| MacBook Pro keeps crashing during sleep after Big Sur 11.3 update Posted: 02 May 2021 08:38 PM PDT So this is kind of a specific problem, but it wasn't happening before the update so am not sure what's going on. My MBP 2015 has had battery draining issues (actually many other people have as well apparently) so I found a fix a couple months ago which was to change my hibernation mode from 3 to 25 as described on [https://www.lifewire.com/change-mac-sleep-settings-2260804](here) This was the perfect solution as my Macbook would sleep with 100% battery and wake up with 100% 8-10 hours later. Compared to it draining 10-15% which was getting really annoying. However after the 11.3 update it seems my Macbook would kernel crash when it sleeps, so I changed the hibernation mode back to 3 and it stopped ever since. And when I put it back to 25 it crashes again, so I know its got to do with the '25' mode. I also suspect it has something to do with the fact that I keep an SD card permanently inside the reader because when I read the crash report it starts with this: panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff80047d5f07): "comapple_driverAppleUSBCardReaderDriverNub::setPowerState(0xffffff9348611000 : 0xffffff8005796074, 1 -> 2) timed out after 30490 ms"@/System/Volumes/Data/SWE/macOS/BuildRoots/2288acc43c/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/xnu/xnu-7195.101.1/iokit/Kernel/IOServicePM.cpp:5382 And sure enough, I noticed that when I put my Macbook to sleep with the 25 mode, and wake it up 5 minutes later, it would be fine, but as SOON as I open up a file loaded on my SD card it would kernel panic again. Posted: 03 May 2021 01:31 AM PDT Hey, a few months ago I ordered the Xbox One S controller (with Bluetooth, model 1914) for my Mac mini with the M1 chip, which should now be supported by 11.3. I accidentally ordered the wrong model, but only noticed this later when the Mac mini arrived. Fortunately, by that time there was already a rumour of support for this new controller, so I thought I'd just wait for the update and everything should work. Well, the update is here, the controller is recognised, but for most of the games I want to play, the controller is not recognised at all or the mapping is wrong. It seems Apple did not updated the interface that tells games which buttons was pressed, to account for the new controller, but created a new one (?). Most of the games I want to play won't get updates for it, which means I have a brand new controller that is useless to me. So I'm looking for a new controller that should have been supported for a while and will probably be supported for the next few years. Any recommendations? Tl;dr: Controller is not working as expected and I need some recommendations for good supported controllers for macOS to play some old and new games. [link] [comments]  | ||

I boot up the machine in Recovery Mode, and takes forever to read the disks in the Disk Utility and after that when i tried to restore the portable hard disk from the Macintosh Hd, there is an error with no message and doesnt allow the process to begin. I can generally do this manually but have hundreds if not thousands of songs, I want the music video from Apple Music cause I can play them on my Apple TV on our deck, instead of just having music. I tried everything from Wipr to AdGuard, but nothing seems to work. I tried to disable all my other extensions to make sure nothing was blocking it, restarted safari and the mac, reinstalled the application, made sure in safari settings it allowed content blockers, etc. Does anybody know a solution to this? Since one of my games gained popularity people started to complain it doesn't work on their iPads as expected. Because Apple company doesn't allow to see the console output on iPad, so a person needs to plug it into big brother running macOS. I am considering buying the cheapest iPad (2020) and something running High Sierra.But I have not much money, and I already have a laptop which suits me well. | Mystery keyboard shortcut set - Can't find in preferences or undo Posted: 02 May 2021 09:04 PM PDT So I have no idea how this happened, but somehow my right ⌘ key got set to trigger mission control on its own, no modifiers or anything. I have obviously checked my keyboard shortcuts and mission control shortcuts, all are set to default and it is still an issue -- basically I have two separate shortcuts for mission control, no matter what I set it to in system preferences, right "⌘" will always trigger it. I feel ridiculous posting this, as I've used Macs for nearly 2 decades, but short of doing a fresh OS install, I'm out of ideas. Are