USB C adapters on 2011 MacBook Pro

Is it normal that my M1 MBA is at 99% battery after 2 months of use? I use it everyday for work, and charge it to a 100 and discharge it to 20%

My brother lent me his 2014 MacBook. Is it possible to have multiple users so I can sign in with my iCloud? If so, will I be able to use Microsoft Office he bought and installed on his profile?

    Posted: 24 Aug 2021 09:06 PM PDT

Title has most of the info. My laptop got wet and my brother is letting me use his mid 2014 MacBook Pro until I buy a replacement around the holidays.

He has a ton of stuff and clutter so having a fresh profile with my contacts and access to my iCloud would be super awesome. He bought Microsoft Office and I would really like to be able to use it on my profile, but am not sure if that will work.

I don't know his password but it has just opened for me even after dying so maybe there isn't one. I can get the password if I need it, especially if I have to sign back into his account to use Microsoft Word.

I haven't asked for his password yet and he's asleep so I'm scared to signing out without knowledge and a plan to make a new profile of my own.

    • Is it possible to make a separate profile?
    • If so, how do I do it / what do I need?
    • Will I be able to use Microsoft Office from this separate profile?

I’ve found a deal for the base model M1 MPA (8gb , 256gb) for £900. Would this be good enough for ableton and rekordbox.

For those that got their macbook through UPS, how long did it take to get it after your package was in Louisville, KY?

    Posted: 24 Aug 2021 10:34 PM PDT

Hey everyone, ordered a macbook pro m1 16GB RAM/512GB SSD and it has an expected arrival date of 8/27 (this friday)

Currently my package is in Louisville, Kentucky which is apparently a UPS sorting facility. I'm in Los Angeles. For those of you that got it shipped to the US and had a similar tracking route to mine, how long did it take for you to get your macbook after it was in Louisville, Kentucky?

Has anyone had experience with UPS packages being delivered early ?

My tracking route: Shanghai —> Incheon —> Anchorage —> Louisville (Where it is currently)

    13” Pro M1 or 16” Pro i7

    Posted: 24 Aug 2021 05:08 PM PDT

work is getting it for me there's no cost either way.

Just wondering which one you'd recommend. I think I like the idea of the larger screen and ability for dual external monitors with the i7 if it's nearly as good in other regards but I can be convinced either way.

Is it the m1 was faster or better?

    M1 Air vs. M1 Pro

    Posted: 24 Aug 2021 11:43 PM PDT

Thinking of getting a laptop since I'm heading off to uni. Unfortunately, I can't decide which one to buy. With the air, I can definitely save quite a few $$$. The pro on the other hand, well, of course pricey, but that touch bar attracts me. Am I better off buying the air?

The displays on the new MacBooks are gorgeous

    Posted: 24 Aug 2021 11:25 PM PDT

Coming from a 2010 MBP it's like looking at a new world. It must be the true tone or whatever retina means but damn it looks nice. Blacks are super black and everything just looks amazing.

    Pick one for MBA

1st time macbook purchaser. Need help deciding whether to buy now or wait.

    Posted: 24 Aug 2021 06:31 PM PDT

I had fully committed to waiting for the new generation of chips to come out, not to mention the nice sounding design tweaks to the new 14" model. (I nearly went ahead and bought the 13.3" with the M1 chip.)

I knew that I'd end up paying retail. And up until today, I read rumors that the price might even go up a little from $1300. Today I'm reading from seemingly reputable sources that the price is going to go way up. Like up to $1800 for the entry level model.

$1800 is more than I can spend. And I'm concerned that if I don't get one now, the new models will replace the old ones and they won't be available any longer.

I plan to use it at my office. I won't be using it very heavily. Just word processing and light internet browsing. I would like to attach at least one monitor, ideally two. I also intend to use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

Help? Not sure what I’ve done here…

    Posted: 24 Aug 2021 04:51 PM PDT

So, I start college in literally a week so my cousin offered me her MacBook Air, bare in mind this MacBook is from around 2015 but I was still very appreciative as I didn't have to buy anything new. The MacBook was working fine until I tried to update it to its latest versions, it would refuse to update, I tried a numerous amount of times but still nothing. As this was happening I decided to factory reset the MacBook, I did this successfully, I did everything that I was meant to, erase the previous disk, install Mac OS, but Mac OS wouldn't install… I'm not sure why… and I'm not sure what I've done… it comes up with an error saying 'An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again', this is a new error warning to come up contrary to a previous one, I don't remember what that one said now unfortunately but I know it was along the same lines as the one I see now.

