MacBook Pro Heats Up! Can't put it on my Lap. Any heat-insulating laptop cover? Posted: 01 May 2021 10:19 PM PDT I have a MacBook Pro 2020 with an Intel i5 chip. I enjoy working while sitting on a bed or a couch while having a Laptop on my Lap. But the Laptop seems to really overheat and I'm just unable to that for longer periods of time. I'm already using a Macbook Pro cover but that seems to not do anything to insulate the heat. [link] [comments]
Windows converts! What apps do you suggest for a new Mac user Posted: 01 May 2021 08:34 PM PDT I was a windows guy since 2006. I finally made the switch to an Intel i7 (Dual boot for GTA V) based Macbook Pro 13". I find the BigSur to be really polished and easy to use. There are a few things that still annoy me coming from Windows.
I really like the way the MacOS is designed to work and use. Windows habits don't die fast and I cant get used to this macbook without keyboard shorcuts like with Windows. I want to know your suggestions as former windows users. Thank you. [link] [comments]

Buying my first MacBook soon and need some advice. Posted: 01 May 2021 06:16 PM PDT Hey all, I'm finally taking the plunge and getting a Mac soon and just wanted to know if I'm making the right decision here. I am currently looking into the MacBook Pro M1 model, with 16gb of RAM and a 512gb SSD. I want this for music production and maybe some light gaming. Now the big question is, with the rumors of the new MBP's on the horizon, should I wait and see what they are, or just say heck with it and buy one now. I really like the model that's out now with the touch bar and everything, and the price that I'll be buying this at on the education store is basically the ceiling of what I can afford, but I don't want to feel like I missed out only weeks after getting one. If I order it now according to Apple's site, I won't get it until the end of this month, and I kinda don't want to wait until the end of June to get one if I don't like the new MBP'S. So what should I do? [link] [comments]
Constantly receiving static shocks from touching laptop, any danger here? Posted: 01 May 2021 07:58 AM PDT I just moved into a new apartment. The air is super dry. Working on fixing that right now. Every time I touch my laptop, I get shocked. I'm not so much concerned about my health as I am concerned about the laptop's health. It's a 2019 16" MBP. Any potential hazard in constantly receiving shocks whenever I walk around wearing socks on the carpet and then touching my laptop? [link] [comments]
HELP! Creaking Noise - M1 MacBook Air Posted: 01 May 2021 01:24 PM PDT My 5 month old MacBook Air has been problematic with it's annoying creaking and loud clicking noises that are coming from the top case of the laptop whenever I rest my hands in a certain position. I've been to two apple stores. The first apple store couldn't replicate the issue, they kept it for a 24 hour diagnostic and I later found out that they didn't even touch it during the 24 hour diagnostic. I went to the second store when the issue persisted and they were a lot nicer. This is where they told me the first store didn't do a diagnostic. They kept it for another 24 hours and couldn't replicate the issue. I finally received the laptop back with the issue still persisting. I called into apple support and spoke to a senior who took my video proof of the issue occurring on the laptop and said that she would sign me up to send it out to a repair centre and it would take 8-10 business days. I have tried everything and I am upset. The clicking noise is not normal and multiple people at Apple have told me it is not normal. No other Macbooks that are around me do this. I would know as I am around a lot of Macbooks everyday. I am coming to Reddit to see what my next steps are. I am waiting for it to come back from repair, but should the issue still persist, what are my next options? I am NOT buying another MacBook Air. This issue is not ignorable, it sounds like a loud clank and frustrates me as a laptop this new should not be making this kind of sound. What should I do? Anybody experience something similar? How to show fps while playing an Apple Arcade game? Posted: 01 May 2021 08:17 PM PDT I downloaded a game from Apple Arcade (Beyond a Steel Sky). What's the easiest way to show fps in-game? I know a lot of different Windows programs that can display fps in-game but unfamiliar with similar programs for Mac. I'm on MBA M1. [link] [comments]
Safari freezes while opening a new tab MacBook Air 2017 Posted: 01 May 2021 01:43 PM PDT I have problem with my 2017 MacBook Air, i5, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD. Mac tends to lag while opening new tab in Safari Technology Preview. It doesn't happen always but its quite irritating. It doesn't depend if there are 10+ tabs or just one, lags just happen from time to time. Is it any possibility to fix it? I have the newest MacOs, no viruses, a lot of space on disc, no programs which run in the background. [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 May 2021 10:37 AM PDT Hello! So I got my MBA like the first week of march and the battery life was great! After a month of usage I started to notice im plugging it in like every day rather than every other day. Maybe my usage is higher but I honestly dont think so. My battery capacity is now at 98% and honestly after a month of usage? I know how it sounds but come on... its a noticeable change when you go from charging every 2 days to every day. The toughest programs I use is Flowjo which is a flow cytometry program which uses up a lot of ram. Other than that its mainly the standard Safair + Spotify study sessions. Debating buying apple care for the battery replacement in the future. How long do we have again after purchasing the machine to buy the insurance? Was it 60 or 90 days? If I got it shipped and waited like 2 weeks does it extend till the day I receive it or is it based on the purchase date? I purchased it on February 13th and received it March 9th. Thanks [link] [comments]

