Solved IOS 15.5 slow loading Safari and also battery drain

    Posted: 03 Jun 2022 05:37 AM PDT

iPhone 13 pro. So after latest IOS update to 15.5 the loading of sites in safari has been so slow and sometimes times out. No issue with Chrome. Also my battery seemed to drain twice to three times as fast (in general, not specifically related to safari).

After some research seems there is an issue with having on both private relay and limit IP address tracking. Something to do with where traffic goes and some congestion or technology snafus. Not sure. But fix is to turn off both limit ip address tracking (found under cellular and then cellular data options) and also turn off private relay found under ICloud. Obviously I would prefer to leave these on for privacy but not at expense of these issues.

Two days and safari back to normal and battery seems way better too. The fix I read about was for slow safari loading (not battery performance) but it seems to have helped/fixed both. Just an FYI.

Asurion is horrible - avoid at all costs

    Posted: 03 Jun 2022 07:08 AM PDT

Asurion has horrible service in my opinion. I would suggest getting your iphone insurance thru Apple or some other means. Asurion is not responsive to mistakes that they have made and it's a huge headache to get things approved and thru their system. I have made over a dozen phone calls and submitted documents three times and it has been over a week and still no phone replacement. I am really disappointed and think it's a huge waste of money and time to use them. I would rather pay more for insurance thru other means than use Asurion.

I hope iOS 16 brings a redesign of the Notification Center

    Posted: 02 Jun 2022 05:41 PM PDT

I'd love to see a reintroduction of a proper Notification Center "shade," like one from iOS 7- iOS 10. Ever since iOS 11 introduced the "lock screen wallpaper as your Notification Center" I've hated it. I hate the design and I hate the concept. I'd also like to see the Notification Center and control center merge together. It would feel more streamlined. I also hate how in the Notification Center some apps have their app name in bold text as part of the Notification, where as some apps have the bold text act as a subject line that is related to the content of the notification. It just feels really inconsistent.

Got totally screwed over by an Apple store employee. What should I do now?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2022 05:04 PM PDT

I went to trade in my iPhone 11 Pro. I got a $800 credit ($300 from Apple and $500 form Verizon).

I tried to decide between 13 pro and mini. The Apple store employee convinced me that the pro was way better. I said it might be too big but he said just try it out for two weeks and if I wasn't happy I could return it for the mini.

So I went with the 13 pro, and now I am not happy with the size want to go with the mini, but find out I actually can't return the phone because I got it as a trade in special from Verizon, I guess I'm stuck with the pro. But I really want the mini.

Should I go back and demand to talk to the manager? I got totally screwed and was gonna get the mini until the employee convinced me to go with the pro.

Is there a way to control my iPhone X on my Macbook?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2022 03:55 PM PDT

My digitizer is messed up in my phone and won't register touch in the middle of the screen. There's a slider I need to hold and slide to the right but I can't do it on the touch screen. Is there a way I can connect my phone to my Macbook and control my iPhone using my Macbook trackpad? I tried Switch Control but it didn't mirror my iPhone screen...

Any other long time iPhone users getting a bit bored with it?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2022 10:11 PM PDT

My first iPhone was iPhone 3G however long ago that was. Currently on iPhone 11 and due to upgrade this September but I'm kinda having second thoughts about it all.

It's a tool that does what it does very well without fault but it all feels kinda stale or boring. I'd get a new phone in September and think, this is basically the same as any other iPhone I've had, the software will look the same, it will run basically the same, we've come so far there is so little room for innovation these days. I'm thinking switching to android would at least feel fresh and new.

    iPhone 14 Pro 48mp sensor?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2022 09:35 AM PDT

Want to know your thoughts about this rumored new 48mp sensor on iPhone 14 Pro.

I don't know why but i think Apple will make something like 48mp only for raw photos, and the jpegs will still be 12 mp or something similar as seen on other companies.

Or 8k video with a super cropped image thats almost useless.

I dont think it will be a completely revamp from what iphone 13 pro offers thats worth upgrading.

    post-upgrade musing.

    Posted: 02 Jun 2022 03:26 PM PDT

so i recently upgraded from my old Xr to a 12. (i'll get a 13 pro eventually.) and i can't help but notice, despite the screens on the Xr and the 12 being literally the exact same size, for some reason, apple has decided to gimp landscape mode options on the 12 compared to the Xr. i love apple for the most part but i genuinely don't understand why they make these arbitrary decisions as to how i can view the UI on different devices, particularly when the device has the exact same screen proportions and is running the exact same version of iOS. two things i've noticed so far - no landscape mode for browsing "settings" (this was available on the XR and makes sifting through various settings SO much nicer), and landscape mode in mail on the 12 is no longer segmented with various UI elements folding out from the left side of the screen only (mailboxes etc) but rather every panel just fills the whole screen, even in landscape mode, making me wonder what's the point.

anyway... i'm fine with the upgrade otherwise. the 12 is a beautiful phone. it's just really weird when apple does this shit and arbitrarily decides "well this device can have landscape mode here and here but this one can't for reasons".... i *sorta* get it between the max and the regular size iPhones (though i still wish the option was there across the board) but for the Xr and the 12 to have these disparities, the designer in me is just going "ok... why?"

🤷‍♂️ anyway thanks for coming to my dissertation about a feature probably 95% of users don't care about. heh.
