It’s 15.3. AppStore scrolling is very choppy.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2022 02:22 AM PST

If I touch more information about app, it gets very choppy. I think the reason is variable refresh rate is not working properly at that section.

Plus, twitter scroling is also a little choppy. Reddit as well. Instagram hasn't that issue so far.

    Anyone have the same issues?

From an Android user: what sold you on IOS?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2022 06:11 PM PST

Hey y'all! I'm an Android user (previous iphone user), and I would like to know a little more about what sold you on IOS? Specifically, what draws you to IOS instead of other OS?

Please no OS slander here, I'm genuinely curious and not looking for an argument. I don't think other phones/operating systems are better, I just haven't used an apple device in over three years. Thank you!

iOS 15.x 'Storage Bug' Case Scenario

    Posted: 31 Jan 2022 12:31 PM PST

iOS 15.x 'Storage Bug' Case Scenario

I updated my devices to iOS 15.3 hoping the Storage Bug issue would be resolved but unfortunately that is not the case.

After doing some careful logging, testing, re-setting different iphones, installing App by App case scenario to try to find out 'what' could be causing that 'famous' (or should we say infamous) 'Storage Bug' case, I've been able to trace tha cause to 'some' specific apps.

    A bit of Background Info:

-under normal circumstances, an App will store it's 'app data' along with the app itself.

This information should be listed with the 'App' itself under the section 'Documents & Data' section in within each app.

A 'good' example of this would be the Apples own 'Music' App:

The picture in the link immediately below shows what it should look like:

    https://preview.redd.it/w53x3z6b03f81.jpg?width=1229&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f7c4e37f6e34d48bf6ecbc6243275c39d56b7aa6

For this example, 'Music' shows 12.97 GB of usage which once clicked to see the details on that category itself it is shown in the details as follows:

    App Size: 15.3 MB

    Documents and Data: 12.96 GB

which in this case corresponds with the ammount of music that I have downloaded to my iphone (ie. synced through itunes)

    https://preview.redd.it/2yle9uif03f81.jpg?width=1237&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b4d33fa7fdc868eed13a6e9d85b0308b1770ba6d

'Most' Apps behave in this fashion.

What i've found however, is that 'some' apps are having a problem in the latest iOS versions and thus, the 'Data' that normally should only be stored in the 'Documents and Data' section with each app itself is being DUPLICATED and stored TWICE:

-once in the 'Documents and Data' section with the App itself (which alone should be normal)

    AND

-a second time, DUPLICATING, the size and Data in 'Other Data' (also known as System Data in iOS)

In my particular case scenario, namely within the Apps I currently use and have installed in my own devices (namely iphones), i found out that one of the apps I have installed generates this Storage Bug.

This app causing (of the apps I use) is the 'TomTom Go' for iOS App ('TomTom Go' for iOS is used for Navigation and enables users to download maps locally).

If I 'restored from backup', then after the process was completed, the huge 'Other Data' would be there as well, so I would not be able to identify 'what' was causing it... so in my case scenario, the 'only' way I was able to identify the cause --for my case scenario-- was to set up the device as a brand new device and install one app at the time and see the impact with the 'Other Data' (also known as 'System Data' in iOS).

The picture in the link below shows right after I've reset my iphone and re-set it up as a brand new device and TomTom Go for ios is just installed:

    https://preview.redd.it/vd8gqbrl03f81.jpg?width=1240&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8ec78d6591f93fa4f78e4ccf2474a21474f3e898

Notice that the Size of 'Documents & Data' is extremely small, only 18 KB which is normal as there are no maps downloaded.

