Need help putting OSX on a 2009 Macbook Pro (New hard drive replacement) Posted: 26 Feb 2022 11:45 PM PST I have a 2009 Macbook Pro that has blank drive but i'm having issues getting any version of OSX on it. I tried TransMac & Uubyte to make a bootable drive with no luck. I've downloaded at least 20gigs of DMG , ISOs etc but the USB flash drive doesn't appear in the boot menu. I've tried several flash drives as well. I'm not familiar OSX but I have a feeling like I'm missing a critical step - everything I've read says to go to disk utilities but this a blank HDD with no OSX recovery partition. I've been googling for hours - even editing my search results by date to well as using wayback machine [link] [comments]
Why is Bootcamp still there on M1 based Mac's? Posted: 27 Feb 2022 02:57 AM PST Seems odd that Monterrey for M1 based Mac's has Bootcamp still available - even though it doesn't work. Perhaps this points to a time in the very near future where Windows for ARM will be released and Bootcamp becomes a viable option once again for running Windows on Mac? Just curious. Adding new music directly to playlist, and it immediately disappears from playlist Posted: 26 Feb 2022 09:07 PM PST As title describes, with Apple Music on Mac OS 12.1, when I add (import aka drop new m4a files) into a playlist (I use a staging playlist called Newly Imported), Music finishes importing, but then the songs just disappear from the playlist. It's still in the main library, but this defeats the purpose, as many times I need to edit the tags of the songs that I add. Any idea what's causing this behavior? [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Feb 2022 07:48 PM PST I recently got a new 14" macbook pro and I have a usb-c docking station for my last HP laptop with a 120W charger. Is there a way to determine that it is supplying the correct power to my device? I'm hesitant to use it over charge/burn out my laptop. I dont see any apple approved pass through power usb-c docks. MacBook Pro 2020 reboot issue fix? Posted: 27 Feb 2022 12:43 AM PST Mac always reboots after disconnecting from dock. For reference: on macOS Big Sur 11.6 [link] [comments]
How to securely delete an external SSD Posted: 26 Feb 2022 05:24 PM PST This is an external SSD, via USB, 2015 MacBook Pro running Mojave. I'm returning the drive to a company and would like to erase it securely (if possible, and I'm not sure it is). I've read some about this subject. There's little consensus and lots of conflicting advice. Anyone want to put their two cents in? edit: I meant erase SSD, not delete. [link] [comments]

Using clamshell mode, but going to sleep. Posted: 27 Feb 2022 03:43 AM PST I believe this can be posted here, if not, I'm sorry. This may sound like a stupid question, but how can I keep my Mac plugged in to 2 monitors and still be able to go to sleep when I close the lid. I use my Mac screen as my main, and the monitors as 2 extra displays. When I close the lid, it automatically switches to clamshell mode but I would rather it go right to sleep because I don't use it while its closed. I use the keyboard and trackpad on my Mac, not externals. I find myself having to unplug the monitors before I close the computer to avoid this. TIA. [link] [comments]
What SSD do you recommend me to my Macbook Pro 2012? Posted: 26 Feb 2022 09:34 PM PST Hello people, I just upgraded my Macbook Pro to Catalina, it's running very well but when I need to restart or just shut down It can be kind slow. So now I'm looking to upgrade the hardware, It have the original disk and now I'm looking to add a SSD to replace the old one. I never did this kind of job, just changed the ram and other simple taks. I watched some tutorials and look not to much complicated, but I need help to choose a good SSD. Thank you! Charging Macbook Air M1 with iPhone's charger? (20W) Posted: 27 Feb 2022 03:01 AM PST This might be a stupid question, but I don't really know much about this so I prefer sounding stupid and asking than messing up. Is it possible to use your iPhone's 20W charger to charge your MacBook Air M1? I get that if it is possible it will take longer obviously, but is there going to be an issue for the laptop charging it this way? [link] [comments]

Fujifilm X-T30 not being detected Posted: 26 Feb 2022 04:50 PM PST Windows user ever since but just got an M1 Macbook Pro recently. I also have a Fujifilm X-T30. But when I try to connect my X-T30 to my Mac via USB C cable, Mac is not detecting it. I already changed the connection setting in the camera to USB Reader but it still doesn't appear in Finder. I tried pluggin in just the memory card and I can see all photos in it in Finder. Is there a step I need to do first for my Mac to detect the camera? TIA for the help. [link] [comments]

