| Parallels Desktop supports Mac M1 natively Posted: 15 Apr 2021 12:00 AM PDT Hello, first time posting here. So Parallels Desktop is officially supporting M1 macs, allowing users to run arm base windows 10 with the windows Arm insider program. But the problem is, if Microsoft decides to end the insider program, and made the official Arm windows 10 not compatible with Virtual Machines, does it means that M1 macs will have no way to boot into windows? Is there any method for applications to translate normal x64 windows to run it on Mac? (I do think that booting into windows in macOS is a plus feature.) | Time Machine sparsebundle on NAS is empty, doesn't load when Entering Time Machine Posted: 15 Apr 2021 01:32 AM PDT Since about three months, I have a Time Machine backup on a Synology NAS. The process always worked flawlessly, regular backups, verification etc. But today I needed to go back to find a deleted file, and found that apparently there is nothing on the sparsebundle. When I Enter Time Machine and go to any previous point in time, it just gets stuck on "Waiting" and "Loading…". So I mounted the sparsebundle and… there is nothing on it. Info says the bundle is 542GB in size. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on? [link] [comments]  | ||

Posted: 15 Apr 2021 12:39 AM PDT In recent months I feel that my machine is not as snappy as it used to be, and for some reason apfs founds itself in the need of cleaning up space. I've done some tmutil to clear up snapshots but it was (as I suspected) no help at all. diskutil apfs list show this Thus there is (albeit not optimal amount of) free space, still this is showing up: I'm running 11.2.1 (20D75) (Big Sur). I was trying to get my Mac to connect to an Apple TV (for use in hotels) with out wifi but the pier to pier thing seems to only work with iOS/iPadOS and not with macOS. I was able to do this once and the remote desktop application doesn't work anymore. I tried using parallels and had it working once and then black out. I can't even ping my windows machine from my macbook. I can ping the macbook from the windows machine though. I tried to turn off the firewall on windows machine but that didn't work either. When using a mouse with my Mac (a basic Logitech bluetooth one), pressing the wheel (which is also a button) triggers the « app switcher ». | Outlook + Big Sur = Indexing issues (tried stuff before to fix it with no luck) Posted: 14 Apr 2021 03:42 PM PDT Hi all, I'm running Big Sur 11.2.1 and I'm experiencing issues with Outlook search, i.e. no results are coming up. Sorry if this is a repeat — I did a reddit search in this sub for indexing + outlook but only got this result (https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/k5wv8a/big_sur_spotlight_issues/) which didn't give an answer. This first started a couple of weeks ago when I noticed that the past few weeks worth of emails were no longer coming up in the search engine. This might have been around the time that I installed Big Sur, but my memory is fuzzy. I followed the instructions here (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_outlook-mso_mac-mso_o365b/outlook-365-macos-version-1644-20121301-does-not/d0ee6a1a-231f-421d-91ec-df707bef7866) and other places, but now there are no search results. I let this go for a couple of weeks in case it was just taking a while (?) Tried again today with the instructions above but still no search results. I did notice when I clicked on the spotlight symbol in the upper right corner immediately after following all steps that it did say something like "index" or "indexing", with a 25% complete loading bar. But then it said nothing and still no email search within Outlook. HOWEVER, when I type in the name of someone who emailed me (or an email topic, etc.) the emails do come up within Spotlight, just not on Outlook. But im also getting a message saying my current webpage is using too much energy? i had a ton of tabs, like 50 of them. Is there anyway to retrieve them? is safari only hiding them because of the energy issue? im careful always to quit safari so i dont loose the tabs but im not sure what happened this time [link] [comments]  | ||
| Big Sur - Speech to Text switches to different language sometimes? Posted: 14 Apr 2021 02:15 PM PDT I use the "Speak selection" (System Preferences > Accessibility > Speak Content > Speak selected) feature quite often. I just upgraded to Big Sur, I know I'm way behind, and I've found a few things that's slightly annoying. The biggest one is that if text appears to be in a different Language, the voice switches to a best guess language to match the text. This was not the case in all previous versions of macOS. How do I disable it? The other two is that once the voice starts speaking, the selected text is automatically "unselected" and when you have something like "ThisIsSomeRandomTextToProveMyPoint" it starts spelling out the word.
