- I took my out of warranty Iphone XS Max to a 3rd Party Repair Shop for a replacement screen. When I received the phone back it was wiped to the point you need to enter your Apple Credentials to setup again. How was it possible to wipe the phone without having the passcode?

| Posted: 06 May 2022 01:30 PM PDT Hey guys, Bit more information. I took my Iphone XS Max for repair. The screen had totally gone. Not damaged but just totally dead. The screen was replaced fine and when I went into the store the repair guy told me I needed to quickly set the phone back up to see if it's ok. The phone had been wiped up to the point where you setup fresh and have to login your current Apple ID Password. The part where the email is partly censored out. My question is, you can't get to the Erase Iphone Section without knowing the passcode to unlock. Also even if you did it would then ask you again for the passcode and Icloud Login information to erase the Iphone. How was the guy able to reset the phone like this? [link] [comments] |

| The parental controsl passcode... Posted: 07 May 2022 04:58 AM PDT So, we've got an old ipad that's been laying around for a while and we want to give to our child. Problem is we can't set up parental controls. I do now my way around computers (software developer) but not an Apple customer (no iPhone/iPaad/Macbook/etc, just Linux stuff and the occasional Windows for work). Point is, I'm out of the loop on how Apple stuff works, but very tech-savvy. Initially I posted this on Apple discussions forum but all I got was a "have you tried turning it off and on again?" response, so back to reddit it is... The problem is that I'm trying to turn on parental controls and even went as far as to read the instructions but the iPad won't pick up the settings I entered when activating the feature. It ignores the time-range/duration/even-passcode(!) I entered and all I can do is use the Apple ID login feature to disable the parental controls. Every time I try to activate this the same thing happens. Updating to lates iOS (15.4.1) did not help. YES I HAVE TRIED TURNING IT OFF AND ON AGAIN. Here's what happens: In the end, parental controls turn on BUT:
The ONLY thing I can do is disable the parental controls using the "forgot your passcode" feature, *but even this happens incorrectly*: I am able to remove the controls using my CHILD'S account instead of my wife's (which is what I entered). I'm at a loss. I restarted the process, tried various values for time-range/duration/passcode and used my wife's account EVERY TIME we attempted to turn this on, but always we get these "fixed" settings for time-range/duration, the passcode we entered NOT being recongnised, and we are unable to use my wife's account to turn off the passcode (though we can use my child's account to do it which is in fact something that defeats the purpose of parental controls). Any ideas on what to try to fix this are welcome. I'm thinking of looking into factory resets. All the ipad has is game progress for various games the little one played, but I expect the vast majority will restore progress from iCloud when we reinstall them? Not sure it'll fix the issue though (the parental controls I mean)... [link] [comments] |

Posted: 07 May 2022 04:44 AM PDT Dear Reddit: Someone stole my phone yesterday, since I was at work i couldn't do anything until night time when I was allowed to go home, went to iCloud and activated the "lost iPhone" on find my iPhone, still waiting for 10 hours for them to analyze my case and send me a code to a different number from the stolen one so I can erase my phone, ( they keep asking me for a code send to the stolen iPhone when I try to erase it) my phone has a passcode for the screen, I activated the "lost iPhone" on find my phone but the device was offline this whole time, however I am very concerned, my phone has pics of my passport and files from my taxes. How easily is for them to get through the screen passcode? What should I do in this case? I am so worry about them using my personal information.. thanks for the help [link] [comments] |

