cannot update numbers and pages? Posted: 01 May 2022 06:18 AM PDT i have been running catalina, and recently installed catalina on a 2nd new bootable SSD (so i have 2 bootable drives now). in the 2nd drive, i installed numbers and pages through the "already purchased" section from the appstore, which of course installs the latest compatible version (11.1 for both pages & numbers). after install i see that the apps are different from the apps on my 1st drive. i check and indeed in the 1st ssd, i have pages 8.1 & numbers 6.1 in the appstore however i cannot see the options to update anything. when i search for them, as well as under the "purchased" section, i can only open the apps directly, and under updates it just says "no updates available". how do i update both to 11.1? Posted: 01 May 2022 06:17 AM PDT Hi, I upgraded my mac from Mojave to Monterey. It's broken, which may be fixed by a re-install, but I also hate the terribly designed finder windows. If I download Catalina, will everything be erased? Do I have to back-up? I see a lot of info online about everything being reset when downgrading. [link] [comments]

Permanent Finder favourites in sidebar Posted: 01 May 2022 05:23 AM PDT Hi, I store essentially all my files on Google Drive (streamed). Occasionally the virtual drive may go offline for at short period (eg. if no internet connection is present, or the app has a slow start). Whenever that happens, Finder will remove all favourites in the sidebar that are within Google Drive. I guess it's a feature to avoid a heap of favourites pointing to deleted directories for non-techy users. Is there any way I can keep Finder from removing favourites pointing to non-existent paths? It's a bit annoying having to recreate all favourites every week or so. [link] [comments]

How do I install the OS I want when I do factory reset to my macbook pro? Posted: 01 May 2022 04:14 AM PDT Hi, I have a macbook pro early 2012 version and ı want to do a format (factory reset). When I re-install the os, which one does it install? I don't to install the latest os like Monterrey or Big Sur because they might be too taxing on my macbook since it is old. So I want to install Catalina. The currently installed os is catalina, before the reset. So how do I choose which os to install or how to custom install it? Thank you [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 May 2022 04:03 AM PDT Hello, I am thinking about installing yabai, particular the scripts that requires (partially) disabling SIP. Right now I am uncertain about if this effort is justified as I don't need the functionality of a tiling window manager. From my Linux times a played around with i3 and AwesomeWM and figured out that tiling window managers do not match my style of workflow. But why do I think about yabai? My workflow relies heavily upon switching spaces. I do that countless times. My browser is always on space 1 and my terminal (where my actual work happens) is always on space 2. You can gues how often I need to switch between those. Apparently, there is a strange behaviour while switching spaces with the "move left|right a space" command. Here is a good article describing the problem. Note that you cannot solve this issue with disabling animation. Switching via invoking mission control is also no option for me as this would require more key strokes. Also switching spaces spaces by selecting the app that is on that space does not match my workflow. Let me describe a very common issue with this lag: When I am working in my terminal and switch back to my space with my browser and immediately hit cmd-tab when my browser is visible for me, a new tab in my terminal emulator is opened instaed a new tab in my browser. That means that I always have to wait a second after switching spaces before I can interact with my applications. Also keep in my that my workflow is heavily keyboard centric and is part of my muscle memories. So my fingers do not expect such "waiting" after switching spaces. Now to my actual question: Could yabai solve this issue with its yabai -m space --focus prev command? Can yabai switch focus on spaces instantly without any input lags? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Google Chrome keeps defaulting to Yahoo plus Other Issues Posted: 30 Apr 2022 08:07 PM PDT Halp! I'm on a Macbook Air (originally 2015, bought refurbished in 2020) operating on Sierra 10.12.6. I've had Google Chrome set as default browser but lately, it's been popping up as Yahoo. I keep switching the default setting back but no luck. I've also recently had a Safari window that is stuck on one particular URL page. Page not clickable anywhere, not even to X out. It's been floating in the corner. Someone suggested I need to back up all data, install OS Monterrey, and then run malware removal in Safe Mode to get rid of any bugs that got in through the browser. Any thoughts? Huge thank you!!! Upgrading to Apple Silicon: Any point in keeping old backups? Posted: 01 May 2022 03:14 AM PDT Tl;dr: Title I have an iMac running 10.15 Catalina with Time Machine backups going back to 10.12 Sierra. I'm planning to get an M2 Mac Mini on release which literally won't boot into Catalina. I run my iMac from an external SSD but will setup the Mac Mini as new from its internal SSD. I'm thinking I'll nuke all the old backups, take a final backup on 10.15, then update it to Monterey and just leave it or is even that overkill? I have work files, photos and other media backed up on other drives anyway should anything go horribly wrong. Cheers. [link] [comments]

EPub in Apple Books on MacOS is very slow but is not slow in iOS Posted: 30 Apr 2022 04:54 PM PDT I recently purchased the Chicago Guide to Grammar, Usage, and Punctuation EPUB from the Apple Books storefront. The book works fine on my iPhone, but when I open and read it on my MacBook Pro 13" 2019 running macOS Monterey 12.1, there is a 4 second lag to do anything—turn pages, select text scroll, etc.. I do not encounter this issue with any other EPUB file. Does anyone have an idea about how I might be able to fix this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Apr 2022 03:19 PM PDT I added a few playlists to my Music app, and now my recently added list is full with all those songs. It would make a lot more sense if the playlist itself was shown instead. [link] [comments]
Anyone experiencing force touch on trackpad for look up sometimes not working? Posted: 30 Apr 2022 10:43 PM PDT Sometimes it doesn't working only in safari, restarting safari usually resolves the problem. But sometimes it is system-wide and it gets pretty annoying. I tried switching to three-fingers and it works but switching back to force touch doesn't fix it. Sorry for my english. [link] [comments]
Dyld error message, can someone help me? Posted: 30 Apr 2022 02:44 PM PDT Hello! I have a macbook pro from 2010, with macOS 10.13 running on it. It still works well, but a few days ago, an error started appearing whenever I open the Remarkable desktop app. More precisely, after uninstalling and reinstalling it, I can open the app. But as soon as I connect to my account (via a one-time code that I got on the Remarkable website), the app closes down. In the crash file, I find the following (if necessary, I can copy down the whole crash file): This is the error message: I don't remember having changed anything in my computer settings. I have no idea what I need to do to make it work again. Can someone help me? Thanks! [link] [comments]