How throughly does Apple check for butterfly keyboard failure? Posted: 01 May 2021 08:14 AM PDT I have a 2017 MacBook Pro 15" and it's starting to show intermittent repeated key stroke issues. Thankfully it's still within the timeframe for Apple's keyboard replacement program but the the issue only comes up every now and then (usually on the space bar). I'm worried if I send it in, the Apple technicians won't be able to replicate the issue. Does anyone know how thoroughly they check? Is there a cost associated with sending it back to me if they can't recreate the issue? I'm in the U.S. if that matters. [link] [comments]
M1 air with 16gb ram and 1tb SSD or M1 pro with 8gb ram and 1tb SSD? Posted: 01 May 2021 03:09 PM PDT I'm in the market for a new laptop and looking at switching to Mac from windows. I was pretty much set on the M1 MBP with 8gb of ram and an upgraded 1tb SSD, however I've since done some more research and seen that there isn't too much difference in terms of performance between the M1 MBA and the M1 MBP (about £100 price difference with student discount). So is it worth spending a bit more for the lower specced MBP or going for the MBA with more ram? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 May 2021 09:09 AM PDT Hi there, I just got my first Mac, I bought a mew and sealed M1 MacBook Air... so far I like it. I have one issue though: in the App Store and clicked my account to "adopt" 5 apps: iMovie, Numbers, Pages, Keynote and GarageBand. Problem is I press accept and enter my Apple ID and get the error "could not assign applications to your account" Any ideas what I can do? Thanks [link] [comments]
M1 running apps that are not from Appstore Posted: 01 May 2021 10:17 AM PDT I am thinking about getting the new MacBook Air M1 but I have heard it has issues running apps that weren't downloaded from the Appstore, can someone confirm or disprove it? [link] [comments]

Replaced the battery on my 2012 MacBook Air, still runs pretty well Posted: 01 May 2021 08:42 AM PDT I'm a tech enthusiast and I've always been more amenable to opening up my own electronics to diagnose and fix problems if I can. Starting with the iPod Nano, I also started to become an Apple fanboy but we all know how Apple has made it increasingly difficult to repair your own hardware. Nonetheless, I had always been impressed with Apple's hardware support, so I kept buying Apple products. I bought a 2012 MacBook Air in 2013 for graduate school and it served me well. I then bought a 2017 MacBook Pro for my job but that had all sorts of problems that I ultimately milked my credit card warranty then traded back to Apple to get most of my money back. I bought a 2018 Mac Mini because I no longer needed portability and I was pretty happy with the Mac Mini. However, from time to time, I wish I had a laptop to use because I've tried since iPad 2 to use an iPad as a computer replacement but I have specific use cases that aren't amenable to using an iPad. My MacBook Air is close to 7-8 years old now, so the battery was only holding ~40-45% of its designed capacity. I found a reputable battery on Amazon for $50 and spent 15 minutes replacing it. It was surprisingly easy and I'm using my MacBook Air right now...for light tasks, it's not that much slower than my Mac Mini. As I got older, my computing needs really decreased because I try to leave my work at work and no longer needed heavy computing at home. I should've just kept the MacBook Air around and replaced the battery sooner. Then bought an M1 Mac Mini and run that as a headless server/remote desktop. That MacBook Pro was such an unnecessary splurge...I also have a refurbished LG Ultrafine for that MacBook Pro that worked well for one-cable charging/video/peripherals, but now it's just a glorified video/USB-C hub. M1 MacBook Air for Zoom Screen Sharing while Opening YouTube, Coding, and Writing Documents Posted: 01 May 2021 07:38 AM PDT I'm currently with the Intel MacBook Pro 13" and it struggles a lot when multitasking while on a zoom or a discord screen sharing. Being that everything is online now, I would love to do my work while sharing my screen with my friends for them to check. The work can include many things simultaneously like coding on MATLAB while a YouTube tutorial of an Indian tutor playing in Chrome that has the AdBlocker, Honey, and several other extensions installed with my half-written lab report draft on Microsoft Word opened in another desktop all while connected to a 4k 60Hz display. Now that I've purposely described the kind of heavy load the machine needs to handle, do you think the base model M1 MacBook Air can handle this? If not, I can pay a bit more for the 16GB MacBook Air or the 8GB MacBook Pro instead but that's the maximum I'm willing to pay. Please let me know if you have any similar experience you might like to share! [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 May 2021 07:18 AM PDT Hi guys, I'm planning to upgrade my wireless router to take advantage of the faster wifi 6 on MBA and my phones as well. However, Apple doesn't really list the exact wifi specs on their website. Does it support 160Hz? Is the antennae 2x2? What about WPA3? I don't want to overpay for a router that I can't fully make use of. Which router should I get? Is AX6000 an overkill? [link] [comments]
