popup saying "ash wants to control system" after uninstalling app Posted: 14 May 2021 09:45 PM PDT So today i uninstalled an app called bluestacks that i haven't opened in a long time. Right after i put in my password to uninstall, i got a popup saying "ash wants to control system events" or something along those lines. i didn't click on anything and immediately restarted my computer. So far nothing seems compromised but i'm freaking out. Does anyone know what it's about? [link] [comments]
Is there any setting to autohide the Dock and show only on Desktop? Posted: 14 May 2021 09:43 PM PDT Coming from Linux, I am used to Plank (Dock alternative), which have a autohide setting called IntelliHide. If ON, it autohides the Dock only when a Window comes upon it, ie. whenever you're on the Desktop, the dock is visible. Is there a similar option available in Mac Os Big Sur? Or any hack to do that? Kaspersky just told me that Music wanted access to my webcam. Posted: 15 May 2021 01:11 AM PDT I had Music opened and it happened when I clicked on "Radio" at the sidebar. Any idea why Music wants to see me? [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 May 2021 09:23 PM PDT I prefer Catalina over Big Sur. And I understand the benefits of security updates of macOS. But can I get by till 2024 using an antivirus? [link] [comments]
I don’t know what’s going on with my new Mac Mini is it flickering or resolution trying to change? Posted: 14 May 2021 07:02 PM PDT I recently updated to the Big Sur 11.4 Dev beta 3 I believe, whichever the current beta is and it seems like my mini wants to change resolution or the video is flickering? I can't really describe it. Enclosed is a video of me watching a video on YouTube and you'll just see [link] [comments]
Macbook Remote Desktop Connection Integration Posted: 15 May 2021 12:49 AM PDT Sorry, wrong page, crossposted to r/osx Morning, all, I run a Macbook Pro, on Mojave, and I regularly connect to a work server using Microsoft Remote Desktop. (I can't find a page for that, but if this post needs moving, please tell me...) Copying and pasting files from the remote desktop to my laptop is clunky and a bit slow, but it is possible. I wonder if there is a way to integrate the remote desktop into the finder (Go - Connect to Server). If not, no worries, as the way I have now works, but as I said, it's a bit clunky! Thanks in advance, Ed [link] [comments]
MacOS is not designed to be controlled with keystrokes in order to fasten up work? Posted: 15 May 2021 12:15 AM PDT I am only a mechanican enginner in an eastern european country where having apple device is still a status symbol, although I own a recent ipad mini for internet browsing and an XR from the employer for work. Due to my profession I use poor mans PC (aka windows) --- (for heavy CAD projects) I lived at a girls house for a couple months and I did some translation work (side gig) on her unibody macbook because my laptop was inacessible (my house was being renovated and I closed the laptop in a closet). What I experienced was that I had to click on pretty much everything, small icons on the screen. No lighting fast keystroke control, like mapping the ESC key to one of the extra mouse buttons, for closing small dialog windows in a microsecond. And anyways, using mouse with a laptop computer is out of the etiquette, right? Obviously, using the over engineered touchpad and its gimmicks, and the user interface fluidity make it an enjoyable process of locating and clicking on these icons and this all makes the user somewhat happy but these are not directly related to the actual work being done on the computer. I like to have muscle memory for keystrokes and shortcut, but reaching the F keys is indeed not possible on a macbook with touchbar because there is no tactile feedback. This is especially strange when you use software like autocad. This "simple and natural" control is indeed an excellent choice when you have to sell your product with strong feelings attach to it, but I lack the practicality from the user experience. But from the outside all these user interactions looks like a senior using a computer for the first time. Locating everything slowly and clicking on them. I would rather use a multitude of homebrew utilities to speed up user interface control rather than using a computer in a fashionable way (a very specific thing for apple products)....obviously apple could make an user interface intended for autistic professionals but they would no benefit much from that. They must appeal to the masses (and for not the best of the best as it is always emphasized in the commercials) [link] [comments]
