Posted: 29 Nov 2021 11:24 AM PST Has there been any update about this recently? It seems like people got amnesia and forgot about this feature that Apple announced back in June. It was supposed to be coming this fall, but we're practically in the Christmas season now. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about this. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Nov 2021 07:11 PM PST Today I was clearing random trash off my Mac and realise that the native Chess app is not removable. There is no option to uninstall when you control click, it cannot be dragged from launchpad into the bin. It cannot be removed I feel like this is somewhat irregular and check some forums and find it's a native part of the OS and has some attribute meaning it cannot be removed. I have attempted using CL to sudo rm rf it without any luck. Is there any work around or way to remove this? Thanks PS: I realise it's 7mb and not a real problem, but this just seems really weird to me and I wanted to raise the discussion. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Nov 2021 02:43 PM PST I'm looking to jump on the learn-how-to-code wave and start off pretty small learning some Python and eventually Swift. So I called a reputable computer store in my San Diego locale, and asked if it was worth upgrading my RAM, switching to a SSD and possibly switching the processor to an i7. At the moment, I'm more or less trying to dabble in coding and not make it a career move, at least not yet. Computer store employee basically tells me that the OS is too old, and that I'll be better off buying a newer Mac because most apps wont run on it anymore and I should of course, consider buying one of their used newer models. I'm not too concerned about apps, since I'm a pretty basic user(emails, browsing, Udemy, occasional Netflix) and need it to basically run faster and smoother. Is it worth upgrading? or does the upselling employee make a valid point? Sorry in advanced if this is a repeat question, but I couldn't find any specific answers. [link] [comments]
Export highlights or notes from Mac "Books" from PDF and EPUB Posted: 29 Nov 2021 07:31 AM PST Hi Team, I'm using Mac "Books" for all my private and university reading. I love it to Markdown text digital. Please tell me how to export this highlighted text (one by one or in an ideal world as a bundle). I know it's possible to copy and paste one by one on my iPhone/iPad but I don't know how to do it on my Mac- please help :) [link] [comments]
Getting out of Paid Evernote into...Notes? Notion? Onenote? (happy to pay for features/ease) Posted: 29 Nov 2021 06:58 AM PST I'm a 10 year evernote user. I'm looking for the best choice and something practical. I don't mind paying for something yearly - but it has to work. What do I mean by "Has to work"?
I have 4k some notes and I'm just tired of evernote (not happy with the development/paying attention to user needs/subscription creep) Alternatively, if you've seen a solution (even slow) that does work to get out of evernote? I'm all ears. Applescript? Bring it. Python script? Sure. Key things: * Fast lookup * Some level of tagging/notebooks * Intra note linking is unnecessary * Images embedded in Note * Access inside the Apple Ecosystem (obviously) and to a lesser extent on Windows/Web. * Shared notes would be a boon Truthfully, Notion is what I'd like - if their evernote feature worked. Shortcut to eject external drives when undocking Posted: 29 Nov 2021 07:22 AM PST I've just recently replaced my ageing iMac 27 with a new MacBook, external display and caldigit thunderbolt dock. I have a couple of external drives plugged into that doc that I only really need to use when it is connected. However when I unplug my laptop (to take it somewhere else) I either have to remember to eject the two external drives OR get annoying notifications when I do it. I had one thought which was to create a shortcut using the new shortcuts app, and there is an eject disk function however when I try to run the shortcut I get an error ossstatus -47. This seems to be disk busy (though I know the disk is not busy). Anyone know how I can allow disks to be ejected by a shortcut OR have another idea to allow for quickly undocking/disconnecting my laptop from the thunderbolt hub without having to eject individual disks? Weird "hide-unhide files" keyboard shortcut behaviour on Monterey Posted: 29 Nov 2021 02:36 PM PST if you make a quick search on google you can easily find that the shortcut cmd+shift+. (periot) hides and unhides hidden files on finder. but when I do that, it increases icon size to it max and then if I hit again it shows/hides hidden files. I know it's weird but just try it. It didn't seem to me as a feature nor a bug but sure is weird for a shortcut to act. Or as a second thought it must be a bug. My system language is Turkish if there's anything to do with that. Posted: 29 Nov 2021 05:36 AM PST Hello all, I have a big problem with OneDrive. I opened the app and it synced all the files I have (over 80 GB). Unfortunately I noticed this too late. Now I have no way to delete the files or I can't find them. I selected the option " Free storage " and now the folders are displayed with a cloud. But the space is still occupied or was not released. Is there a way to delete the files manually? I really need the storage space. [link] [comments]
Anyone having problem to see shared calendar from outlook in the calendar app? Posted: 29 Nov 2021 01:58 PM PST Anyone having problem to see shared calendar from outlook in the calendar app? The shared calendar works fine on my iPhone calendar app, after I add the account. somehow on macOS I cannot see the calendar at all in the calendar app. Anyone with any tip of how to fix it? Posted: 29 Nov 2021 10:09 AM PST I recently updated to Monterey and noticed that my Google Chrome window now auto-expands if I move it to the edge of my screen. Ugh! Super annoying for it to do this by default without any notification to ask me whether or not to allow this behavior. How do I disable this automatic window snapping? (it's on my secondary display) Apple UI Designers-- I don't want your janky, non-disableable window snap feature! I have my own Window Manager and it's much better than your forced UI-- it's The Rectangle Window Manager App, it's free, better than anything you've ever come up with for native window management, and guess what-- I can disable it! It doesn't abuse me as a customer by forcing me into certain UI functions. So fix Monterey and let me disable your Window Snap feature-- Stop messing up my workflow without my permission! *EDIT* Whoa whoa whoa-- Has Apple made the stupid decision to disallow disabling window snapping? I have to hold down option while moving windows to the edge of screen? Big Sur did not have this stupid functionality. