- My fiancés computer broke the other day. First the bottom half of the screen was pixelated like it was cracked in a spot, it still worked but not it’s not coming on at all, maybe for a second then goes off. It’s only about 3 months old. Should I replace the screen ?

| Posted: 28 Feb 2022 11:45 PM PST Y'all! So my MacBook is always overheating for no reasons whatsoever. I'll be sitting at my desk watching lectures and taking notes when next thing I know it slows right down and starts to get hot and blow air out. I have deleted as much unnecessary stuff from the Mac as I possibly could and I now only save documents/photos etc to external hard drives but it's still overheating. I've tried cleaning the fan with an air canister and brush, I don't sit on my bed whilst using it It has plenty of ventilation! I'm baffled at why this fairly new laptop would be doing this 😬 please help [link] [comments] |

| iPhone 11 won’t work on metro. Have I been scammed? Posted: 28 Feb 2022 11:31 PM PST I had an iPhone 8 and recently just bought an iPhone 11. Both phones are unlocked, so that's not the problem. Now I know that the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 11 use the same SIM card type (mini-sim), but for some reason, it won't work for the 11 on the 11. It says unlocked and sees that the sun is with metro, but it says "phone not allowed." I've tried resetting the network, I've tried turning the phone off and on, and I tried putting in and taking out the sim. Was I scammed? Or is apple/metro being money-hungry again? Should I go up there and see if they can transfer my phone over? [link] [comments] |
| Macbook Pro (2017) Screen Randomly Not Working Posted: 28 Feb 2022 11:05 PM PST Hi there, I was wondering if anyone had any advice for my situation. I've had my Macbook Pro (2017) for pretty much exactly 3 years now and my applecare has recently run out. A couple of nights ago I was using my laptop and I wanted to turn up my volume but accidentally pressed the power button. Immediately after hitting the button the screen wouldn't turn on. The keyboard was lit up and I could hear sound but nothing from the screen. I've tried everything online and nothing made it turn on. The next day I opened it and the screen was working again and the laptop was functional as normal but when I closed the laptop again the screen wouldn't come on again. I took it to apple today and the technician said he found no hardware issues but said I should send it in for a screen replacement which would cost around $800 and take 10-14 days. I decided not to send it in hoping that it would be functional every now again because I have uni assignments due that I need it for within the week and because I can barely afford the service. Since bringing it home from the store, I've found that the technician has actually made it worse and now when the screen does come on its dull to the point where i cant use it. I don't have a monitor I can connect the laptop to to get the data off of it. Is it worth submitting a complaint via Apples feedback page or does anyone have any other advice? For $2000 I would expect the laptop to last much longer than it has and to not stop working when I press one button. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
| 2017 Macbook Air extremely slow Posted: 28 Feb 2022 10:41 PM PST Hi all My wife's Macbook air started running into issues last week Friday after working perfectly fine on Thursday. The laptop became extremely slow to boot (It has a 240GB SSD) and then would take about 10 minutes to open any application. I The OS was Monterey latest version as I managed to run the update. The laptop would also shut down any time I plugged the charger in, this model has the magnetic charger which I believe they discontinued from the 2018 version and newer. I would have to charge the laptop while it was shut off and then unplug the charger to be able to use the laptop. I initially tried to reset the power settings by holding down Cmd + Option + Shift + Power button for 3 seconds but this did nothing. The laptop then got to a point where it would only start booting up if I held down the power button, I couldn't just press it. If I held down the power button and the boot up sound played but I released the power button too early, it would not boot and I'd have to hold down the power button again until the boot up sound finished I then ran disk utility to check for any errors on the SSD however no issues popped up. A colleague of mine mentioned that the proprietary disks won't show up with issues through disk utlility. From there I booted into disk utility so I could erase the disk and then I reinstalled the OS to try rule out my virus theory. Once done the issues still persisted and laptop is pretty much unusable. I'm not worried about the data on the laptop as I kept it backed up I do believe it is a failed SSD but I want to make 100% this is the issue first before dropping $200-$300 on a new one [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Feb 2022 05:32 PM PST When I try to play old videos in my camera roll I get the far too familiar «Couldn't load higher quality video» prompt. From what I've found this just means that the video is in my iCloud. When I log in to my iCloud, however, the video is nowhere to be found. I've also tried connecting my phone to my pc and tried importing it via usb, but the videos simply doesn't appear in the phone's files on my pc. I now have about 200 files (images and videos) that are unplayable in my camera roll, nowhere to be found on iCloud, and non-existent when I connect my phone to my computer. Anyone have a fix for this, or are those images/videos simply gone? [link] [comments] |

