| How to create a proper reminder with Siri? Posted: 21 Jan 2022 04:52 AM PST I can't figure out how to make a reminder with siri. The purpose of a reminder is to be reminded. Not merely to add something to the reminder app. Forgive me for not knowing how to do this. In android, here's how it usually goes: "Hey google, remind me to take my medicine in 5 minutes." And the phone will show a notification in 5 minutes. If I don't say the time, it will ask "when do you want to be reminded?". This is the proper way how a reminder should work. But I can't do it with Apple/Siri. Even when I say "in 5 minutes", Siri just make a reminder that says "today" with no time attached. Of course if I don't say the time, Siri doesn't ask me when to be reminded (contrast with Google) This is very frustrating, I've missed my meds because of this. I'm willing to learn how to make timed reminder with Siri. Can someone help me? [link] [comments] |

| GPS Accuracy Issue Related to Phone Orientation/Location While Running Posted: 21 Jan 2022 07:06 AM PST So in an earlier post I detailed how when I run with my Apple Watch (S6) and iPhone (12 Pro Max) the GPS is 3-6% short (consistently, and this happened on my Apple Watch S5 and iPhone Max X). My devices are all updated to current iOS and watch OS. I typically run with my phone at the back of my waist/small of my back in a FlipBelt. A few weeks ago I did not have my belt so I ran with it in my pocket and discovered that it was within 0.02 miles of my Garmin and other measurements of my route. So, I tested this out a bit... with my phone in my FlipBelt the watch is still typically 3-6% short, but whenever I run with my phone in my pocket (about 5-6 times so far) the watch is within 0.02 miles short of my garmin/known distance routes, which I would consider more or less "accurate". Why does the location/orientation of my phone impact this? Does anyone have any insight or ideas? This has been very frustrating for 2 years. I just want to be able to rely on my watch for GPS mileage when running while still having my phone with me. Apple support has come up empty after over a year of back and forth with them and going through multiple rounds of data collection. The closest I got to an answer over a year ago is that it's a bug and the tech guys are "working on it". And through all of this, it seems that the phone is what causes the issue. I've had no issues with Google Maps when navigating while driving. And this has been an issue on multiple generations of hardware. Friends (runners) with an AW don't seem to have any issues with GPS accuracy. Thanks in advance for any advice! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 21 Jan 2022 08:04 AM PST Here's my situation: I have a lot of photo files that are currently in a very annoying structure of sub folders within sub folders on an external hard drive. I want to flatten the nested directories and get all 125,000 photos into one folder. I don't think I can do this in finder and I've never done tasks in terminal or automation. It will connect, and then disconnect about 10 seconds after. When I plug it into iPad, I can't even see battery on widget. I'm not sure why this is, and this has never happened before. | iPhone Xs gets HOT and slow when using wireless charging in cars Posted: 21 Jan 2022 09:37 AM PST Hi I have an iPhone Xs and am experiencing issues with heat and performance when charging it in either of my cars. It's a brand new Xs, as my old one broke but luckily was covered by insurance. I have two cars with my partner, ID.3 and A3 8Y. The Audi (my daily) is by far the worst when it comes to wireless charging with this exact phone. Don't get me wrong, it charges fast and works every time, but the phone gets so hot it freezes and needs to cool down for 10-15 minutes before CarPlay recognises it again. This does not happen with my partners Samsung phone. That phone barely gets warm and has no performance issues. What can I do to solve this? [link] [comments] |