The picture in the link shows TomTom Go for ios with Map Data downloaded (17+ GB):

    App Size: 188.8 MB

    Documents and Data: 17.34 GB

    https://preview.redd.it/svune6tp03f81.jpg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ad4958400f4e89f8ffa390bd0c6d631308d353b

However the 'same' ammount found in 'Documents and Data' in the TomTom Go App would immediately increase in the same ammount also in 'Other Data' (also Known as 'System Data' in iOS)

    https://preview.redd.it/hz6jnhsr03f81.jpg?width=1240&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e59968f81dfd611eccbaad6ccfe33566bb8f92e3

    https://preview.redd.it/tgivqc4t03f81.jpg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8b28013469278981d7b36378b883b7d0bd10b0d

Just in case, I'm adding a couple of pictures right after I re-set my iphone (which I've done with 3 different devices in the last few days, each has replicated the same phenomena, so it's not a 'device' issue, but different iphones 6S Plus, 8, 10, etc... all running ioS 15.3) showing the size of 'Other Data' which right after the re-set was about 1Gb

    https://preview.redd.it/wm2eb0f813f81.jpg?width=1240&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1e9965932bdd4e2002c90fc7560afae5ffc8f25d

    https://preview.redd.it/fsjy78a913f81.jpg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b55afd927cae51a21f761b19a311dfb818a2a373

Since this post is already long as it is, I'm not including a bunch of additional information, though relevant probably even helpful to add (even more) details to this Storage Bug problem, but I rather wouldbe insterested to hear if there are out there other users that may have run more detailed analysis and if so, I would welcome those details. If there are any iOS developers out there that may have the knowledge in the changes in the recent iOS releases that may share some light into why this is happenning... I'm thinking more in lines that there have been changes in iOS implemented, to which iOS developers may know that additional commands should be added in the code of an app to cause the app(s) to 'dump' their 'cache' data from 'Other Data' (also known as 'System Data in iOS)?... again, if there are any of you out there than can share more light into this issue, I would certainly appreciate it.

    SMS Issues with new iPad

    Posted: 01 Feb 2022 02:33 AM PST

Hello, I replaced my Air 2 iPad over the weekend with a new 10.2 iPad. My issue is when I get an SMS message (message is fine) both devices receive it however my iPad will not mark it as read if I read it on my iPhone. If I read the message on my iPad my iPhone recognizes it and marks it as read. My old iPad did not have this issue.

-I have disabled/reenabled messages in the cloud

-Both devices are signed in to the same iCloud ID

-I have turned off and on iMessage on both devices

-Wifi calling and text message forwarding are enabled on both devices.

    Any other suggestions?

Hide My Email vs iCloud Email alias

    Posted: 31 Jan 2022 12:57 PM PST

As of iOS/iPadOS 15.2, HME seems to have no critical limitation as email aliasing so I consider transforming all exposing emails to HME. Is there any issue over the conventional iCloud email alias?

Can you track someone that typed comments into a shared note?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2022 03:43 AM PST

I was working on a start up website development project. The guy that's in charge of most of the website building suggested that we make notes using the notes app on our IOS devices to organize and take notes during FaceTime meetings.

Someone typed something sexually suggestive in the notes that I shared and I was trying to find the evidence of who did it. I locked the note to where only I could make changes and edit it.

I told the guy that's in charge that I'm not making shared notes anymore because I can't find out who added what.

SE 2016 users, how is your idle/standby battery on iOS 15?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2022 02:47 AM PST

I've got horrible drain on idle. Good cellular signal, good wifi.

Settings app doesn't say any particular app using the battery.

Before you jump suspecting a worn battery, the same phone was fine on iOS 14. Also the battery doesn't drain by itself, shutting it off then poweron after a week shows the same level.

Tried airplane mode and radios off, same drain. Note the phone is already on iOS 15 for long, it's not the usual fresh upgrade battery drain.

Something in iOS drains and is not accounted by the Settings app. Sysdiagnose with battery profile also shows no suspect drainer.

No Instagram DM notifications on one of my two accounts?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2022 02:15 AM PST

I have a problem with my instagram notifications and i am one step away from breaking down.

I run instagram on an iPhone 12 with the iOS 15.4 beta.

I have two instagram accounts. On one of them, all of the notifications work fine, i get all of them, no problems.

