Apple Should Make Home Wi-Fi Routers Again as Part of Mac Reboot

    Posted: 20 Mar 2022 07:36 AM PDT

Any updates as to what's happening with Apple's self repair programme? We've had no mention of it since its first press release over 4 months ago.

This new AirTag update sucks for people who share keys

    Posted: 20 Mar 2022 11:22 AM PDT

To start, I know the update was to combat misuse of AirTags but for general use, it is so annoying.

My wife and I share one key to our one car. There is an AirTag on it that is connected to her Apple ID. Every time I take the keys to drive, they are constantly beeping. It is so annoying. They were beeping in the movie theater the other night and I couldn't get it to stop.

This is going to force me to carry our spare key as my own.

This week I launched Posture Pal, which helps you improve your posture through the motion sensors in your AirPods.

    Posted: 20 Mar 2022 02:19 AM PDT

A few years back I bought a hardware tracker to improve my posture, which required me to stick it to the back of my neck. After a few days of feeling like a cyborg I stopped using it. When I came across the motion detection API I realized I would be able to create the same posture tracking experience but in a much less obtrusive format. A lot of people have their AirPods in their ears the entire day, so they won't have to adjust their lifestyle as much.

Posture Pal will keep track of your neck tilt and will alert you when a bad posture is detected, even in the background. Here's a video of it in action:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bak1eXhinTE

And you can download it here:

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/posture-pal-improve-stance/id1590316152

    🦒 Posture Pals

My little cousins always ask me if I can also make video games as a developer. I wanted to make something fun together with them, which is why I came up with the concept for Posture Pal where there are animated characters that informs you about your posture. The first Posture Pal is Rafi the Giraffe! 🦒 You can interact with Rafi and they will hopefully make the experience a bit more playful for people.

    🌎 Localization

Thanks to friends from all over the world, Posture Pal has already been translated into 18 languages, including: English, Dutch, German, Danish, French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Bulgarian, Turkish, Croation, Portuguese, Korean, Hungarian, Polish, Vietnamese, Norwegian and Afrikaans.

    🤗 Accessibility

Posture Pal has been optimized from the start to be as accessible as possible, with full support for Dynamic Text, Reduce Motion and Voice Over.

    💰 Pricing

Posture Pal is free to download from the App Store. Users can track their posture for up to ten minutes at a time and can adjust the colors in the app until they relaunch the app. There's a one time payment for $2 (or equivalent) that removes the time limit, adds more customization for the posture tracking sensitivity and the theming of the app.

The proceeds of the first week of sales will be send to the families of our friends that have fled Ukraine in the last two weeks. 🇺🇦

I'd love to hear any ideas for what I can add to the app to make it more useful. I've got plans for shortcuts support, calibration, more advanced tracking and streaks as well as some minor ux improvements here and there! I'm also happy to answer any questions about the development process working with the AirPods!

Studio Display problem (fans always on with Macbook pro )

    Posted: 20 Mar 2022 10:27 AM PDT

——revision: The fans refers to the display fans ———

As the title suggested. I hocked up with 16 inch MacBook pro M1 with the cable that comes in.

Regardless of what I do, including put mbp to sleep, shutting down.

The studio display fans only stop when I have the cable unplugged.

Does anyone have the same problem with MBPs? My guess is the cable also charges the laptop and PSU was built in the display, might need heat disspation. OR I have a faulty unit.

iOS vs. macOS external media handling

    Posted: 20 Mar 2022 11:18 AM PDT

In iPadOS, USB-C connected drives can be unplugged at any time. the system never complains, never warns, and never seems to create errors as long as you wait until transactions are done.

In macOS, unplugging a drive means unmounting it first, and not doing so leads to insistent warnings and sometimes loss of information.

what is going on here? why can't macOS be as resilient as iPadOS when it comes to external media, or is there some hidden disadvantage in iPadOS?

There needs to be better integration between iTunes store and Apple music

    Posted: 19 Mar 2022 01:35 PM PDT

I'm a user of both the iTunes store (for music) and Apple Music (call me old school, but I like to own some of my music, but I also like their streaming service). What I don't understand is why can't there be better integration between Apple Music and the iTunes store. For example, maybe they could have a button that says "stream now on Apple Music" AND "own for [insert price here]."

I hate switching between the two applications (on iPhone) and in MacOS, the left side menu iTunes option in the Music app. Very annoying.

I realize iTunes is a legacy Apple service and perhaps they'll kill it one day, but there are still some Apple customers like myself out there who like the flexibility of both owning and streaming music.

    Anyone else think the same?

Last Week on My Mac: Is Look Up destined for CSAM?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2022 10:22 AM PDT

It would be great if the Apple Display supported the sidecar feature thing like in the iPad.

    Posted: 19 Mar 2022 06:44 PM PDT

Ditto. If Apple really belives in a wireless future, I do really hope they're working on a new Apple Display that supports wireless connection from any Mac (Mac, Macbook, Pro, Studio) because I do think the sidecare feature is one of the best Mac exclusive features out there. It's fast, easy, and pretty reliable. Given that the new Display has an Apple chip, I do hope that a firmware update would make this feature be a thing. What do you guys think?

Allow the option to turn off editing in notes!

    Posted: 19 Mar 2022 09:35 AM PDT

    Dear Apple:

Please give us the option to turn off editing in notes! There have been many occurrences where I would mistakenly tap something on my iPad screen and not know what I have changed in my notes. I just want to read them without having anything changed.

What are the pros and cons of an Apple credit card?

Title. I'm thinking about getting an Apple Card, but I'm wondering if I'm missing anything. 3% cash back sounds pretty good, and there are some other, smaller benefits. What are your experiences with the card and the system overall?