there any options I could have overlooked that could have set this shortcut? Any settings hiding somewhere deep in system preferences I could have missed? Checked the 'keyboard" and 'mission control' sections throughly. At first I was thinking it could have been Alfred in the background, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Can't think of any other app that could have been used to set a system-wide shortcut like that. Anyone out there feel like taking a shot? | Aliases stripped of their custom icons in Big Sur Posted: 02 May 2021 04:50 PM PDT Just upgraded to an M1 MBA, and now all of my aliases in the Finder — old and new — display the generic icon for their file types instead of displaying the custom icon of the target file. Example: I have a folder called "Bills," which has a custom icon of a filing cabinet instead of the generic blue folder — but any alias of this folder (pre-existing or made right now) gets the generic blue-folder icon. In Get Info, the Preview image is of the custom icon, but the image in the upper left is generic. I have booted in Safe Mode. Doesn't help. Is this a known bug or is it just me? If I copy-paste the custom icon onto the alias, it does take, but it no longer includes the curly corner arrow indicating it's an alias (also, it increases the alias's file size from 4kb to ~1MB+). Additionally... • Copied icons from Get Info often can't be pasted anywhere — not on another Get Info window, not into Preview • Files with custom icons from other computers are stripped of their icons when copied to MBA And... • It's impossible to add a custom icon to any folder or document without adding 500-1000kb to the file size (doing the same thing in 10.13.6 added maybe 100kb). Posted: 02 May 2021 04:30 PM PDT It has been a long frustrating 24 hours trying to fix my laptop, speaking with 5 different apple support people on online chat with no success. Model: MacBook Pro, late 2013. A little background: I was using my laptop as normal during the day and shut it down after I was done using it and went about my day. When I wanted to use it again later that day, I turned it on and had a black screen. I did all the recommend apple stuff like reset SMC, NVRAM etc..When I started up again, it seemed to work and I had my login screen and when I logged on my main user account, the loading bar just froze at around 80%; I tried over and over with no success. After some research, I decided to try in safemode. In safemode, my laptop worked perfectly fine with no problems. At this time, I thankfully backed up all my data via time machine. After that, I did all the recommended stuff like - create new user, remove all start-up things etc.. Now when I tried again in normal mode, same story, progress bar frozen when I try to login. When I tried the guest account it worked - although I can only use safari in it, so pretty useless as I don't have access to any of my files. I contacted apple support via chat and was told to do the same things I done. However, went down the route of going into recovery mode (command+R) and into disk utility and first aiding the "Macintosh HD" and "Macintosh HD - Data". All operation successful. Ok seems fine? Wrong. Starting back up in normal mode, same issue. To cut to the end without mentioning all the obstacles in the way and to keep this as short as possible; Many many..many hours later after exhausting all options such as restoring macOS through command+R, updating the software in safemode to latest OS etc...,nothing. Internet mode recovery etc..shift+alt+command+R, erase, reinstall .. 4 times...etc I've done all options recommended by the support staff. Ok this leads to now, I have a fresh install of macOS Sur. Normal start-up and I'm stuck with this screen: https://imgur.com/a/rtlZgOC Sometimes after restart, it goes past the screen and I get the setup screen where I can choose my keyboard type, language, region etc..and then everything freezes (https://imgur.com/a/FJCwXNU). I've done a hardware check by pressing 'D' during startup and have "No issues found". Ok good sign at least. Interestingly, I can boot into safemode and go through the setup, albeit it's VERY VERY laggy, but it works eventually and once I get to the desktop, everything works perfectly without lag🤯 However, still can't make a normal user account. So I contacted apple support again..erased+factory reset etc through shift+alt+command+R - exhausted all options again for the 100th time. Interestingly, when I check my macOS recovery (command+R), I now have two "Macintosh HD - Data".. https://imgur.com/a/wjMOfSg This has been a frustrating journey and no luck 😆 Can anyone help!?
