Posted: 02 Jun 2021 12:12 AM PDT I have a macbook pro that i got from work and i regularly watch netflix on it, but whenever i did my safari would crash so i decided to update the laptop and get Big sur (? I think that's what it said). When i restarted the laptop i noticed all the little icons and folders have a different look to them. To me, they are very ugly and i honestly think i prefered the laptop before Big sur. Am i the only one that does not like it? Is there any way to turn it back to the previous update?? Software for viewing camera (Camlink 4k) Posted: 02 Jun 2021 02:33 AM PDT So im thinking about buying a camlink 4k in order to play xbox on mac. The camlink 4k is capable of doing so and the video feed shows up as a webcam. Is there any "good" program out there that is pretty basic when it comes to viewing a webcam feed and also allows for switching the webcam itself (e.g. from imac camera to camlink)? How to know if Macbook Air (M1) is fully charged? Posted: 02 Jun 2021 01:33 AM PDT Just got myself an Macbook Air (m1) via work, and was wondering how i can see if the macbook is fully charged without starting up the entire laptop? My old laptop had some kind of led indicator that showed if it was fully charged, but i cant find one on my macbook air. And also, is there a way to get the macbook air battery indicator to my iPhone? Or perhaps get a notification on my iPhone when my laptop is fully charged? [link] [comments]

Exchange Contacts and Contacts App on Macbook not syncing Posted: 02 Jun 2021 01:18 AM PDT Hi everyone, Anyone faced with that problem - I used MS Exchange (MS365) contacts in my contact app on my MacBook, and after my company turned on the 2 step verification I had to delete this account on mac and add it again. The result is I can't see any contact in the contact app. It's empty even if I did the same operation on iPhone and Ipad where it works well. Any idea how to fix it? It's really annoying :( [link] [comments]
How to turn off iCloud on Mac without losing contacts......... Posted: 02 Jun 2021 01:01 AM PDT how to turn off iCloud contacts without losing contacts from Mac? (It does not ask whether to delete or save contacts like iPhone.) [link] [comments]
Wiped disk, internet recovery not working Posted: 01 Jun 2021 05:22 PM PDT Hi there fine folks! I had to wipe my disk and it seems like it has caused some trouble. Upon reinstalling the OS after wiping the disk, I got an com.apple.buildinfo.preflight.error error 10. I figured a restart might be a good way to start. To my horror, that only caused more trouble. Upon restarting (pressing command-R) I was thrown into internet recovery mode, which fails every time. I now get an 1008f error every time I try to fix it. Apple tells me that this is due to my Mac being locked in activation mode (Find My Iphone. That is not the case. I have totally deleted the Mac from I cloud). I have no other option then to select a WiFi when I press command-R. Is there any way to reinstall macOS with a harddrive when I can't access anything on the computer? Or am I completely f-ed here? Why does iCloud take up all my space on my MacBook? Posted: 01 Jun 2021 08:37 PM PDT So I have 2tb of storage on my iCloud and I have 256gb on my MacBook. I've got about 400gb in iCloud and it all seems to have downloaded onto my MacBook. It popped up saying I was running out of storage. Is there a way to change this? I was hoping iCloud would just download the stuff as I access them and clear them later. [link] [comments]
Catalina Preview.app autosaves even when 'Ask to keep changes when closing documents' is checked Posted: 01 Jun 2021 10:58 PM PDT Hello. I have an issue with the Preview app in macOS Catalina. My work mostly needs me to compile PDFs and sometimes they get rather large -- it can get up to 100 to 200 megabytes. When such situation arises, Preview automatically saves in the background. It does ask me if I want to keep the changes when I close, and that's fine, but I don't want it to keep autosaving as I add or remove PDF pages because it'll freeze for 5 to 30 seconds (depending on the size of the PDF), hindering my efficiency considerably. I searched for this problem and apparently there was a command line in Terminal that disabled autosaving in Preview but that no longer works in Catalina. Many posts were a few years back, and none were helpful. I'm not sure if it's only a hindrance due to my rather old MacBook -- MacBook Pro 15" 2012. Thank you in advance for any response. Deleting images in Photos doesn't remove them from external hard drive Posted: 01 Jun 2021 09:48 PM PDT I've imported photos stored on an external hard drive into my Photos library. When I delete images from Photos, even after I delete them from the recently deleted album, they remain on my hard drive. When I delete images directly from my hard drive, the image still remains in Photos! In Preferences, I left the box next to "Copy items into Photos library" unchecked. Is there any way to sync them so that when I delete images on my external drive, they no longer show up in Photos? Or vice versa? [link] [comments]

