The M1 isn’t the big deal. The 16GB of Ram is. Posted: 21 Apr 2021 08:40 PM PDT The chip that's in the new iPad is the chip that was always going to be in The new iPad. The M1 is the A14X The only aspect at play here is marketing. Apple figured all the great press that the M1 got would be worth extending to the iPad Pro. and it does help in marketing the iPad as a machine that Apple is serious about as a powerful pro tool The M1 being in the iPad on its own doesn't change anything. This iPad is exactly as fast as we all expected it to be and It doesn't make MacOS running on an iPad any more likely. The A12z can and has run MacOS. So whatever Apple named this chip it was always going to be able to run MacOS (but probably never will) I believe the real tip of the hand is the 16gb of Ram. I was genuinely shocked to see up to 16gb of Ram on that splash screen The iPad as a consumer device currently has no justification to require that much Ram. Some applications will take some advantage of more than 8gb but they're pretty few and far between And even MacOS on it's own doesn't require 8gb to run smoothly. I'm fairly convinced that Apple have added 16gb Ram options to the iPad Pro because Pro apps that can take advantage of it are coming and coming soon. NOT because some sort of duel boot OS is on the horizon. I'll have my eyes and ears peeled for mentions of Final Cut Pro and X Code at WWDC in just over 6 weeks time. TLDR: the chip in this years iPad is no surprise. The name is. But the name is pure marketing. The 16gb of Ram is a real surprise and points to big things coming to iPad [link] [comments]

How to find best matte screen protectors for reading specifically? Posted: 22 Apr 2021 12:36 PM PDT I am a student looking to both read and write a lot on my iPad, so I am looking to increase the friction I feel between the pencil and the screen but also want to maintain the sharpest picture quality I can for reading lots of small printed text. I'll mainly be reading lots of textbooks and papers, and writing lots of quick notes during class. I know there have been many discussion about matte screen protectors already, but none that I've found specifically address which are the best for reading clarity. I don't care about things like color accuracy or vibrancy or anything, I just need to be able to read black text on white backgrounds as clearly as possible to reduce eye strain, while adding some friction between the pencil and screen to make writing easier. Cost isn't a significant factor for me either as long as it will last over a year (cost becomes more significant if I'd need to replace it more than once a year). This includes the cost of replacing the pencil tips due to faster wearing. How do I determine which screen protectors are best for reading clarity and sharpness? Reading reviews on the product pages always gives such mixed results between positive and negative feedback that all f the products end up seeming the same. Are there specific specs or features I should be looking for? I've looked into Paperlike because their nanodots feature claims to maintain sharpness as much as possible while providing that paper-like friction to writing, but many posts here have talked about how Paperlike is actually trash and that they scratch up a ton quite quickly (thus ruining the sharpness/clarity of the screen). Any insights would be much appreciated! [link] [comments]

PS5 haptic feedback on M1 chip Posted: 22 Apr 2021 02:17 PM PDT Is the 2018 model incapable of this feature? Didn't strike me it needs so much power. I also thought I've seen something about this feature on the notes for iPadOS 14.5, which is now available, and it sounded like it should work on more iDevices, not just those with the new chip. Unless I'm wrong. [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Apr 2021 02:14 PM PDT I am looking to get a purchase a used 4th gen ipad either within 60 days of original purchase or one that already has applecare that can be transferred to me. Can anyone tell me how adding applecare process works? Would I need the original receipt even if "add applecare' is an option in the ipad menu? [link] [comments]
No iPad has the U1 chip correct? Posted: 22 Apr 2021 11:25 AM PDT From my research only the iPhone 11 and 12, and Apple watch 6 have the U1 chip and can use air tags. Is this right? [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Apr 2021 11:01 AM PDT With the iPad's new hardware updates, many have speculated that Apple's pro apps (Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, etc.) will eventually be available on the iPad. If or when this occurs, do you think individuals will be required to repurchase these apps if they already have the Mac versions? Do you think Apple will change the way these apps are bought and opt for a subscription model, like Adobe? Does it surprise you that these apps aren't already a subscription? I'm sorry if this is a silly question. I just want to get the community's perspective out of curiosity. [link] [comments]