Looking for Alert Sounds from OS Catalina or Earlier (basso, frog, funk, etc.) Posted: 26 Feb 2022 03:33 PM PST The sounds that show up when you go into System Settings--->Sound--->Sound Effects. If you're still using the Catalina operating system then you could find the .aiff files I'm looking for just by hitting shift-command-G, pasting /System/Library/Sounds/ in the box and hitting "Go." I can share a Dropbox folder that you could upload them to if you can provide them, your help would be eternally appreciated!! Comment or send a DM. [link] [comments]
Remap keyboard to match Windows Posted: 26 Feb 2022 04:32 PM PST Hello, Hope y'all are doing well. I needed some help with remapping my external keyboard that I use with my MacBook to mirror the functionality of Windows. I switch between my personal Windows laptop and MacBook for work often and I'm finding it difficult to context switch between the two especially when it comes to the shortcuts. Basically, I need my MB to understand Window's shortcuts and work off of that like remapping copy paste, using the delete key to delete files, creating new folders, using ctrl + arrows to move around the text editor, etc. Is there something that I can do to achieve this? Maybe someone has built a program to do this? Would you please point me to the right resources to get this done? Thank you in advance! [link] [comments]

Posted: 26 Feb 2022 01:35 PM PST Is it possible to know how many times a SD card was formatted? In the drive itself or in the computer (in this case, Mac OS Catalina). I'm looking for a specific event that happened a year ago (so it's not in System.log anymore). [link] [comments]
I am trying to filter live photos with a Finder Smart Folder Posted: 26 Feb 2022 11:34 AM PST My iPhone photography workflow starts with importing all content off my phone into a year-month folder via Image Capture. I then want to move all videos that are not live photos to a different folder. I've tried a Smart Folder condition of duration greater than 2 seconds but that's not showing any results. I haven't seen any other conditions that are leading me to a solution. A more complex idea I had was to use AppleScript and move any files that do not have a .JPG and .MOV matching pair. I'm not sure if I could read the meta data to do it more elegantly there. I know the image file has an ID in the EXIF Media Group UUID that matches a Content Identifier in the movie file. UPDATE: I'm realizing that maybe it does work, but only for local files. Attempting to create the Smart Folder on my AFP connected NAS returns no results but with the same set of files locally it does. However this is not a reliable way to find all live photos because some are longer than 3 seconds. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Feb 2022 03:07 AM PST Bought a MacBook Pro M1. Sold that boat anchor a few months later. Took a $300 loss but it was worth it. Yesterday, I uninstalled Monterey on my 2014 Mac Mini (purchased recently because I wanted a Mac Mini I could upgrade) and installed Sierra 'cuz I want nothing to do with that NASTY APFS. FYI - After screwing around with Monterey for a couple of months, it hard-locked 3 times in two weeks. I haven't had a hard-lock in over 10 years before that. Been a certified Apple tech since the mid-90's (and an IT Manager since 2001) and things steadily improved until Yosemite came along. It's been all downhill since then. If my setup gets too old to compute anymore, I'll switch to Linux. Bring back Steve Jobs. Things have deteriorated quickly since he left the planet. I don't want to hear from fanboys/girls telling me how wonderful their junk is - I've been around a lot longer than you and I've seen the best Apple had to offer both in HW and SW. Today's dreck (especially the M1's and Monterey) is nowhere near the quality they used to put out. What sucks about the MBP M1? How 'bout no MagSafe, USB C only, USB C ports so close together you can't plug in 2 things at the same time (REALLY? They couldn't space the ports a few mm's further apart?), no SD slot, a battery that consistently runs down to 0% when it was properly shut down and closed tight a week ago, and automatically turns on when you open the clamshell. Who the hell are they to tell me when to turn on my computer. Do they thing I'm so incompetent I can't press a power button when I'm ready to get started? What sucks about APFS? You can't clone a working setup. You can't restore from a Time Machine backup. SIP. Notorization. The inability for a HFS+ OS to read APFS drives (I got it to happen on Sierra after a few hours work) and that's without getting into how bad Spotlight is, the fact that you can no longer resize a lot of dialog boxes that need resizing (and used to), and finally, just 'cuz I'm tired of listing crap, Airport Utility 6x. OS X was around for 10 years. OS 11 was around for 1 year. OS 12 had been around since October of 2021. Why do think that is? It's obvious to me. When I got frustrated with my 3rd iPhone (as in - I owned 3, not the 3rd generation), I switched to Android 2.5 years ago and boy, did life improve after that. I've designed, installed and maintained server rooms with Mac and Windows servers (that all talked to each other) for a 50 computer company (I was a one-man IT department) so don't think I don't know what I'm doing. I can see through the BS Apple and Microsoft shove at neophytes on a daily basis. Do I sound angry? Wouldn't you be? [link] [comments] |
