    My wife just witnessed one of the Apple TV 4k devices turn on by itself and a bit later a code showed up on the screen and then it said successfully linked with an iPhone 12. Unfortunately I wasn't there to see it in person. My wife has an iPhone 11, there are no iPhone 12 devices in this house.

    I went into the settings and didn't see any unknown devices linked. Pulled the plug on it for the moment.

    What the heck, any legitimate explanation for this?

    Siri Remote Question

    My question is can one Siri Remote control two or more ATV's? And if so do I have to set them up? I'm looking at buying the new Siri Remote and use it on both my ATV's in the home. (Both are Apple TV 4K's)

    Has anyone gotten around “unable to measure” with Color Balance?

    I was able to get my ATV to start the color balance procedure with my projector by covering the front of the phone with white tissue paper and facing it toward the projector, but it fails once it gets to the white color in the sequence, saying "unable to measure".

    Has anyone figured out a way around this error?

    HBO MAX closed caption controls problem

    I have HBO Max using AppleTV. Somehow the closed captioning got turned on (cat probably sat on the remote) and I can't turn it off. When I looked for a solution online it said I should go to settings/accessability, but there is not setting or accessibility function I can find. I checked the AppleTV settings and closed captions are off. Only HBO Max is doing this. AppleTV+, Paramount+, Amazon Prime etc. don't show subtitles. Does anybody know how I can regain control over closed captioning on HBO Max?

    How do I watch Apple TV+ on android phones?

    My only iOS device where I can watch Apple TV+ originals Is on my iPad. Is there any way I can watch on android phones? I have tried watching on their website but It's asking me for a payment method even If I'm already subscribed and and already link a payment method.

    AppleTV playing music with screen/backlight off

    i have severe photophobia and i'd love to use an AppleTV to listen to music while i'm resting, and watch shows sometimes when i'm up for it. but because they lack a separate audio output, it seems like AppleTVs could not run with the display itself turned off, even just to play audio. i saw that there is an accessibility feature for light sensitivity that allows adjusting display brightness but no indication if you can use it to actually turn off the screen/backlight while still getting the audio playback, like you can do from a computer.

    i would love to leave the display off most of the time and use casting from my iphone, siri voice control, or even just turning the display on occasionally to pick a playlist or start a podcast. has anyone done this sort of thing?

    Controlling AppleTV from iphone and not having the stream go through the iPhone

    Can I use my iPhone to search for music via Apple Music, play a youtube video etc and then have the data stream not have to route through my phone? I'd rather not use the appleTV's remote,. For example, could I say "Siri, play XYZ on my apple TV". And then power off my phone. And the music would still stream through the apple TV.

    Home Sharing Screensaver only showing limited photos after tvOS 14.5

    Long story short, I've been using Home Sharing forever, its a relatively large folder of ~6000 photos, and AppleTV hasn't ever had an issue pulling from the folder randomly. It's a nice way to see memories over the years.

    After the tvOS update though, it's only showing the most recent ~200 or so photos and nothing more. I've set the screensaver to something else and back, I've restarted the AppleTV, and nothing seems to fix it.

    Anyone have any solutions?

    Apple ecosystem value proposition over built-in Roku TV

    I'm thinking of buying a new TCL 6-series and was considering grabbing a new Apple TV 4k as well, since I'm pretty much all-in on the Apple ecosystem for everything else (Apple Music, Homepods, iPhone, iPad, Mac, etc.). Having a really hard time justifying it though since Roku TV (which TCL uses as their OS) is probably the best built in smart TV OS out there. Just curious if people think the ecosystem benefits (better Fitness+ and Music integration, I guess Apple Arcade since I've technically got that as well) as well as any other features I'm not thinking of are worth the $180 premium when the TV already comes with a very decent OS out of the box?

    Obviously there's no objectively correct answer here, and personally I'd buy it without a second thought if the TV came with like Web OS or something, but I'm just wondering if other people have made the decision and fount it worthwhile or not.

    Anyone having problems with iOS remote app after update on AppleTV?

    Have three AppleTVs. Master Bedroom - model A1625 64GB updated Family Room - model A1625 32GB - updated TV room - not updated have not checked yet - based on family room issues.

    Master Bedroom works fine no issues with my iPad, iPhone, or my wife's iPhone.

    Family Room - when we select the family room device in the iOS app in all three above mentioned iOS devices the check mark shows up. It sits at that screen for a bit and then the Remote app crashes.

    I deleted and then re-paired my iOS devices and that did not help.

    Thoughts ?

    New Siri Remote, Free Shipping Now?

    I ordered two Siri remotes (separate orders) within 10 minutes of preordering going live Friday morning.

    One order I was charged $8 for shipping (like most of you).

    Second order 10 minutes later wasn't charged shipping.

    Both have the same ETA.

    Currently it's listed as free shipping.

    AppleTV HD Model Picture Question.

    Just purchased the HD version to get around blackouts for MLB and NHL. I additionally have a roku connected to the same TV. The Apple TV picture is no bueno compared to the Roku in both color (washed out) and quality (a little rough around the edges) Any tips on improving? Better HDMI cable? I messed around in the settings but don't think I made any progress.

    Do the universal remote attachments for the Apple TV remote work?

    So we have a stereo system connected to our television and I was thinking about getting a universal remote attachment for the new apple TV remote so that we don't always need two remotes. Has anybody used them? do they work? did you think it was worth it?

    Free for a year confusion

    I bought a new phone at the end of the last year and have the free for a year bonus, but am trying to watch the second episode of Mosquito Coast and it's asking me to sign up for a free trial. So then I tried to watch the second episode of Mythic Quest which it did let me watch. Are only a certain number of shows available?

    TSN app volume issue

    Anyone else use the TSN sports app but having the volume extremely low? I can turn my TV volume all the way to max and I can hardly hear it. Normally we watch shows at a volume of 15 but even at 80 it sounds like it's below %10. Only seem to have this issue with TSN, wondering if anyone else has the same problem?

    Having a frustrating issue with YouTube app

    For some reason whenever we load YouTube video it shows up really zoomed in but only taking up a quarter of the screen.

    If I close the app and reopen it works but just wondered if anyone had a more permanent fix?

    Why won’t my ATV4 listen to me?

    We have 3 ATV's in our house (2 ATV4K and 1 ATV4). Our ATV4 will not listen when pressing the Siri button on the remote, or rather it won't do a Siri search. I can type out letters via voice, but any words in any search boxes don't work. Any time I do a search with the Siri button on my ATV4 remote it just times out and says something like "Something went wrong, please try again"

    I have tried:

    -Restarting the unit. -Turning Siri off and back on. -Turning dictation off and back on. -Disabling location services and enabling. -Signing out of my Apple ID and back in. -Restarting my home's Wi-Fi. -Tried Siri from my phone as a remote, still doesn't work. -Updated to version 14.5. -Everything except for a full on reset…

    As is often the case, as features are added with each successive update, the size and memory usage requirements balloon more and more. For those of us with the pre-4K version of Apple TV from from 4+ years ago, your memory is going to be nearly maxed out, which degrades performance, especially in demanding apps (Multicast in ESPN app for example). I was getting flickering black screens just switching between different live video streams. Turning off background app refresh doesn't save a ton of memory usage, but it made enough of a difference for my system to work (mostly) like it did when I was still on tvOS 14.4. It's still a little slower but not much can be done about that except… buying the new Apple TV, lol. Also, bringing up the fast app switcher and swiping up to close out as many apps as possible helps a little, too.