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Nov 2021 01:51 PM PST I have an iMac, Core i5 3.4 27" display from late 2013 (iMac 14,2) with 32GB of memory running Catalina, 10.15.7. I've had drive problems because I was using Seagate 4TB drives and watching them wear out on a yearly basis. In February or March I put in a Western Digital ST4000DM004 4TB drive and it worked fine. (Well, at first, I cloned the dying drive to the WD, which was on USB, and, of course, things were slow until I took my iMac apart and put the WD inside it - then it was okay.) I don't want to go SSD, since I do use 3TB or so of my drive. Now, about 8 months later, in the past week, I have watched as my iMac has gotten so slow it is barely useable. I rebooted last night and this morning and it took a long time to load Chrome (which eats memory, as I've seen.) I'm limiting my Chrome windows and tabs. I've been using MakeMKV to rip DVDs, but even when it's not running, it's slow. Memory seems to be okay. I suspect the drive, since a lot of the delay comes in switching tasks - it can take 30 seconds to over a minute to switch a task now. EtreCheckPro says my computer is slow and mentions the drive, but when I hit "Review" (under "Major Issues") it didn't say anything much about the drive. I know this WD drive is slower than the Seagate I was using, but since the mid 1990s, my experience has been that Seagate drives don't last long and WDs do. So I switched brands because I got tired of a yearly drive replacement. (Let's not debate that point - I'm just telling you what's going on here.) Yes, I noticed the WD was a bit slower, but not much. But lately, for some reason, things are just bogging down and it can take forever to switch tasks or to open Chrome tabs or move to a different Chrome tab. It's in the switching from one thing to another that there are long delays. That's why I'm thinking there's something with the drive. It's got over 500GB free at this point, so I don't see how it can be a need of free space. SMARTReporter says the drive is okay. As I said, it wasn't like this until within the past week, when I noticed a slowdown. At that point, I closed a few Chrome windows and a lot of tabs, closed and restarted Chrome, and it didn't help, so I rebooted. That didn't help much, if any. Could this be a buffering issue? Or is there some other metric I can use to determine if there's a problem with the drive? How about settings I can change that will help the driver operate better? The drive is under warranty, but it's faster to order one from Amazon. I hope I don't have to replace the drive and I can't prove anything is wrong with it, but if someone can show me a way to determine that would fix things, I would. Or is there something else I need to look at? [link] [comments]
Help, after updating to Monterey MBP is unusable. Posted: 29 Nov 2021 01:46 PM PST Hello guys, recently updated to Monterey and I can that this is the worst update ever. My MBP 2020 4 thunderbolt is unusable: 1) trackpad bug - tap to click works 1 of 20 taps, lagging while scrolling and moving. 2) fan is making noises like Boeing (never heard my fan with Big Sur) 3) overheating like crazy (never got hot with Big Sur) 4) it's laggy and slow, something I've never experienced with Big Sur. I would like to downgrade to Big Sur, but I'm total noob, like 100% noob with IT things, I barely manage to update my MAC, so that's why I can't do it. I've read the re-install is kinda easily than downgrade, but still afraid to try. Any help/suggestion how to fix it will be appreciated, thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Nov 2021 01:42 PM PST The MacOS Keyboard Media Keys (F7, F8, F9) operate the active source. This means that if you're listening to music in Apple Music and then find yourself on YouTube, pressing the play/pause button (F8) does not operate Apple Music but instead controls YouTube. So to momentarily pause Apple Music and listen to YouTube audio, you have to go to Apple Music, hit pause, then go back to YouTube (which has already started playing so you have to rewind it to hear it from the beginning). There needs to be a way to hard-lock F8 to only operate Apple Music. High Sierra Media Key Enabler, later Mac Media Key Forwarder, used to do this. The GitHub suggest using Bearded Spice. I had been using that last year but it seems it's no longer working and the last update was in 2017. This has been a Edit: I found Karabiner-Elements and gave it a shot but evidently this also no longer works. I feel like I'm stuck using a Windows computer right now. Fuck you Apple for making things MORE difficult every year. [link] [comments]
Scan to Apple Notes trough USB-Connected-Printer/Scanner Posted: 29 Nov 2021 09:21 AM PST Hello, i know its possible to "Scan-Documents-to-Notes" trough an iPhone/iPad. OCR on the resulting documents works really well and they are full-text-searchable which is nice. I would love to have the possibility to scan to Apple Notes trough the Scanner in my HP-Printer (all-in-one). Is that somewhow possible and im missing the option? I know i could just scan the document to pdf/png trough the scanner and attach it to a note but there are some disadvantages: 1) Not the best workflow 2) Content of the resulting document is not searchable (no ocr for me) 3) Apple Notes classifies Documents with a scanned (trough iPad / iPhone) as a "note with a a scanned document". this classification is searchable. a simple note with an attached pdf falls not under this classification. Oh im on Monterey. Regards [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Nov 2021 12:25 PM PST Hello. My question is pretty much in the title. It is really annoying since fans are really going high for around this hour or so because of that process. I once already learned from Reddit that it is "Generic Security Service" and it has something to do with user auth, but I still don't understand why is it taking so much of CPU power, and what it is doing every second day in the exact same time?
