Recently got an Apple tv and surprised with the results

    Posted: 02 Mar 2022 06:21 PM PST

I've been buying 4k Blu rays now for about 3 years, i looked down on streaming alot and the last time i watched something via a stream movie or tv show wise was about 4 years ago. Got an Apple tv as a gift. I watched The Mandalorian and was blown away by how good it looked i was expecting much worse.

So i decided to buy a couple of movies on itunes and compare them to the 4k blu ray versions i already had. To be honest, i really struggled to tell the difference, some scenes particularly darker scenes looked slightly better on blu ray, but i did have to pause and look at them for a while. Audio wise they sounded about the same but i do only use headphones though as i would wake up people constantly with a proper system but no doubt there would be a difference with a proper setup.

Also this was on the same TV(OLED), same settings and the TV is professionally calibrated. Using family members streaming services they already pay for anyway, along with the fact i can rent movies through itunes as usually i only watch them once along with the convenience i will save so much money. Also, again i'm not saying 4k blu ray is obsolete far from it, but with my setup and the fact i sit relatively far away, Apple tv has been perfect for me personally.

Flicker in low light scenes only on Apple TV 4K 1st gen

    Posted: 03 Mar 2022 09:53 AM PST

I've read a few posts about people experiencing this problem. Has anyone managed to fix it? I've tried turning off match frame rate and it hasn't helped :/. It's quite distracting, and isn't happening in other sources. I've also tried changing all the settings on the TV with no luck.

How to watch Mad Max Fury Road in 4K Dolby Vision?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2022 09:10 AM PST

Sorry if this a dumb question, but when I search for Mad Max Fury Road, even from within the Apple TV app, the first suggestion is through HBO Max for free but it isn't 4K Dolby Vision. There is an option to rent it from the Apple TV app but it's not showing me what the format is going to be before I rent it. If I google "apple tv mad max fury road" I can see that it is offered in 4K DV. I just want to make sure that if I choose to rent this through the apple tv app that it's going to be 4K DV before I spend money.

    Why I love tv+

    Posted: 02 Mar 2022 03:57 PM PST

When my Hungarian mother-in-law comes to visit us in Denmark, we can watch any show from tv+ with Hungarian subtitles on.

Neither HBO Max, Disney+ or Netflix have more than a few subtitles for each show. Apple is the only one who seemingly thought, "why would we artificially limit which subtitles to offer?"

Strange static/lines on screen? It isn't the HDMI cable or the TV itself, both work fine with other devices. It's a 4k and it wasn't dropped or any thing, running just fine one moment and then the next this showed up.

    I'm having a problem

    Posted: 03 Mar 2022 12:35 PM PST

I rented the movie C'mon C'mon (2021) back when it came out first on Apple TV, the weird thing was I didn't have enough money on my debit card that I have hooked up as my payment method, but somehow I was still able to rent it, I've been out of work for quite a while now and haven't had any money on that card for quite a while, and now I can't update any of my apps or re-download apps that I've had before until I add a payment method because it says my debit card was rejected as a payment method, am I in some sort of debt? how do I fix this? I've tried taking my card off but it says I still have some thing that needs to be paid on that card, do I need to just wait until I start working again and money gets put on my card?

    Netflix

    Posted: 03 Mar 2022 06:19 AM PST

When watching Netflix I have to restart movies to correct poor picture quality all the time. BTW using CAT6 to avoid slow connectivity. Also half the time I have to start the show using the pad plus the play button back and forth to get media to start. So dissatisfied with Apple TV on many levels.

Twitch on Apple TV 4K is very jittery

    Posted: 03 Mar 2022 06:46 AM PST

I have match frame rate on.

I have the video settings set to 1080p SDR 60 FPS just in case Twitch is one of those apps that doesn't match the frame rate automatically.

I am watching a 1080p 60 FPS stream and it looks very jittery and stuttery.

When I try the Twitch app built into my TV, it's buttery smooth.

Something is wrong with the Apple TV 4K Twitch app and I cannot seem to figure it out. Has anyone run into this issue and been able to solve it?

