| Posted: 21 Sep 2017 07:27 PM PDT I sent in my laptop for repairs and when it came back, they repaired much more than they predicted. I didn't mind because they ended up charging me a very cheap price for all the work that they did. However, I'm pretty sure the reason why they repaired so much was because they actually broke the system during repairs. In particular, they replaced all of the logic because of a "kernel freeze." What is this, and is it noticeable to a normal user? Would the laptop have functioned if this happened on my watch? I ask because the laptop is undoubtedly in worse condition now than it was before. There is severe audio clipping, it can't connect to networks properly, and things are running much slower than they used to. The laptop also gets hotter much, much quicker and the fan is constantly going as hard as it can. [link] [comments]  |

| Where did my storage space go?? (Macbook air) Posted: 21 Sep 2017 05:53 PM PDT My macbook air has 120gb of storage space. I recently have been getting bombarded with messages telling me my storage space is almost full. However, I go to try and free up space, and 106gb of storage is under "system" which I cannot do anything about. It seems crazy that I only have 14gb of storage to use... I'm pretty sure I used to have much more space than that. Is this some sort of error/bug? How do I free up more space? Thank you. [link] [comments]  |

I load into a website with no videos and my music pauses after every new page I click. | Cooked my iPad mini, will it explode? Posted: 21 Sep 2017 01:48 PM PDT Made a big ole dumb mistake last night. Was charging iPad mini and had it on top of toaster oven. Made mental note to remove before roasting garlic later that evening. Lost that mental note. Roasted garlic for 30 minutes 375º, all while the iPad was on top of it. When I realized it, it was too hot to touch with my bare hands and the temp warning was up. I moved it to a cooler location to let the heat die down. It since has seemingly been operating fine. My question is : does anyone have any idea if I compromised the battery in a way that could be potentially dangerous down the line? Is there a way to test this? Is my best bet to replace the battery regardless? Any information greatly appreciated! [link] [comments]  |
| Macbook air problems spinning wheel and whatnot Posted: 21 Sep 2017 08:21 PM PDT I have an 11-inch early 2014 MacBook Air that I love and cherish, but it's been giving me some problems recently. In the past, the logicboard and power cord for it were giving me problems under warranty and I got them replaced. Recently I've been experiencing some problems doing simple tasks on the computer. Sometimes the wheel will spin when trying to load something in safari and then I'll shut it down and it gets stuck in a reboot loop and I have to reinstall the OS from the recovery drive. One thing it has trouble with is typing in the username and password on reddit for some reason. The characters eventually fill in, but a minute or so after I even type them. Even today I had about six or seven tabs in safari and messages open and the computer started to heat up and the fan came on while I was using just these two applications I have also noticed a few times that the backlight on the keyboard will go out for a moment or two. Not something I really notice often though. Anyone have any similar problems or ideas of solutions for these problems? I really don't want to say goodbye to this computer anytime soon. Basically, i have an older iPad that i mainly use to read. Today i ran out of space and to my surprise i had over a gigabyte of messages saved. The latest is from may 2016. I can see the messages and names from people and I really want to open up the message thread I had with my best friend who passed away a year ago next month. I have so much hope to be able to access them, please can someone help me figure this out, there has to be a way, i just at least want to believe. the iPad has iOS 9.3.5 but i don't see what version of the iPad it is, it is not a newer one though, there is a lot of numbers when i go to general info and i can write them out if any will help [link] [comments]  |