Does anyone know what I should do? Call Apple? Take it in store? Help ):

Desperate: buy used MacBook Air m1 for 850€ which was bought in December, or buy new MacBook for 950€?

    Posted: 24 Aug 2021 03:12 PM PDT

The used MacBook is in great condition. But the fact it was bought in December even if it was barely used makes me wonder if it is going to age quickly? I don't know it my logic makes sense, let me know which one you would go for!

Macbook Pro - asking for a solution to problem with battery

    Posted: 24 Aug 2021 03:11 PM PDT

Hello everyone! I don't know if this is the proper space to post macbook problems, but here I go.

I found my macbook (specs below) making some repetitive bip noises while charging (similar to the noise when it begins to charge) I found that strange and immediately turned the macbook on and noticed that it wasn't charging (and not showing the charging symbol, only battery level and percentage). I tested the charger with my phone and it's ok, so I guess the problem is the macbook or the battery itself. I also noticed after some use some overheat. I tried to find a solution (google of course), but none applies.

The only thing I can say is that while the charger is plugged in, the battery status is "Power source: battery", equal to without charger at all.

I hope someone can help me solving this problem, or can direct me to somewhere I can find a solution. I hope the battery isn't dead. Thanks in advance.

Specs: macOS Catalina version 10.15.7, MacBook Pro 13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports.

EDIT: I noticed battery condition is "normal", shown in "System Preferences > Energy Saver > Battery Health > Battery condition: normal"

I would like to see what your thoughts on whether I should get a M1 MacBook refurbished or just wait until they release the next iteration of the MacBook? I am also not new to the apple game but it has been a good Minute (2012 MacBook Pro around 2015-2016 OS) I am also not to worried about switching I have a Windows and Linux boxes. I mainly like the environment of Apple products and focus on productivity of Mac OS. I will be using as a daily driver for school and tinkering. Would really appreciate your thoughts.

TL;DR: Looking on guidance on whether or not to buy now or wait til October/November?

    Wait for the New Macbook?

    Posted: 24 Aug 2021 12:21 PM PDT

I currently have a windows laptop (13 inch) that has horrendous battery life. I was planning to use this for college but then i checked out the impressive m1 macbook air's functionality and battery life. I was planning to buy that but then heard rumors of a new chip like an M1X or M2 coming out soon. So should i hold out for the new macbook pro/air? Or just settle for the 2020 version?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    m1 macbook air 16gb vs m1 macbook pro 16gb

    Posted: 24 Aug 2021 10:33 AM PDT

Hello all, I currently have a surface laptop 4 for my epidemiology grad program, but it echoes in zoom calls (which is how I meet for work and classes), and also crashes sometimes and isn't as fast as a laptop should be in 2021 imo. I was wondering that if my uses are R Studio (coding software, which I would probably need 16gb ram for anyways), Ableton Live rarely (just for fun), Minecraft, but mostly web browsing, writing papers, etc., if the m1 air with 16gb would be fast/powerful enough for my needs or if I should get the pro. Its a couple hundred dollar difference so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Budget MacbookAir monitor

    Posted: 24 Aug 2021 08:30 AM PDT

I have recently purchased a base model 13" MBA.

With my previous 18" windows laptop I would snap windows to each end to create a split-screen to work, but with the MBA I'm finding myself straining to see the small text on either window clearly; therefore I am looking into connecting it up to an external monitor.

I tend to spend long hours looking at the screen but do not intend to use it for anything too creative or taxing like video, photo or gaming - it will purely be for studing and work.

I don't need anything fancy like a 4k curved screen or thunderbolt 3 connectivity - just a basic budget friendly monitor around the £200 mark that I can connect using USB-C and use for 2/3 years without hassle.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

I bought an M1 Macbook Air with 8 GB of RAM in January. Is there any way I can use Apple Care to pay to upgrade to a 16 GB Mac instead?

    Posted: 24 Aug 2021 08:18 AM PDT

So, first, I've been wanting to send in this Mac anyways because of the common M1 glitches people get. There's often little things that happen that I'm like "wtf this is still new".

But also, I thought 8 GB would be enough if I am just browsing the net. That's what everyone says online when this gets asked. All I do is have tabs open in Safari and have Notion in the background. What I didn't realize is that all the little thigns add up in the background, like Notion, f.lux, NordVPN, paste app, etc. etc. There's many little productivity apps I use that I guess just eat up the memory. So even though my main use is just "browsing the net" I end up getting notifications about my memory being low and suggestions to exit a certain tab on Safari.

Anyways, this sucks but what can I do? I realllly wish I knew this before.