AppleTV 4K and Bose Lifestyle 650

    Posted: 02 Mar 2022 05:24 PM PST

Does anyone have Bose Lifestyle 650 at home that is connected to Apple TV? when the system starts, there is no sound coming out of the speakers. I had to return the Apple TV to home screen, from whatever app it was playing from, and I had to scroll randomly until I hear sounds from the Apple TV. At that point I could return back to the app where I left off and continue watching. If I don't do the above steps, it will just stay muted for some reason. I can't find a solution to this, I have updated the firmware on both devices, checked network connections, I don't know what else I can do.

want to stream March 8 event on Apple TV

    Posted: 02 Mar 2022 03:58 PM PST

The Apple event for March 8 has been announced.
I'd like to stream the event on Apple TV without any mirroring or third party resources.
Can anyone advise me on how to do this?
(I'll use the Youtube app if there's no native Apple TV approach to this.)

Apple TV Sound Output really quiet.

    Posted: 02 Mar 2022 03:12 PM PST

I noticed that my (Apple TV 4K (2.gen) plugged to my Samsung TV with normal TV speakers) is outputting sound extremely quiet for some weeks now. I confirmed this while noticing that my volume numbers have to be way higher than before to hear talking in shows. I compared shows that we heard before this happened and found it that they became way more quiet. We (my and my gf) had to turn up the volume number from usually around 20-25 to at least 60 and above.

Is this something that happened to you or a bug from a recent update?

    EDIT:

I already turned off reduce loud sounds. No difference.

I already tried changing the Audio quality setting from Auto in the Apple TV settings but no difference.

    Purchased content: simultaneous stream limit

    Posted: 02 Mar 2022 12:54 PM PST

TL:DR maximum simultaneous device stream limit I reached for purchased content (Movies/ TV shows) is 3 devices. Curious how to circumvent this for local streaming to multiple devices at 3 different locations.

I've recently started consolidating my endless streaming subscriptions and bluray collection under iTunes Movie/ TV purchases (including some ports). After reading into Vudu/ MA/ iTunes/ GP etc., this seemed like the best solution for me, My plan was to ultimately buy multiple Apple TV's to serve said purchased content to the TV's in the family house, shore house etc., with a possible max of 10-15 Apple TV's.

Obviously there are cheaper streaming devices/ platforms available (FireTV, Roku), and other solutions for locally streaming DRM-free content (NAS/ media server), but I wanted a one and done low tech long-term solution. Also I'm the only Android/ Windows holdout.

Apple support reiterated the 5/10 authorized device limit* (5 of which can be computers), and alleged a 2 multiple stream device limit for purchased content. Experimenting with 2 Roku TV's (running the Apple TV app), an iPad, 2 authorized laptops and a 3rd using family sharing to my account, I was able to simultaneously stream to 3 devices at once before hitting a "too many streams" limit.

Is anyone running a platform solely based on iTunes purchased content? If so, were you able to circumvent this 3 device limit if you have a large family who are likely to play content at the same time?

Open to other solutions of course. I don't know much about Mac/ Apple OS and local streaming, but could 3 (authorized) mac minis for example at different locations, locally stream to multiple devices? And if so, what would the multiple stream limit be then?

\using a PC, the 2 (authorized laptops seem to count to a 2/5 stated authorization limit. I have no idea how iPads/ iPhones or devices using the Apple TV app count - can anyone clarify?))

    Audio question

    Posted: 02 Mar 2022 10:53 AM PST

Hi all just a quick question. So I have the newest Apple TV 4K plugged into my tcl r646 & that's connected to my Vizio sound bar via earc. I've come to find out that the TCL doesn't support LPCM pass through which is the audio format that Apple TV uses. In this set up it outputs Dolby digital & Dolby atmos. My question is should I change this by plugging my Apple TV into my sound bar so that I would get LPCM & atmos?

Initial thoughts after viewing the trailer anyone? I'll watch Gary Oldman in anything, so even if the trailer had sucked, I'd have been in for at least the pilot episode. But I thought it looked good and intriguing.

Can I add my own movies to Apple TV?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2022 10:31 PM PST

I put some of my DVD's on iTunes through the home movie thing then edit them so they are in with all my purchased movies in iTunes but they don't show up on Apple TV on my PlayStation for example.

Is there a way to get them to show up there?

    Apple TV and Bluetooth

    Posted: 02 Mar 2022 06:07 AM PST

    Is this a true statement?

Is there any loss in audio/ video quality if I plug an Apple TV directly into the hdmi port of my BenQ HT2050A projector? I activate Bluetooth on Apple TV and get audio from the soundbar.

Yes. Bluetooth is not designed as a lossless format to work with video having zero lipsync. It was designed so your phone can communicate with a headset easily with very little power. It can handle stereo audio, not surround sound, and it can't handle high bitrate formats or newer formats such as Atmos.
