4 Quick tl;dr iOS Game Reviews / Recommendations (Episode 87) Posted: 21 May 2021 05:43 AM PDT Happy Friday! :) I'm so glad to be back from my small vacation last week, and I hope you'll enjoy this latest episode of my weekly gaming recommendations based on the most interesting mobile games I played last week. Also did a (hopefully) fun video about Facebook's predictions for the future of mobile gaming last week, in case you're interested. This week's episode includes a high-quality single-player sci-fi action shooter, the best solitaire game I've played on mobile, a new text-based simulation farm RPG, and a WW2-themed FPS with a large single-player campaign! Disagree with my opinion? Let's have a friendly discussion below. New to these posts? Check out the first one from 87 weeks ago here. The games are "ranked" somewhat subjectively from best to worst, so take the ranking for what it is. Let's get to the games:Implosion - Never Lose Hope [Game Size: 2.1 GB] (PAID - $1.99)Genre: Action / Shooter / Sci-Fi - Offline Playable Orientation: Landscape Required Attention: Full tl;dr review: Implosion – Never Lose Hope is a high-quality level-based sci-fi action game by Cytus and DEEMO developer Rayark – and it's one of the best games within the genre on mobile. With a left-side joystick and right-side buttons for normal attacks and abilities, we hack and slash our way through hordes of alien enemies in each level using a huge blade as our primary weapon. Together with the awesome combo attacks, smooth animations, and dark and gritty universe, this fast-paced combat creates a fantastic gameplay experience that feels slightly Doom-inspired. As we progress and uncover more of the game's story, we unlock new skills for our character, and can equip better Arks, which are permanent stat boosters that we get from completing levels. This helps us complete the increasingly tougher levels and enemies. The touch controls are nicely calibrated, but Bluetooth controllers are also supported. The graphics have aged well and the game's entire story, including all conversations, is even fully voiced with excellent English voices. Implosion is a $1.99 premium game and it's an inexpensive gem of a mobile game that anyone fond of the genre is very likely to enjoy. App Store: Here Faerie Solitaire Remastered [Total Game Size: 99 MB] (free 4-day trial, $9.99 for full game)Genre: Card / Casual / Solitaire - Offline Playable Orientation: Landscape Required Attention: Some tl;dr review: Faerie Solitaire Remastered is a high-quality solitaire card game ported from PC, featuring lots of content, several fun game modes, and a pet system that gives it an almost RPG adventure feel. In the normal adventure game-mode, every level consists of 9 games of solitaire. Our objective in each of these games is to clear the entire board of cards by tapping cards that are either one higher or lower than the face-up card in our deck. If we're stuck, we can tap our deck to draw a new card. If we haven't emptied the board by the time our deck is empty, we lose the game and move on to the next one. To make the gameplay more interesting, the game features several RPG-like elements, including cards that need to be unfrozen by tapping fire cards, or an entire row of cards that are locked until we remove the plant whose roots keep it in place. Between levels, we can even hatch and raise new pets, or spend the currency we earn from playing levels on unlocking permanent power-ups. Faerie Solitaire Remastered is free to try but asks you to pay $9.99 if you want to continue playing the game after a 4-day trial. Surprisingly, nothing prevents you from continuing to play for free – but please support the developers if you enjoy the game. It's a one-of-a-kind solitaire game with a neat, simplistic, art-style, and a gameplay experience I think any fan of casual card games will enjoy. App Store: Here Farm RPG [Game Size: 54 MB] (free)Genre: RPG / Text-based / Incremental - Requires Online Access Orientation: Portrait + Landscape Required Attention: Little tl;dr review: Farm RPG is a new cross-platform text-based RPG with simulation-like gameplay by Titan Conquest indie developer Magic & Wires. The game puts us in control of a small farm from which we can plant seeds to grow crops, craft new items, go fishing, or explore the surrounding areas for crafting materials. Fish and crops can be sold in town for silver that we in turn use to buy new seeds or upgrade and expand our farm to become more efficient. There are multiple other options at town as well, such as depositing silver at the bank to gain a daily interest of 1%. Every time we complete an action, we gain XP in that profession, which gradually lets us access new areas and items – a bit like in Melvor Idle. Some aspects of the game are semi-idle, such as growing crops after we've planted seeds, while areas such as fishing and exploration require active play. This mix creates a nice sense of constant progression. While the game is still early in development and would benefit from additional skills and gameplay elements, it already has a friendly community that we can engage with via a chat, and the fun core gameplay loop is promising. Farm RPG