Night sky photography vastly better on my 13 pro than my old 11 pro. Pic of Milky Way at my house.

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 09:36 PM PDT

Got my 13 pro max and started taking pictures of the sky off my deck to see the difference from my 11 pro.

Not sure if this all the big sensor or they made software improvements also, but the difference in visibility is pretty stunning.

Anyone else annoyed by how Safari 15 indicates which tab is currently active?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 07:53 PM PDT

It seems Safari 15 has inverted the colours of the tabs of which one is currently open/active. Is it just me or does this put anyone else off? It do get confusing at times; still not used to the change.

    Previous Version of Safari (v14)

Currently active tab lighter coloured than the rest: https://imgur.com/aiNArOP

    New Version of Safari (v15)

Notice how the first tab opened is indicated with a dark grey colour. and the rest are lighter: https://imgur.com/JDorTU8

Discovered a fun trick for Hide my Email

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 09:31 AM PDT

If you're online shopping at a website that offers a discount for new members, you can use the new Hide my Email feature to generate a random email that will forward to your actual email, and the website will not correlate the two. Good bye junk emails, hello much more organized new-member discounts! (I tested this on asos.com and it worked perfectly)/

iPad Mini 6 (2021) First Impressions

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 01:50 PM PDT

I've been using a 2013 iPad Mini 2 for the last 8 years. I'm not what you'd call a power user or anything. It was mostly used for streaming, ebooks, and FaceTime. It wasn't getting the new software/iPadOS updates and a lot of apps couldn't run the latest versions. And it was ridiculously slow. So when Apple finally did a full redesign of the Mini, I finally felt like I could justify the upgrade. I just got it yesterday and have been using it pretty extensively since then, so these are my initial impressions.

This thing is a rocket. 4GB of RAM doesn't seem like much when my MacBook Pro from 2015 is rocking 8, but compared to the 1GB of the previous Mini, this is a huge upgrade.

Videos load much more quickly and apps open almost instantaneously. The video quality is excellent with the Retina display and the (finally!) stereo audio sounds great for such a small platform.

I don't have an Apple Pencil, but it's nice that this has the charging functionality. I plan to get one to use it for some of the graphic design that I dabble in.

The gesture controls will take some getting used to. I keep trying to use a home button even though there isn't one.

I haven't encountered any of the jelly scrolling that people are complaining about, but the dock view in landscape has a lot of unused space. It seems like an odd choice to have everything confined to the middle. A software update may address it though.

All in all though, this is a great upgrade. If you're a Mini user, this is well worth considering.

BasicBeauty - Beauty Routines, Planner, and Diary

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 10:43 PM PDT

    Hello everyone,

Recently, I launched an app that helps to create, practice, and stick to beauty routines.

And after few weeks of polishing, getting feedbacks, and improving the app, now I feel that is time to share it in this subreddit.

    The key features are:

    Routines

    • Use preset routines for your health, face, hair, body, hands, and feet
    • Follow the basic skincare guide for your skin type
    • Customize any routines
    • Create your own routine
    • Plan your routines flexibly
    • Add your selfies and do a skin log every day

    Products

    • Add to the product list and link to your routines
    • Track product expiry date
    • Set timers for products that require a specific wait time
    • Write notes on your products

    Statistics

    • Clear overview of the habit formation process
    • Track changes over time comparing the before/after photos
    • Figure out which products & skincare routines work for you
    • Track how cosmetics, water intake and sleep duration influence your skin condition

Your feedbacks are more than welcome. If you have any thoughts on how the app might be improved/changed then I would love to hear that.

Phone Noise Cancellation Missing on 13 Pros

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 06:10 AM PDT

I have my 13 Pro Max and the phone is absolutely amazing.

Before I traded my 12 Pro into Apple, I went through all the settings to make sure they were exactly the same.

When I went through phone settings, I noticed there was no "Phone Noise Cancellation" option.

For example, here are the setting screens of each phone -

Is there a reason Apple choose to remove this feature from the new phones? I haven't seen this covered by any reviewers yet either.

Solution to Let's Encrypt certificate problem on older macs.

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 07:11 AM PDT

My problem is a laptop that maxes out at Yosemite.

    This https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/422332/how-do-i-update-my-root-certificates-on-an-older-version-of-mac-os-e-g-el-capi

    solution seems to work ok.

In a nutshell you export root certs from a currently supported mac, and import them on an older mac. Full directions in link.

Do we really need a pop-up telling us Do Not Disturb is active while screen recording?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 08:10 AM PDT

I mean c'mon, who really starts screen recording and go "Ah! Do Not Disturb is active? Nice! I like this pop-up" and the hitbox to close it is really small so you couldn't get it out of the way in time if you were trying to quickly record something. Just silently turn it on.