On the other one though, i don't get any DM notifications, except for requests. But for any incoming DMs, i don't get alerts or anything. And i don't understand why!

I have restartet my device, reinstalled the app, all notification settings in the settings app are on, all of the notification settings in the instagram app itself are turned on too.

I compared the settings between both accounts and they are the exact same.

Now, i thought that maybe i muted the DM notifications with the sliding left/right thing, but i am not completely sure, how muting works. Is it possible to mute only instagram DMs but still get all of the other notifications? If so, is there any way to unmute the notifications without getting a new one from the thing you are trying to unmute? Also, would there be banners without sound, if the notification was muted, or just nothing at all? If so, how would i umute them?

I am so frustrated, it is so annoying and i have no idea at all what i am doing wrong!

If anyone has a solution, please let me know! And if anyone has the same problem, please let me know too, that way i at least know that i am not going crazy.

    Air drop not working sometimes.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2022 11:58 AM PST

I've been having issues with airdrop and it's happening pretty regularly. I have an IPad 8 that I'm given at work. Part of my job is taking pictures to document stuff. The camera on this iPad sucks, especially at night, so I take pictures on my 13 Pro Max and air drop them to the iPad.

Here's the issue. Sometimes I'll pull up the air drop option on my phone, and the iPad (Pavia) will only show under devices. If I try to use that button to send it, it will not go through. I'll never get the prompt on the iPad, and my phone will just say Waiting.

If I press the one under Other People, it goes through pretty much instantly. I've learned to just use the one on the bottom under Other People. But sometimes that one doesn't pop up.

I've tried adding the iPad to my contacts, but it still doesn't work correctly.

    Pictures

EDIT: This iPad has cellular, and they are usually not on wifi when trying this.

It’s iOS 15.3 and still Group FaceTime is buggy AF.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2022 11:54 AM PST

Adding a person to FaceTime audio call turns it into FaceTime video call. Share screen and turn it off, either the camera or the mic gets turned off. Leave and rejoin a Group FaceTime call, it connects sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. You gotta try a couple of times. Cannot remove people from a Group FaceTime call. Cannot remove people from a past Group FaceTime call, if you want to call some of them you have to make a new FaceTime call and add one by one. When you make a Group FaceTime call, each tiny window says "waiting" with a button "ring". Sometimes it only rings if you press it. Other times, it rings even though it says "waiting ". Apple, if you're reading this, WTF!

Need help updating from old beta.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2022 08:16 PM PST

I just started up my old iPhone 8 that's still running iOS 14.0 beta, I try to update to iOS 15 but everytime it finds a way not to, the best answer I can find is to delete the iOS 14 beta profile, but it doesn't show any installed profiles, infact the profiles section in settings isn't even there. Everytime i try to update it either stops at "resume update", "estimating time remaining", or most of the time just says "ios 14.0, your software is up to date"

Edit : itunes also shows "up to date" when I scan for updates

Need advice with installing new SSD so my iPhone can backup to it.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2022 01:22 PM PST

Long story short, my PC has a 256GB SSD it came with but with the Windows 10 OS on it, it does not have enough room to back up by iPhone. This is annoying to say the least and I'm unable to back it up on the other 1TB HDD in the PC because basically, the iPhone can only backup on the main drive for some reason.

So I bought a new 500GB SSD and am looking to install it properly and I'm wondering quite simply what I should do to achieve my desire of having my iPhone backup to it.

Do I install the new 500GB SSD, copy the OS to the new SSD, and I'm good to go? How do I dictate to my computer that the new, larger SSD is the main SSD?

I'm obviously far from familiar with a lot of computer stuff so any help is appreciated.

How low do you let your battery capacity under battery health get before upgrading or notice performance decline?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2022 06:28 PM PST

Mine is down to 88% for an iPhone 12 Pro. Seems like performance is already taking a hit and not sure if there's anything to it but when it gets down to 20% or below performance goes down the toilet. Does low battery actually affect how fast or well your device runs?