Is there any current macOS-native route planning/mapping/navigation software? Posted: 01 Jun 2021 04:58 PM PDT I haven't looked for this in years but we're traveling again. Right now, I'm navigating by pre-downloading maps to Avenza and Google Maps on iOS. The problem is, of course, that if I don't snag exactly the right areas in Google Maps I'm SOL and Avenza doesn't have a POI database to allow me to find local gas stations, grocery stores, etc. Avenza doesn't route at all and Google Maps can only do routing if it can contact the mothership and most of our national forests don't have wifi. Years ago, you could buy software that would download a large area map (state by state or national) that would include a POI database so you could find gas or food even without an internet connection. With a GPS dongle attached to the laptop, you could get real-time map following as well. I've got the GPS-fix aspect covered with a Garmin GLO, but as far as I can tell, good mapping/route planning software doesn't exist for the Mac anymore. Does anyone know of something that google just isn't showing me? [link] [comments]
Seriously what happened with Safari or just MacOS in general? Posted: 01 Jun 2021 06:48 PM PDT Does no one give a shit about developing functioning websites for Safari anymore or is it an Apple issue? 1) Websites freeze regularly 2) Websites reload randomly for high RAM/Power usage without my consent or the sites slowing down my computer in the first place. I can't watch any streaming service on Safari due to this. 3) Disney+ just doesn't work at all. 4) Using the swipe to go back feature either just won't work or it jumps back two pages erasing the previous page from memory, most commonly on YouTube and Google. 5) And worst of all if my Internet connection is poor, my entire computer is crippled, even 100% offline functionality slows down to the point I can't do anything. I'd have to disable my Internet to regain functionality. Why? I'm losing my mind lately and would love a usable OS and web browser set that functions reliably and doesn't limit my battery time to 10% of what it should be. Is it just for me? Posted: 01 Jun 2021 06:17 PM PDT I run Firefox in MacOS and I also run Little Snitch. All of a sudden tonight I started receiving Little Snick popups for connections on UDP (not TCP) port 443, going to various numeric IP addresses that all seem to be associated with Google in some way. I could not capture them all but here is a representative sample: 104.16.87.20 104.18.11.207 142.250.190.77 142.250.190.142 142.250.191.99 142.250.191.164 142.250.191.202 172.217.0.4 172.217.4.86 172.217.5.1 This ONLY happens while Firefox is open - if I close Firefox they go away. The first time I closed Firefox I got the upgrade but still got these popups. What I cannot figure out is why it is trying to connect to these addresses in the first place, and in particular why it is trying to use UDP protocol. Note that I have been running Firefox and Little Snitch on MacOS (and OS X before that) for years and have never seen anything like this happen before . Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? I'm a little freaked out, even though I did deny all of those connection requests! [link] [comments]
How do you reset Auto-Brightness to default on the M1 Air? Posted: 01 Jun 2021 06:53 AM PDT I know that on the iPhone you go to Accessibility>Display and text to reset the Auto brightness behaviour to default. But how do you do it on the Mac? Is simply turning it on and off from system preferences enough? [link] [comments]
iMac freezing since Big Sur 11.4 update Posted: 01 Jun 2021 05:57 PM PDT I am having a very annoying issue and don't know what to do next. Since I updated to 11.4, my computer often freezes and most of the time, it comes back. However, sometimes, it will bring me to the log-in screen. It's really weird and random. It will bring a spinning beach ball and sometimes the entire screen will freeze, sometimes some apps will freeze but I can use other apps. For example, when I am playing music from the Music app, it will cut out. However, I can play videos on YouTube on Chrome. The system is iMac Retina 27" 2017, 32GB of RAM, and a 2TB Fusion drive. This is what I have tried so far.
The interesting thing is when I check the iStat menu, right after it stops freezing, it shows that the processor is down to near zero activity. The memory is only at half use so I don't think it's the memory. It does seem that networking is not working well but I am not sure if that is the problem since things like Music play music from a local source. I am at a complete loss of what to do next. Any suggestions other than contacting Apple? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