I recently decided to give my iPod touch (5th generation) to my sister but I've run into some issues trying to clear it. For a little context in about 2014 I somehow got my friend's apple ID onto my iPod. We were 12 year old kids trying to transfer music from an apple computer and that was the result- I suddenly had this new Apple ID on my device. I can't say more than that because even I don't know how that works. Unfortunately I didn't really care and left it on there but now the apple ID doesn't seem to exist anymore? I knew the password to it but that doesn't work and any attempts to verify it say the person can't be found. This means I can't erase all data on the iPod because they require verification to do so. Also to make things worse I live in a country with no official Apple stores and I can't seem to find any contacts online that I can call from my specific country. Would anybody know what that means and how to continue the process? It connects to the WiFi but doesn't load/continue with the rebooting process. | Will the Studio Display work with a 2013 MacBook Pro and other devices? Posted: 07 May 2022 04:20 AM PDT I am interested in the Studio Display as I am planning on upgrading from a 2013 iMac to the Mac Mini or Mac Studio, so I will need a display for it. I have an older MacBook Pro which I use for some older apps. Will I be able to plug it into the Studio Display? And if so, will I be able to use the standalone mouse and keyboard (that I use with the Mac Mini / Studio), or will I have to use the laptop trackpad and keyboard? And if I can use my standalone keyboard and magic mouse, will it automatically detect these whenever I connect the MacBook to the Studio Display or will I have to manually configure the settings each time I want to use it? And will the Studio Display work with a Windows PC? If so, presumably I will need to buy another cable? And finally, can my old iMac be used as a screen for anything? It then pauses my music and i unpause it then 5 seconds later it keeps making the sound and on and on. Anyone have a fix. they are full battery and i clean them every 2 days. I click my device from the sidebar from finder and chose: I get the following message: "Could not back up the iPhone "My Iphone's name" because the backup was corrupt. | Apple Magic Trackpad 3 + Windows 10: Sometimes not responsive to tap to click on the left side only. Posted: 07 May 2022 12:54 AM PDT So I recently got this Apple Magic Trackpad 3 and I am using it with the Precision trackpad drivers on Windows 10. Majority of the time the "tap to click" function (not "force press" to click) is not responsive just on the left hand side of the Trackpad. In fact I can try to tap it multiple times on the left side and it will never register as a click. On rare occasions tap to click will work on the left side but it not registering is much more common. I tested it further, and when the Trackpad is not responsive on the left side I can single tap on the right side of the Trackpad and it will register a click every time. In fact if I force myself to use the right side of the Trackpad only it works exactly how I expect. This seems like a hardware issue to me. I just wanted to get opinions from others, or hear from anyone else if they have experienced the same issue. I am aware that low temperature can affect the function of touch sensitive surfaces, but right now where I am the temperatures are not unusually cold or hot. [link] [comments] |

Eventually booted up but the touchscreen no longer works. I Booted it recovery mode and updated then factory restored and still no response with touchscreen. | Got my Macbook and iPad Air stolen, now what? Posted: 07 May 2022 12:06 AM PDT So I was in downtown Dallas, Texas for a concert and I was coming from out-of-state, so I brought my backpack with me which contained my laptop and iPad to do some homework and studying... as it's finals week next week. I made a stupid and expensive mistake, when the parking lot I parked in had no cameras and I had left my backpack under the driver's seat. I came back with the window smashed and backpack gone. I made a police report, and fortunately the thief didn't take my AirPods which I sent the location on "Find My" to the police. They recovered my backpack and AirPods which was just down the street but no MacBook or iPad in sight. I've already activated lost mode on both devices and Apple said they can't do anything else other than erase the data on the devices completely. So if I decide to give up on finding them and erase my data, would I lose access on the "Find My" location services as well? If they end up connecting to Wi-Fi somehow, and I get the notification I would like to get it back... but I know this is like one in a million chance of this would only ever happen. It's just a really upsetting situation, my MacBook was pretty old with broken keys from 2016 but it had everything on it and I honestly can't remember if I did back it up or not. My iPad was a gift that I received not even a year ago, and had all my notes from classes on it. With finals, I'm basically fucked unless I buy a new iPad and connect to my iCloud right? I'm not sure how it works, or is all my data saved in the Cloud forever even after erasing the stolen iPad? And is there any sort of software that I can download that would be able to track down stolen electronic devices even when they're offline? I'm never going to make this mistake again, but I would still like to take precautionary measures. And any other advice? Thank you! :') TLDR: Got my MacBook and iPad stolen, I'm not sure how iCloud works or if the location services would still work after erasing data from both devices. My questions are: is there any way to see last location? The computer did have find my enabled so it's strange that it isn't showing any location. I haven't seen the computer in multiple months though so it may have timed out. Can a thief do anything with it? It was signed into my iCloud and I'm not sure if macs have an iCloud lock like iPhones. If a thief ever turned on my computer why did it never show up on my find my? Thanks for any help. It was working just fine a few days ago and I haven't done anything with it besides write on my device.
