Posted: 05 Jun 2022 01:04 PM PDT I find this a bit amusing as users here say that iPhone IPS LCD screens are terrible for color reproduction and doesn't show as many colors as OLED screens. There are a few things that is true so let's get this out of the way first. OLED screens have much higher contrast values and that itself makes the colors pop compared to the standard IPS LCD screens. OLEDs have superior blacks and whites compared to LCDs. OLEDs can also save battery life if you have content displayed in pure black, as the pixels are actually turned off. While these are pretty much facts, there seems to be one major thing users have forgotten about most iPhone/iPad and MacBook Air/Pro screens that were made in 2016 or later. Starting from 2016 and onward, all iPhones starting from the iPhone 7 and later with IPS LCD screens have support for Display P3 color space, also known as DCI-P3. Starting with the iPad Pro 9.7 (2016 and later), all iPads with IPS LCD screens have also support for DCI-P3. With MacBook Pro and MacBook models from 2016 and later (with the exception of the MacBook Air from 2017/2018) all have support for DCI-P3. That means that your iPhone SE 2020/2022 or iPhone 11, or your iPad Pro from 2017 can all display DCI-P3 content. Colors that are vastly superior from the older sRGB standard that all iPhone/iPad and MacBook displays used to have prior to 2016. It is actually an improvement and one of the best IPS LCD screens compared to ANY Android phones that even makes LCD screens lol. If you are watching a show/movie on Netflix or YouTube that has DCI-P3 content, congrats! You are actually seeing even more possible wide range of colors compared to some standard IPS LCD screen from 2015 or before. Fun fact though. Some Android devices with OLED screens may not even support DCI-P3 which IMO, is quite pathetic and a waste of OLED technology if it can't even display a wider color range. The best way you can find out if your screen, monitor or whatever device supports DCI-P3 is using this website that shows you exactly what colors show on your screen. [link] [comments] | ||
Posted: 05 Jun 2022 08:09 AM PDT So I've heard people talk about wanting Apple Pencil support on the iPhone. I understand that on an iPad, people draw and write with it. I am curious what it would be useful for on the iPhone. It seems like the screens are too small for drawing and writing unless it's a small drawing or only a small bit of writing.
