Why The Apple Watch Is The Best Ever

    Posted: 09 Feb 2022 02:51 AM PST

Okay so I just really wanted to share this.

My dad is 78 and owns the SE.

He called me the other night to say he was feeling unwell and that every time he laid down on his bed to go to sleep his heart was racing. On the heart app his heart was going upto 140 and then going down to 43. This was after 1130pm.

He lives five minutes away so I drove to his house to see him.

Owning the series 6 I put my Apple Watch on him and did an ecg. It showed that he had atrial fibrillation. I instantly made him call 111 which is the UK to get heath advice. He was advised to get to the hospital within the hour.

I drove him to the hospital but was unable to stay with him due to covid regulations. He stayed there throughout the early hours until the evening. He had various ecgs and they where able to sort the atrial fibrillation out with medication.

Since returning home I got him to purchase the series 7.

I am so grateful for the Apple watches for this. Untreated atrial fibrillation caused my mother to have a heart attack and she unfortunately passed away in 2016. Had the watch with the ecg been around then maybe she would still be here today. I know it has certainly helped my dad.

I know a lot of you aren’t into cases… but this thing saved my watch getting wrecked by a knurled barbell today. What’s your thoughts on cases?

    LEFT BEHIND alert?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2022 11:29 AM PST

Is there any way to adjust the geofence that detects whether your iPhone and Apple Watch have been separated triggering the alert "iPhone left behind"?

I tested it the other day on a hike and was able to get a full kilometre away before the alert. (iPhone 13 Pro/Apple Watch 7)

So how many of you are using your watch with a case?

Any good 3-in-1 chargers that support Apple Watch's fast charger?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2022 10:16 AM PST

I have belkin's 3-in-1 magsafe charger which is great except it uses the non-fast watch charger variant. I've seen chargers on Amazon that basically let you insert the fast charger that came with the watch but I haven't found any that support magsafe.

I'm currently thinking of getting a 2-in-1 charger for the phone/airpods and a separate stand with an insert for the apple watch fast charger. What charger do you guys use?

    Third party bands?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2022 01:55 PM PST

I finally bit the bullet and got my first Apple Watch (series 7 41 mm in Starlight)!

I've previously had a Fitbit and loved the functionality of the magnetic loop bands but I had a cheap one off of Amazon that kept getting snagged on sweaters etc. Has anyone had a good experience with a third party brand of this type of band?

The cost of the watch was hard to swallow, I'd like to avoid having to drop another $120 on a band if possible lol!

    S7 not fully charging

    Posted: 09 Feb 2022 02:31 PM PST

I recently bought an Apple Watch S7 for my mother as a gift, and when I say recent, I mean about 4 days ago. She used it right out of the box and everything was fine. However, upon charging it for the first time, we realized it's not going to 100%. We tried different cords, different power bricks, and even different outlets. (Yes all official Apple ones) Nothing is working, it won't charge past 90%. We tried a hard reset, we tried unpairing it, we tried updating it, and still nothing. Anyone else have this issue? Should I just take it back and swap it for a new one?

I left my Series 1 on charge for over 12 hours & now it won’t turn on. Any ideas?

I can't find anyone online with the same specific problem as me, I'm really sad & would rather not buy a new one!

Are Apple Watch 6 SS gold and Apple Watch 7 SS gold the same colour? Thinking about getting a Milanese band for AW6.

    Posted: 09 Feb 2022 08:05 AM PST

Hi everyone. I'm thinking about purchasing a Milanese band from Apple for my AW6 SS that came with a sports band, but am unsure if it's the same shade of gold as the one from the previous year. Does anyone know?

I actually have a wrist that is slightly too small for the Milanese band, so the watch moves a little when I move my arm. Is it a good idea to get a Milanese in my case?

VO2 max going down as actual fitness is improving

    Posted: 09 Feb 2022 01:27 PM PST

I've seen some posts on here before expressing a similar sentiment, but I still don't really understand the correlation between workout type/duration and the VO2 max measurement.

Since the start of this year (and really from about October of last year or so), I've (26F) really upped the intensity of my workouts. Four times per week I'll do a long, steady state rowing session on an erg in. This is about 50 minutes of high heart rate (170s-180s) exercise. I also do 2-3 long rowing sessions in an actual boat (a bit more all over the place in terms of intensity), plus weekly yoga and a lot of long walks. Over the course of the 5ish months that I've been doing this, I am notably fitter.

However, my VO2 max according to my AppleWatch has dropped significantly. It was hovering between 38 and 39 before I started these longer and higher-intensity workouts, but now, it's at 33.9!

I know that a metric on a watch doesn't really matter when I can feel the real life benefits in my body. My heart rate recovery times are surprisingly great, and I'm proud of how far I've come, but I'm just curious as to what might be throwing this particular measurement off.

    Thanks in advance!

Opinion on Gentler Streak? Comparison with HealthFit!

    Posted: 09 Feb 2022 09:37 AM PST

Are there any users of both Gentler Streak and HealthFit? It appears like GentlerStreak uses the TSB model to determine fitness - the same (but detailed) is available on HealthFit app.

Then, why does GentlerStreak have such rave reviews? Am I missing something?

How can I drop multiple pins on a map from my Apple Watch?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2022 09:32 AM PST

As the title says, I need to mark multiple GPS locations that can be reviewed at a later time. Apple Maps on the watch seems to only allow one pin at a time, while Google Maps doesn't allow much beyond displaying directions.

Does anyone know of a way to drop multiple pins on a map? Bonus points for methods without using Cellular and with time stamps.

    Trade in denied my Apple

    Posted: 09 Feb 2022 01:15 PM PST

Recently upgraded to the S7 and traded in my SE for credit. Apple declined it saying "could not pair or unpair device". I really don't understand what I did wrong. I reset it to factory settings and turned off "Find my". The Watch was returned to me so I'm asking if there's something I need to do in order to sell the Watch on my own. Thank you for any advice you can offer to the technically challenged!

Anyone know why my AW heart rate measurement varies so much? 286 one day and 806 next day?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2022 03:48 AM PST

Would there be a difference in GPS accuracy between the SE and Series 7?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2022 12:26 PM PST

Title kind of says it all really. I've tried doing some research but haven't really found anything concrete. I mainly want the watch to use for recording runs, so want the GPS to be as accurate as possible.

Any anecdotal data on the GPS accuracy of either model is also welcome!