Posted: 22 Apr 2021 11:29 AM PDT Hi everyone, I recently got an iPad Pro and was wondering if there was a way to airplay from my iPhone to my iPad. For instance if I've started a YouTube video on my phone but want to continue watching it on my iPad, is there a way to do this? Right now I have to copy and paste the YouTube link into the ipad which is kinda clunky and doesn't always scrub to the right point in the video. [link] [comments]
iPad Pro support Sports Templates? Posted: 22 Apr 2021 07:12 AM PDT Is anyone one using Sports Templates on an iPad Pro? Am leaning towards purchasing a Pro. A big plus is if I can use Sports Templates on it. [link] [comments]
Choosing a default email apps on iPhone/iPad Posted: 22 Apr 2021 10:42 AM PDT Apple's Mail? Outlook? or other? I'm using the builtin Mail app, it's getting laggy when fetching new mails since I added a few accounts.. The search function is useless... Is Outlook better? I only use outlook for my university account. Can I add gmail accounts to the Outlook app? [link] [comments]

Posted: 22 Apr 2021 10:11 AM PDT So, I just bought an iPad Air 4 for watching movies when traveling. This is my first iPad and I'm not sure of one thing. If I buy a type C USB and put my video files on it (They are all MKV files) will I be able to then open the file with the files APP and then proceed to share the file with VLC in order to watch them? I don't want to copy the files on my ipad , just watch from the USB. Thank you! [link] [comments]
Seeing the host cursor in Jump Desktop Posted: 22 Apr 2021 06:10 AM PDT I have been enjoying Jump Desktop for quite a while now, and recently wanted to be able to use it as a second monitor for my Windows PC sometimes. Unfortunately, I can't see the cursor on the host PC. I was wondering if there was a workaround. I checked the forums on Jump Desktop and google, but couldn't find anything that worked within the app itself. I was thinking maybe there is some kind of software I could use on my Windows host PC that would make the cursor visible to my iPad? I know I could get Duet, but I tried it and much prefer being able to use Jump wirelessly and being able to hear the sound from my iPad. I also felt that Duet was not as lag-free as advertised. Looking to attach a strong magnet to the iPad case. Would that be safe for the iPad Air? Posted: 22 Apr 2021 06:49 AM PDT I know that Ipad Air is magnetic and the smart folio case is also magnetic and so is the magic keyboard. But I'm looking to attach the back of the folio case to a strong magnet that will be attached to a desk mount. This is for easy attach and detach and a cleaner look. My question is, would adding like a strong neodymium magnet to the iPad case be a bad thing for the iPad itself? [link] [comments]
2021 iPad Pro 12.9 as a Mini Pro Display XDR Posted: 22 Apr 2021 01:29 AM PDT I feel like not enough is being made of the display on the new 12.9. As someone who uses the 2018 Pro as a 3rd monitor for my Mac M1 setup, I'm almost as excited about using it as mini Pro Display XDR display! I'm assuming that the Thunderbolt 4 connection will have plenty of room to pull the full HDR signal from a Mac? Same contrast, same 1600 nits peak, more local dimming zones and 120Hz!! It's going to be extremely impressive and most likely that one thing that all the early reviews rave about. [link] [comments]
Wild guess: Apple is ditching the Macbook Air for iPad Pros. Posted: 22 Apr 2021 11:06 AM PDT I've been thinking the reasons why ipads haven't already replaced Macbooks since years ago, and came up with the following reasons back in 2017, when I bought the ipad pro gen2 (I think) with touchID:
Since 2018, with the creation of the new USB-C ipads, and ipadOS, they have basically solved all of the above. (I switched to the 2018 model in mid 2019.) The ipad now has a file system that doesn't suck as much; keyboard and mouse/touchpad now properly supported; USB-C made connectivity better than before, and connecting to my external mics, wireless receivers, drives and monitors felt better than before. Now that M1 is in the ipad, and given the new USB4 port, I think apple finally solved 1 and 5, leaving only 4. If they solve problem 4 (apps) in WWDC21, I think they would have just completely eliminated the macbook air from the market. This new ipad pro has: - just about the same screen size - just about the same performance - runs the same apps - has pen and touch support - lightweight and versatile It's basically everything Macbook Air has and more. iPad pro will be the hybrid touchscreen computer for everyone, even the 13 inch macbook pro M1 now seems dangerous. I think this is exactly why they used the same look on the M1 Air and Pro. Although with new internals, they mark the end of the last era of ipad, 13inch macs and 15+inch macs lineup. Apple is gonna make sure that their next laptops come out with much better spec'ed CPUs and GPUs(maybe even discrete GPUs), and have drastic new looks "built from the ground up for the new M-series CPUs". New lineup of Macs: ipad pro with M-chips, portable, powerful, for everyone. macbook pro 14, high performance, more CPU and GPU cores, more than 2 USB4 ports, for powerusers. macbook pro 16, very high performance, drastically more CPU cores, discrete GPU, 4 or more USB4 ports, this time really for pros. What do you guys think? Thanks for your time. [link] [comments]
