macOS 12 can run on 404 MB RAM! Posted: 06 Dec 2021 02:26 PM PST I was doing some experimenting today and I wanted to see what the least amount of RAM macOS 12 would boot on. After some very annoying experimenting - I got the "magic number". 404 MB. macOS absolutely refused to boot on anything below 404MB. However, even with 404MB, it wasn't very usable - it was laggy and obviously things took absurd amounts of time to load. I did a video on the process if anyone is interested. Fun experiment to pass the time, I guess [link] [comments]

Is there a way to save a Preview window arrangement for opening later? Posted: 06 Dec 2021 03:16 PM PST Ideally I'd like to be able to save a bunch of Preview and/or Finder windows arranged in a certain way and open them whenever I need to. Kind of like opening a selection of browser tabs. Then whatever changes I make to the arrangement, I'd like to be able to save, if possible. Thankful for any ideas! [link] [comments]
my ESC wont work on any app since i installed Monterey Posted: 06 Dec 2021 03:03 PM PST Even when I change my Option key with the ESC key, it wont work. idk if its a hardware problem or a software. Just pressing the ESC on Minecraft for example (and Option as ESC) won't pop up the menu screen. [link] [comments]
Can I download xcode straight onto a pendrive? Posted: 06 Dec 2021 04:53 PM PST Hii 👋 So I got a new 128gb USB the other day so I could download developers applications onto it because my McaBook Air does not have enough memory. I've tried downloading xcode directly off the internet onto the USB and for some reason each time I do so It stops downloading half way (4.29gb out of 10.58gb)and doesn't continue. My USB is currently formatted as MS-DOS (FAT32). I was so excited to start working on a new project but have spent hours looking for a reason why this my be happening. [link] [comments]
Installed MacOS Monterey and now my 2016 Pro is a brick Posted: 06 Dec 2021 04:06 PM PST Has this happened to anyone else? Installed the update last night and now it won't turn on or take a charge. I can't even boot into recovery. Took it to the genius bar today and they basically said to either pay $1400 to have it repaired or buy new and that it's a hardware issue. I was at a loss for their response. I can't revert the install because I can't get it to turn on aside from the occasional quick flash on the screen. Any feedback would be helpful and genuinely appreciated! [link] [comments]

Macbook Air Bug Sur slow wifi when not connected to power source Posted: 06 Dec 2021 03:42 PM PST Like the title says, my macbook is connected to wifi router, but the wifi is slow if I am not connected to power source on the macbook. How do I resolve this? wifi on my other windows laptop works well if not connected to power source. [link] [comments]
Adobe Illustrator menus move every time laptop sleeps Posted: 06 Dec 2021 03:39 PM PST I have a MBP M1, OSX 12.0.1, plugged into a Samsung LC34J monitor using a USB C cable. The computer forgets the position of Adobe Illustrator (26.0.1) menus and windows when ever it goes to sleep. I have the Illustrator menus placed on the screen where they are convenient to use, but if the computer ever goes to sleep they get all jumbled on the screen. The behavior is really annoying, step away for a break = having to move all the menus back to where they belong. If I quit Illustrator it starts back with all of the menus where they should be. Is there any fix for this? [link] [comments]
New Macbook Pro M1 Pro using 105% Window Server in activity monitor? Posted: 06 Dec 2021 11:39 AM PST Seems oddly high eh? I think it is taking a hit on battery usage as well... Anyone aware of an issue like this and know how to mitigate? Here is a screenshot [link] [comments]

Messages is so annoying and inconsistent with iPhone behavior Posted: 06 Dec 2021 04:48 PM PST Let's say I want to command-click some messages in a conversation. If it's text or pics, it gets selected. But if it's a link it opens up the link. On iPhone, you can press-hold then select anything to delete. Links don't behave differently. Also, on macos Messages, if I shift click to select a bunch of messages, any links get happily selected. So again the first behavior is like wtf. Then the delete key doesn't work (inconsistent with Mail), but ok, I'll use Backspace. I get a dialog with Cancel | Delete. I tab to Delete and press Enter. Nothing happens. I have to mouse click on the Delete button. Sorry, it's a crap app. [link] [comments]
Samba share very slow on my new mac Posted: 06 Dec 2021 10:42 AM PST So just got a m1 air recently, loving pretty much everything about it except the performance using smb. Samba worked perfectly from windows and linux, on the air I am getting awful speeds even over ethernet. It was very laggy when scrolling and setting 'signing_required' to no seemed to help. Still browsing is pretty slow and transferring is horrible. Anybody got similar issues? Found some fixes maybe?? edit: signing should not be the problem on default configs, try this [link] [comments]
MBP 16" M1 Pro "WindowServer" over 100% CPU Usage Posted: 06 Dec 2021 04:31 PM PST Hi everyone! I've been lurking the issue for a bit today, but haven't been able to get this figured out. Just got my new MBP M1 Pro (16 inch, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD), and came home and noticed the computer was warm even though it was in sleep mode. Checked Activity monitor and "Top" in Terminal and noticed that WindowServer is running between 102-106% at all times. I unplugged my external monitor and shut down all apps and it made no difference. Does anyone know what this issue can be? Can it be damaging to the computer to have this running constantly? Would appreciate any help or advice! [link] [comments]
What is the best free Adblock? Posted: 05 Dec 2021 10:23 PM PST I have tried "Adblock for Safari", although it has been very lite, it doesn't block every ad, and even it does it also blocks other content that aren't ads. Does any one have any recommendations for any free ad blockers that are lite and actually function properly? Edit: for safari [link] [comments]

Can we talk about Safari - it's really become pretty awful Posted: 05 Dec 2021 09:23 AM PST I have just gone from a 12" MacBook to a 14" MBP running Monterey. These comments apply to all versions of MacOS for at least two years or so. I really like Safari, but man Safari doesn't make it easy! It is the flakiest browser - I use so many websites that don't load or don't display properly on Safari, yet are perfect anywhere else. It just behaves really badly and also canes memory like Chrome. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Edge is sooooo much better! If Edge could slide web pages back like Safari I would probably never give Safari another look. PLEASE APPLE - SORT SAFARI OUT! Multiple macOS installs, MDM and Privacy Posted: 06 Dec 2021 10:56 AM PST Hi! I'm starting a new job soon and my employer offers a company issued MBP 13" (M1). They also have a bring your own device policy but as long as I'm using it for work I will need to enrol it in their MDM system. I will be going for the latter option since I would very much like to use my 16" instead of a 13". Which brings us to the question of privacy – I would really like to keep work and home fully isolated and enrolling in their MDM system would give them access to my FileVault recovery key, which I don't really like. It's not that I don't trust them, but I don't feel comfortable with someone potentially being able to access all my personal data (when they have physical access to my Mac). So here's what I'm planning to do:
I have a few questions:
I will also be explaining this setup to their IT admins. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