Some songs are playing at a significantly lower volume than other song when streaming on radio stations. Like 4-5 "clicks" on the keyboard volume. When I play the same song after searching it up, it plays at a higher volume. There's no difference when I switch the Audio Quality and Sound Enhancer in Prefs. | Finder only shows external hard drive contents in safe boot Posted: 21 Jan 2022 09:16 AM PST I am running Mac OS 12.1 on a 2019 Retina 4k Intel core i3 imac. I have an external hard drive that includes all of my files for music production and when i try to see the contents of that hard drive on finder it says loading and just stays like that. If i try to exit finder it will pretty much crash and then it won't relaunch when i prompt it to do so. If i safeboot, the contents will come up just fine. There was a power surge last night while i was using the computer maybe that caused the problem? Ive tried running disk utility and diagnostics. It says everything is fine. I looked for the finder plist file but couldn't find it. I really need to be able to see my files. Please help. [link] [comments] |
| All Apple devices having trouble with my 5ghz WiFi, but nothing else is Posted: 21 Jan 2022 09:09 AM PST So i have serveral Apple products (iPhone 12, Macbook pro 2014, MacBook air 2020, iPad air 2) all of which do not connect to my 5ghz WiFi. They usually just tell me the password isn't correct, or they connect for a little bit and then have an issue and jump to my 2.4. My Windows/Linux laptops, Chromebooks, and android devices are all on my 5ghz just fine with no issues. Anyone else run into something like this? If so how did you fix it? I tried changing channels, setting my WiFi to auto for channel selection, different routers/access points. Same results, so I don't know what else to try. Could it be my firewall (PFSense) or my TPLink Access Points? [link] [comments] |
| Applecare Express Defective Return Missing Posted: 21 Jan 2022 05:19 AM PST A couple weeks ago Apple sent me a replacement iPhone 12 Pro in exchange for my defective iPhone 12 Pro and the same day I received it, I turned around and dropped off the defective at FedEx in the shipping box that the replacement came in per Apple's enclosed instructions. I sealed the package and received a FedEx drop off receipt. A couple days later, tracking showed the defective item delivered back to Apple A.I. in PA. All is well right? Nope. Got an email yesterday from Apple saying that they received my return package, but the box was empty and that I needed to call them so they can investigate. HUH? How can this happen? How am I responsible? The Apple rep requested copies of my purchase invoice and my FedEx drop off receipt so I uploaded them. Not that the tracking didn't already show drop off and delivery back to Apple. I was told they would extend the return period till they hear back from FedEx in 5-7 business days and not charge my credit card the $1,000 they authorized in the meantime. I took every precaution to ensure this defective got back to them including trekking to FedEx and getting it scanned-in instead of handing it to a driver or tossing it into a FedEx drop box. Anyone else ever experience anything like this with Apple before? Obviously someone along the way pilfered the box because I don't see this box simply giving up the contents without someone peeling or cutting the sealer tape. I know Apple can block this device and it's basically a brick. Apple warranty lookup of the serial number shows this to be a replaced device, so they are in control of this device. Someone got a defective device and I get 7 days of stress waiting to see how Apple handles this. I can't imagine and don't at all expect FedEx to admit fault, much less accept responsibility for this loss. [link] [comments] |

My iphone xs on ios14.8.1 is not sending text messages. I can receive them fine and I don't think it's to do with carrier as my sister's is working fine. Also I can still call. I only noticed this today (the last text I sent was 2 days ago though). Only thing I did today was reboot my phone. I wasn't having issues, I was showing someone else how to do it. Any settings I should check that could be off? Anything at all that can be done? I had my phone open in settings and my hand was on it but I wasnt looking and I fear something may have been pressed. I checked the phone/messages section but didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Help, I really don't want to update so if this could be fixed without it I'd really appreciate it. Posted: 21 Jan 2022 07:49 AM PST i just got a new iphone 12pro, exciting, exciting!! but i'm having issues with the restore process. i've factory reset my phone twice now, because the restore keeps getting stuck at a certain GB for days. my storage isn't the problem, and all of my apps are fine, but i'm still told that there's more left to restore in my settings. the "stop restore" button also doesn't work for some reason, so im thinking about deleting the backup from my icloud. would that help? For some reason though, her phone struggles to send videos and pictures over Imessages or connect on FaceTime. If she turns off wifi the problem is resolved. I'm one of the developers of an open source browser extension startpage that takes heavy inspiration from iOS' design language. I won't name it or link to it since this post will probably get banned, but you can find it easily on my profile. We've been working on it for almost three years and our users love it, but have been since the beginning asking for a Safari version (it's only available for Chrome, Firefox and Edge). That would totally make sense since our target audience is Apple users, but we haven't done it yet. Apple developers accounts are expensive and it wouldn't make financial sense for us. Our users have been very kindly making donations for the last few years, and we're finally at a point where we can afford the Apple developer account (for a year anyway). The problem is that we're nervous about publishing it since our design looks a lot like Apple's (which is the whole point), and we aren't sure if they're gonna like it. We're aware of the 4.1 "Copycat" part of the App Store guidelines and that will probably be the main problem. However, we feel like our extension is original, functional and well made enough that it's not a copycat. What do you think? Should we go for it and spend the hundred bucks?
