If new macbooks don't have regular USB-A ports anymore, why the hell do the new iPhones still ship with USB-A?

Can't wrap my head around the fact that you can't connect apple latest devices together without an additional adapter.

(Rant?) iOS 11 , 24 hours later... what do you think?

    Posted: 21 Sep 2017 05:45 AM PDT

Ok so let's hear it. Most of us had iOS 11 for about 24 hours now or so...

    Observations:

    • Like the fact that new music / podcast no longer takes the entire lock screen

And now , a long list of things that I DO NOT like:

    • When I swipe down I DO NOT want to see the time. Heck more than once I swiped down and I thought I locked the screen. I swipe down to check and deal with messages. Not to check the time. This is especally infutrating when you're dealing with a lot of messages and that TIME takes 1/3 of already limited screen real estate.

    • Clear all little X is BELOW most recent notification. On the ocasion I 3d touched it thinking that this will clear only notifications BELOW most recent notification. Nope it clears everything.

    • Listen apple, iMessage. I know I'm in I message app I realy really DO NOT need a title there. Seriously. There are things in iMessage that I never liked. Lack of title? I've NEVER heard anyone complaining about lack of title.

    • New control centre. It's "meh" at best. The most frustrating part is that I fast forwarded my podcast when I really wanted to just pause it more times that I'm willing to admit. Happens way to often. Now I feel Like I have to AIM at pause just to pause. Irritating.

    • Scrolling up and down to adjust the volume in a little "pill" is not natural to me. It works but it feels wierd. I liked old volume adjust better.

    • Now let's talk about those app icons in iMessage. What exactly is that for? Initially I thought that this is for easy sharing. Well, with Reddit all I get is reddit stickers from official Reddit app. Huh? I never had a desire to use these. Any way to share reddit story using this? Could not find it. But hold on, I have sport score app that should do the trick right? Ok, so I open a score app and I wanted to share the score. One would think that now I can simply hope to iMessage to share the story... well , no... all I get is list of ALL articles. Maybe this is somehow usefull... don't see how thou... unless I want to share weather forecast with someone? But this is stupid... the only way to share weather forecast is with user who has data... and I don't know ANYONE who doesn't have weather app. How about my location? Maybe that's usefull too but so far a quick txt "I'm here" always did a trick. Never had a need to share EXACT location on the map. In matter of fact if I tried I'd probably get "where is this exactly" and than me via TXT "that's next to XX coffee shop"... so there, I had to use TXT anyways... might as well type right away "i'm next to XX shop". This worked for as longer as I can remember so location sharing is kinda pointless to me. In other words: I can't easily share WHAT I WANT to share with these new icons. But I can easily share things THAT MAKE NO SENSE to share the way it works.

    • New App store: Why o why did they change it? Old app store was always a place for me to either : a) quickly get the app that I want ... or b) check top charts to see if half of this planet is still spending money on Minecraft keeping it firmly at the no 1 spot... But this new design? It feels like they took true usefulness out of it. Everything feels wierd in new App Store... maybe it's just a question of time to get used to it? And that gets me to argumented reality... first I saw this in pokemon so I know just how sucky does this work... but now this is taken to entire new level... ok let me see, I can now point to my desk that will show a little ball that tells me the weather? (Carrot weather AR update). Come on... but those of us that have no interest in AR are stuck looking at AR recommendations... really Apple? And what in a world happened to old fashioned "top seller" list? Now I gotta swipe RIGHT to see it? Really?

    • Siri feels dumber than before. Tried it, disabled it. Nothing to see here.

    • I want my 3D touch to quickly switch apps back. Jesus I must have tried it about 20 times (forgetting that it's MIA now) in a last day or so...

    • iPad gets nice app switching from control centre. Why can't we have it on iPhone? Swipe up than swipe left or right for app switching?

And list of small irritating things goes on an on...

All in all this update feels like they updated for the sake of updating. I don't see iOS 11 as any more functional or useful than it was before. I'm struck with overwhelming feeling that they tried to fix a whole slew of things that really didn't need fixing to begin with... and yet, the things that are REALLY broken (like messaging system) is untouched...

I'm not gonna downgrade. I can live with iOS 11. But boy o boy in more ways than one it feels like a step backwards. If I new what I know now I would skip this upgrade. It kinda feels like iPhone 8 - I'm sure it's somehow better but I don't see ANYTHING there that makes me want to upgrade.

How about you? Now that you had it for a while... like it? Dislike it? What do we think overall?

Craig Federighi Says 3D Touch App Switcher Gesture Will Return in Future Update to iOS 11

    Posted: 21 Sep 2017 10:04 AM PDT

    Good news!

I've never used this function much, but i've seen many users complain about it missing from iOS11. Hope they add it back soon.

Removal of 3D Touch app switcher from iOS11

Anyone know why this feature was removed? I used it all the time and I'm still grieving its loss. Help me find closure? Or even better, a workaround?

3D touch lag on home screen (7+ 128GB)

    Posted: 21 Sep 2017 08:44 AM PDT

I've had this issue since the first iOS 11 beta I installed. Rolled back to iOS 10 and now just updated to iOS 11 again and there's still an annoying lag when force touching apps on the home screen.

Anybody else experiencing this? Does a factory reset help? It didn't on the beta but it might do on the GM.

In iOS11, i’m missing some features in People’s Album

    Posted: 21 Sep 2017 08:38 AM PDT

For example, the "Hidden People" section has gone, and the Plus button to add unrecognized faces too.. Is there a workaround?

So iOS 11 control center toggles for wifi and bluetooth don't actually work, they can't fully disable either one. This is a new "feature" and here is an explanation. I find this absolutely bizarre ... thoughts?

No more haptic thump when pulling down notification shade or when opening control panel.

    Posted: 20 Sep 2017 06:19 PM PDT

So as the title indicates when you pull down notifications it used to make a nice little thud and it's gone in iOS 11. Same when pulling down control center. I used to like that feature. It just felt nice. I miss it. 😕😑😒