My issue is that the screen will randomly stop responding to touch so it's effectively frozen. Only physical buttons like volume up will work. How long until the hardware becomes unable to effectively run those updates? How long does it usually take for that hardware to become obsolete? I'm looking to buy a new iPhone and would like to get the 6s, but I'm also hoping it'll last for a long time. My 5s that I bought upon release has lasted for 3 years and is starting to get dysfunctional. Based on that, I'm hoping for 3-4 years out the 6s. Since it came out two years ago should I be worried that a 6s won't last much longer than 2 years or so? Or does the fact that Apple is still making them new mean they should be around for a while? | Bent case for 2016 MacBook Pro Touchbar repair estimate Posted: 21 Sep 2017 06:58 PM PDT I was walking down the stairs with my mbp in my backpack when I slipped and all of my weight went onto the mbp. The case is now badly deformed, but everything appears to work, the screen is not deformed, only the bottom case. Assuming none of the components are broken and merely the bottom case needs to be replaced, what's a ballpark estimate on how much this is going to cost me? I'm currently out of town and won't be able to visit an apple store soon. I'm just wondering if this is a ~$200, ~$500, or ~$1000 repair. | Macbook Air acting up(No sound, fans cranked to full speed at idle, and general lag) Posted: 21 Sep 2017 06:25 PM PDT I have a really weird problem with my Macbook. Out of nowhere (I haven't installed any questionable software recently or ever) three strange afflictions have befallen my Macbook. All three occurred at the same time. I shut down my computer, went to my next class, and 5 minutes later I turned it back on only to hear my fans cranked to full speed. The computer was not hot so I installed MacsFanControl and it reported CPU temps at a chilly 38 degrees Celsius. I also noticed a general lag. Letters that were typed were slow to appear and hitting command + space to open spotlight now had a significant delay. All the while activity monitor reports no heavy CPU usage or heavy RAM usage. I then noticed the sound wasn't work and went to check system prefs and found no audio devices in output or input and that applies to my working earbuds too. You wanna know the real kicker? All of these problems are also founds on my Windows bootcamp partition. No audio, fans cranked to max on boot, and a general lag. I'm turning my computer into the faculty at my school (yeah it's school issued) tomorrow, but it will be real interesting to see if them re imaging it will solve anything or if it's a hardware problem. I'm not so much looking into fixing this as I am interested in what the hell is going on. So if anybody has answers that's great and don't worry about the bootcamp partition. I'm removing it before I hand it in I'm not stupid. Also please don't give me a spiel about not fiddling with a school computer. I live to fiddle with computers. [link] [comments]  |
| airpods not syncing over iCloud Posted: 21 Sep 2017 05:50 PM PDT My Airpods connect seamlessly with my iPhone 7 but every time I want to connect them to my rMBPro 2016 I have to connect manually by pressing the case button and all that. Something must be wrong. Airpods are supposed to connect through iCloud. Both my computer and my iPhone are logged into my iCloud account. All software is up to date. What is the deal? For the past week, almost every time that I open up my mac, the mouse pad and/or the keyboard won't work. After keeping my mac on the login screen, it'll search for bluetooth devices. If I plug in an external mouse, then I can navigate with the external mouse, but the mosue pad will not work until I restart my computer using shift+control+option+power button. I don't want to go to the apple store for this because I am a student and need the data on my computer. Also, my apple care warrently just expired (just my luck) and I really don't want them to charge me some crazy fee for trying to fix my computer. I just want to know what is going on, and if it is possible to fix by myself, and if it is not, where should I go to get it fixed for the best price? I appreciate any help that I can get! When I first got the apple tv, my phone would connect instantly and there would be no lag. For the last couple days, it's taking up 30 seconds for airplay to connect (sometimes it says unable to connect) and then it lags behind when navigating my phone. [details inside] Posted: 21 Sep 2017 01:39 PM PDT I recently acquired a 1TB SSD (w00t), and have a hard drive caddy for the super drive bay of my Early 2011 MBP. Since you need a super drive and the destination HDD for windows 7 in the primary slot, and since boot camp won't work with two separate hard drives... ...could I install OS X on the 1TB hard drive, shut it down, and swap in the other hard drive, in the same slot for installing windows 7? I want to be able to boot to OSX and Windows 7 from two different hard drive slots on my MBP. It mentioned that itunes is now focusing on music and videos, and if i had previously used itunes to sync ringtones and apps, i had to use the app store (?) ... I'll say that I may have misread it when I clicked through. Maybe it isn't in the app store after all. Because when I went to the app store I didn't see any obvious place to see my ringtones. When I initially receive a notification, the Snapchat icon is replaced with the default app icon like this. However, it looks normal in the notification center.