Outlook contacts not showing in MacOS contacts Posted: 14 May 2021 11:58 PM PDT I'm using MS Outlook to access my Microsoft 365 and my Gmail accounts. Both accounts have plenty of contacts. But when I open MacOS contacts the Outlook folder is empty and the only few contacts I can see are from my iCloud account. Any idea how to get that right? [link] [comments]
No adblocker currently working for blocking Youtube ads in Safari Posted: 14 May 2021 03:48 AM PDT So my current adblocker (1blocker) suddenly stopped blocking YouTube ads, so I installed Wipr after hearing good reviews. But that didn't work either, and after installing several other adblockers (Adblock, Adblock Plus, Adguard, etc.) none of them seem to be blocking Youtube ads properly? My girlfriend has no issues with Youtube ads when using Wipr which is very perplexing. Anyone have any potential fixes or experienced something similar? [link] [comments]
Problems running the 10.6 update. Posted: 14 May 2021 10:18 PM PDT I have an old MacBook running the first version of OS X it shipped with (10.5) and would like to update it to 10.9 (I do not like 10.10 and newer), however when I boot of of the 10.6 DVD (you need 10.6 before anything else (because of the App Store)), it tells me something like "OS X cannot be installed on this disk. Mac OS X cannot startup from this volume" or something like that. Everything I have read told me to resize the partition and revert it, however I do not wan't to mess with the partition table because I have a Windows partition. On a side note, can anyone tell me where I can get the boot camp drivers for the Mac (MacBook5,2), because Leopard does not have a download device drivers option (only an install drives from the DVD that came with your Mac (I do have that, however they are extremely old drivers for Windows XP that do not support the Aero theme)). Posted: 14 May 2021 01:24 PM PDT I haven't updated my Mac because I've always thought it would ruin it. After two years I got bored on a Sunday and updated to Big Sur. I don't know what I expected but I didn't expect my battery to die. It simply won't charge. It keeps showing the symbol of a battery loading even though it isn't. Before the battery died the keyboard kept writing with double letters. Sometimes the battery would charge, sometimes it wouldn't. And then one night I forgot to charge it and the battery went under 5 %. After that it wouldn't charge. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]

Posted: 14 May 2021 09:45 AM PDT Every time I open a new window I double click the top bar and/or drag out the corners so the window takes up the full screen. Is it possible to force windows to always do this? I've tried googling this a number of times over the years I've been using MacOS and never found a solution. It seems crazy though, I can't be the only one who always wants things maximised. Note I'm looking to only maximise the windows, not put them in full screen mode. [link] [comments]
Battery Life Since Latest Update (Intel MacBook Pro) Posted: 14 May 2021 10:15 AM PDT Is it just me, or has battery life gotten worse since the last update? Im using the 2020 MacBook Pro 13 (10th Gen Intel i5). [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 May 2021 09:17 AM PDT Ever single time I have an issue where clicking on my Mac in the AirDrop menu on my iPhone (iPhone X on iOS 14.5) or on my iPad (Pro 9.7 inch on iOS 13.4) does nothing. The button acts as if I never even clicked it. If I open the airdrop menu completely and click on the Mac, it says "Waiting..." indefinitely. I used AirDrop 1-3 times a day for 7 weeks with no issues. I didn't change anything , this randomly started happening. The only thing I can think of is that Big Sur 11.3 came out around the time I remember this issue starting to happen, but I didn't update to it yet. I am still running 11.2.3 (Also, 11.3 doesn't list anything fixing this in release notes) [link] [comments]

Posted: 14 May 2021 08:36 AM PDT I`m using my MacBook Pro with Apple silicon for about a week, I always was a fan of OS X, but only now managed to get it. I really want to test older versions of OS X, like Snow Leopard, Mountain Lion. Mavericks etc, Can anyone tell me how can I manage to run then on QEMU or something using Apple M1 ? I searched a lot and is hard to get information specifically about M1 and Old OS X emulation [link] [comments]