Battery when in use is pretty steady but when I take stop using it, it decreases largely. Checked settings and no apps are reducing significant battery like the phone reports. | Posted: 28 Feb 2022 08:00 PM PST Context: mom died in 2015 and my siste inherited her iPhone 7 (it's now running 14.7.1). Our dad asked the phone store ppl to transfer my sister's data to the phone, but it seems that they did so without checking the Apple IDs first, thus overlaying my sister's data with our mom's. This evening, I was helping my sister with something else in settings, and I realized that though her contact photo was her own, the name and email was still our mom's. I suggested that she try changing the name and email, but it wouldn't accept the changes. When she gave up and later went into her messages, she found that her conversation threads were messed up and her contacts as well. She says there doesn't seem to be any pattern to whose contacts were changed, and she's not sure whether anyone is gone entirely or if it's just their names gone from phone numbers. I've noticed in the past that sometimes I would text my sister but she would only get my message on her laptop, and other times my messages would arrive just fine. And her friend noticed that sometimes she'll receive phone calls from my sister that say only her [correct] email address, and sometimes they'll show her proper contact. I also noticed that when she shared her location with me while she went on a date, the name & photo were our mom's. She got a new MacBook a couple weeks ago, and I helped her set it up properly, and it seems that now messages go through no matter what, and now her photo and name on her location is her own as well. But I'm stumped on the double account thing. I don't want to try family sharing bc I don't want to merge them or have them coexist. I'd like her to have everything she needs on just her own account. She's kind of hapless when it comes to technology, and I want things simplified for her and fewer opportunities for mistakes. I'm in another US state from her — need pats for the amount of patience it takes to talk her through this, lol. This is what I've been able to glean from 300 miles away: iCloud: mom App Store: sister Contacts: both Messages: somehow both?? No idea about photos or notes. She thinks, but isn't certain, that she knows the account password for our mom's iCloud account. Tomorrow I'm going to have her do a full backup to the new laptop. But then what??? I'm usually quite good with figuring out her tech messes but this is beyond me and I'm worried about losing her data. And I frankly don't trust someone in a store to fix this. Thanks! I tried to redownload in App Store but it just says "open." I'm still getting notifications for it but when I go to storage in settings the app doesn't show up at all. | Would love some input from other 2021 16-inch MBP owners Posted: 28 Feb 2022 06:57 PM PST I just got my 16-inch MacBook Pro back from an AppleCare repair and was hoping to compare some benchmarks from other redditors that own the same model. After replacing the logic board for liquid damage, I'm noticing that my processor load averages higher than my M1 iMac and MacBook Air. I'm using the 10 core, 16 core GPU model and seeing my CPU usage average between 27% and 34%. Running Monterey 12.01. There are a few background iCloud processes that could be contributing to this but I'm genuinely worried that this could mean that the logic board wasn't actually replaced. Another thing worth noting is that, after I liquid damaged my MBP, I ran a performance monitor and noticed that the first two cores were running at 100% use at idle. Now that I've gotten the computer back I'm seeing basically the same performance, though they dip to 90-95% at times. Would anybody with the same model be willing to download Usage from the App Store and share your CPU usage stats? It's free. Thanks in advance to anybody who reads this! [link] [comments] |
| I’m having a problem with my AirPods Posted: 28 Feb 2022 06:37 PM PST I've had my AirPods for about a year and a half now and the left AirPod is significantly quieter. I use them pretty much all day everyday to listen to music but I'm not listening at a high volume. I've cleaned them with alcohol multiple times and that has worked for me in the past however it hasn't this time. I'm not sure if there's anything I can do or if it's just time to go buy a new pair but I'd love to hear some suggestions. And if I were to go buy a new pair then which should I get?
