Touching "dead zone" area created with guided access makes the screen not detecting other touches done on normal parts of the screen

I created a "dead zone" on the lower right corner of my screen when playing a video game in guided access. If I'm pulling a D-pad on the left part of the screen, which makes my character move forward, whenever my palm touches the "dead zone", my screen stops detecting my other finger pulling the d-pad forward, thus my character stops moving... Is this normal?