monetizes through iAPs for a premium currency that we also earn some of for free by completing achievements. This currency can be used to enable quality-of-life upgrades and increase our progression speed but is never necessary to enjoy the game. Overall, Farm RPG is a neat casual game that mixes farming and RPG gameplay elements to create a unique text-based experience. App Store: Here World War Polygon: WW2 shooter [Game Size: 520 MB] (free)Genre: Shooter / Action - Requires Online Access Orientation: Landscape Required Attention: Full tl;dr review: World War Polygon is a WW2-themed first-person shooter with a large single-player campaign, daily zombie-shooting missions, and real-time multiplayer. As we play through the campaign that starts on D-Day in 1944, we gradually unlock over 20 unique weapons and multiple armor pieces and grenades from loot boxes. These items can all be leveled up by acquiring enough of their parts, and before entering a level, we customize our character by equipping a helmet, a west, and the three weapons we deem most relevant for the mission. The game is overall very well-made and progressing through the single-player campaign is surprisingly fun. The only downside is that the multiplayer game mode is dominated by high-level players who already have the best weapons and gear, which means competing in multiplayer is only possible at endgame. The low-poly art-style allows the game to run on most devices, and the sleek UI is easy to navigate and doesn't clutter the entire screen during combat. I encountered a few glitches in the single-player campaign, but nothing game-breaking that took away from my enjoyment of the game. The controls work decently, but I did experience a few miss-clicks here and there. World War Polygon monetizes through frequent ads after finishing a level, which can be removed through a $3.99 iAP. Although additional iAPs up to $19.99 allow you to progress faster, the game can easily be enjoyed as a free player. Thankfully, there is no energy system. Posted: 20 May 2021 05:52 PM PDT I'm a sucker for a good Tower Defense game, especially when it is available on mobile. I am always on the lookout for new releases in the genre. That's why I had to take the plunge on Infinitode 2 when I saw it hit the App Store! I have been playing it this week and wanted to share my thoughts with you guys in a brief review. I cover these points:
If you have already played Infinitode 2, please feel free to leave your thoughts down below! Also, I'm curious... what are y'all's favorite Tower Defense games on mobile? I'm excited to participate in the discussions that ensue! Thanks! [link] [comments]
errors with divinity original sin 2: frustrated Posted: 20 May 2021 04:34 PM PDT The game is great so far, but I am unable to make it off the ship Installed on a 2020 iPad pro with a couple hundred gig left free I get to the lifeboat, the ship is destroyed, then get a message that the game needs to download 2 gb of data and i need to free up space and then it restarts from the main screen I cannot make it any further any suggestions? Darrin EDIT: i removed the app, reinstalled and started again same issue [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 May 2021 06:42 AM PDT Currently grid only seems to allow graphics to be toggles between power saver on and off, with no way to get above 60fps. Super annoying. I get the feeling this will be part of a long list of games that just won't take advantage of the m1. Edit: Ocean Horn 2 also suffers from a 30fps lock, with no options to change graphics settings [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 May 2021 12:51 AM PDT Are there any games that let you continue from different platforms? For example, you play on ios, and then continue on the mac, progress some and the continue on ios. Something like multiplayer ccgs (e.g. Gwent or Heartstone). But are there are any single-player? There are plenty of ports, but I don't usually see these options. [link] [comments]
Searching for some good Rogue-lites. Posted: 20 May 2021 12:26 PM PDT Hi there, I am looking for some good rogue-lites to play when I got half and hour to spare. I already played binding of Isaac and enter the gungeon on pc and that's what got me hooked. Dead Cells and exspecially lovecraft untold stories look really really good but are a bit too expensive for my taste. Anything else you could recommend? [link] [comments]
Disappointed my iPhone 12 Pro Max can't handle MHA The Strongest Hero at max graphic settings Posted: 20 May 2021 05:15 PM PDT Idk how many of you guys are playing this game currently, but running the game on max settings at a full charge for merely 5 minutes and I'm already experiencing throttling, a hot phone, and in-game warnings about needing to lower settings. Don't know if this just means my 12 Pro Max can't handle the game or if the devs haven't optimized the game well enough. I know the iPhone isn't technically a gaming machine but why give the graphics options if the phone can't handle it? [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 May 2021 11:50 AM PDT Looking forward to getting DOS2 on my iPad. How much space does it take tho once installed? [link] [comments] |
