    The tab groups feature in Safari 15 is horrible compared to Chrome/Edge... Super inconvenient design IMO. Do you like it?

    I have a macbook air with only 256gb SSD. I take a lot of pictures and would preferably store them in the cloud. I like the way Apple Photos organises photos and also use it to edit photos with. I tried setting up iCloud yesterday but it just keeps synchronizing all my files and doesnt let me choose which files I want to keep on my laptop and which ones I just want to be in the cloud. Any ideas?

    Terrible performance when watching a video via web browser.

    I have a 2020 MacBook air. 1.1ghz quad i5, 8gg ram, on Big Sur 11.6.

    When playing a video in any web browser (chrome, ff, safari) performance tanks. Seems to be any kind of video stream. YouTube, Netflix, etc. Though I really only ever use it to watch a webcam stream from a raspberry pi. Not sure exactly what the webpage is using to stream the webcam.

    After some time, whatever is streaming starts stuttering and dropping frames, and I have to force quit the browser.

    Hello!

    I've got a M1 MacBook with UTM installed to run a kali linux vm and a windows 11 vm, but i might change to Parallels.

    The only thing i was wondering is how long will i be able to use Parallels 17 if i choose the one-time purchase version? How long does it take till it's not working anymore (maybe in years)? Because there will be a macOS version where Parallels 17 won't be supported anymore, right?

    Big Sur 11.6 Display Port issues - not seeing external monitor

    Any out there having Big Sur issues with not seeing a second monitor? I went from Catalina to Big Sur 11.6 on my 2018 Mac desktop and ever since my computer isn't seeing my external monitor. I've done everything under the sun to connect including purchasing multiple new monitors, cables, and ready every troubleshooting article I can grab. My brand new MacPro has no problems connecting to an external monitor, so I know it's not the connections or the monitor. Thoughts or help appreciated. Thank you!

    I bought an M1 MBA off of someone recently, and the transaction seemed to go smoothly. They did the reset and I was able to sign into my iCloud account to set up as a new device. I was later told by my friend of a potential activation lock that could've been set onto this MacBook. He said that if the previous owner had iCloud find location on then I won't be able to reset this computer due to the lock. Is this true? If so should I worry about this because I already signed in with my iCloud account.

    I have set "Remove history item - After one day", but my history keeps piling up over several days. They're never deleted. This is both for my Macbook and Mac Mini - Non are deleted.

    So, I love Now Playing on my iPhone/Apple Watch because, among other things, it let's me use my Apple Watch as a remote for whatever media is playing on my iPhone. It's also great on my Mac for playing/pusing/skipping my music without having to switch windows. However, Now Playing doesn't seem to work between all three devices as playing media on my Mac doesn't present me with controls for said media on my Apple Watch/ like it does when I'm playing media on my iPhone. Is there a way to get now playing to work between all 3 devices?

    "Ecoasia" suddenly became my default search engine on Safari (no extensions)

    I'm running vanilla Safari on vanilla macOS. I don't browse any strange sites, I don't install unsigned apps, I don't install apps that ask for permission to modify the HDD, the system and the apps are up-to-date and I don't use any extensions or addons whatsoever.

    For some reason and for no discernible reason, Ecoasia suddenly became my default search engine in Safari, just a few minutes ago.

    I've done the standard troubleshooting steps (including virus and malware searches) and I haven't come across anything yet.

    Does anyone know what's causing this, and how I can stop it?

    Safari 15.0 on M1 MBA (11.6) not remembering video settings on YT

    Is anyone else having an issue with safari 15 not remembering the theater mode setting on youtube? When I click a video and set it to be displayed in theater mode, quit Safari with Cmd + Q, and re-open safari, youtube goes back to the default view. I'm not fully sure if this is a bug when upgrading safari, but I don't ever recall this happening. I tested this on Chrome 94 and it remembers my setting as expected.

    I only installed 2 extensions on safari ever, "Ka-Block!" and "1Blocker", only having the latter now. I thought it might be because of 1Blocker but disabling it, uninstalling it, and trying again after clearing youtube cookies/caches did nothing so I'm not really sure now.

    M1 Air DisplayPort dummy plug not detected in macOS

    Has anyone had luck getting a dummy plug working on their M1 MacBook? I have one that works fine on my Windows desktop, but not on my MacBook Air. I first tried it plugged into my Thunderbolt 3 dock with no success, so I got a DisplayPort -> USB-C dongle, but still not working.

    I have been able to connect an actual monitor to my laptop just fine. It seems just getting the dummy plug to be detected by macOS as a display is the hard part.

    I have signed out and in and deleted all files in Library and preferences, Messages app still not showing any message from iCloud even all messages and db are downloaded. Any ideas?

    Need help with downgrading to Catalina on Intel mac shipped with macOS 11

    Hello! I just bought a new 2020 iMac (Intel) that shipped with Big Sur. I use a lot of older audio hardware that still isn't supported and that I need for work, so I decided to downgrade to Catalina out of the box (since the model originally shipped with Catalina and is compatible). I formated and erased Macintosh HD (and the Volume Group it belonged to) and installed Catalina from USB. It worked fine but now I have a spare drive named "Update". I've read that this may be due to Big Sur using a new APFS-structure and Catalina doesn't recognize that – and some users on here have stated that I need to do a complete wipe of the hard drive before installing Catalina. Any heads up on how to do this without fucking up Recovery volumes and such? Just go into Disk Utility and reformat the entire "Apple SSD" instead of the volume, and name it "Macintosh HD" and install it onto there? Would that mess something up with system partitions and whatnot?

    EDIT: I also have a greyed out "disk1s1" in Disk Utility now and diskutil list shows:

    1: APFS Volume (this is disk1s1 2: APFS Volume Macintosh HD - Data 3: APFS Volume Preeboot 4: APFS Volume Recovery 5: APFS Volume VM 6: APFS Volume Update 7: 6: APFS Volume Macintosh HD

    I take it this is the Big Sur APFS-structure. What is the easiest way to "downgrade the APFS" to the one fully compatible with 10.15?

    EDIT2: Clarification: I have already installed Catalina and it works. I have done complete wipes and reinstalls many times before on older macs, I just became a bit unsure of myself when these ghost volumes appeared after the downgrade. In a lot of threads it says that if one is to downgrade, one should do it "properly" and erase the entire drive. I would like to do that, to nor cause problems down the line. I just want to make sure I won't lose anything important system-wise doing it, that won't be rebuilt with the new Cataline install. I don't know what this could be, maybe something connected to the T2 chip, or the EFI or Recovery. Or some factory key/firmware that identifes the machine. Again, I'm not even sure if it's a problem, it's just that I'm not well-versed in newer macs or macOS versions, and I'm looking for heads ups. It's a new mac, I don't wan't to cause problems down the line for it, or void warranty. Also, when booted in the bootable USB drive, should i erase and repartition the APPLE SSD or the "Container disk1"?

    The 'create computer account' page in setup didn't respond and upon reboot the password isn't accepted even though I know it is 100% correct.

    I entered the recovery option and tried to reset password with the terminal which failed

    I selected recovery and then 'erase' and erased the SSD and it rebooted like it was supposed to and requested me to select Wi-Fi and type in password which I did to activate the Mac.

    Up to this point everything worked as it was supposed to but the problem comes now when I go to reinstall Big Sur it didn't allow me because I didn't have permissions so I tried again and no storage shows up to install Big Sur or in disk utilities.

    I just got a mid 2012 macbook with a wiped hdd and i want to make a usb installer on my windows pc so I can install MacOS on it. But guess what? I cant! because every time i try to flash the MacOS Sierra "InstallOS.dmg" file that i got from the apple website I keep getting "Compressed file is corrupted" on both "Transmac" and "balenaEtcher".
