The iPad Mini 5 is a beaut!

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 11:51 AM PDT

Disappointed that no new Mini was announced at the Spring Loaded event so I decided to bite the bullet and buy the Mini 5 instead to upgrade from my Mini 3.

And I'm so happy I did.

This thing is an absolute game changer. So light and compact. I haven't once put it down. I actually like the design and bezels as well as it's quite nice to hold when using it as an e-reader.

The screen isn't too small either so I've used it for note taking and digital art with Procreate.

Annoyed at myself why I didn't buy this sooner tbh.

Do you think the 16GB RAM variant of the 12.9 inch M1 iPad Pro will make much of a difference in terms of performance compared to the 8GB variant?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 08:28 AM PDT

The price difference from the base model is too high and I do not think many people will need 1TB of storage. What do you think? Will it make a difference?

Is it just me or do any of you try to click the "undo" button while using any other pen once you have started to use the apple pencil?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 05:24 AM PDT

I can't tell you how many times I end up double clicking my gel pens to erase or tap on the corner of a piece of paper to undo. Also, any artists out there, tell me your struggles. This is a safe space 😅😅

    Better Filing System

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 05:52 AM PDT

I have been hearing a lot about how the iPad should add a better file management system in the next update. I agree that a better filing system is nothing but helpful, but I seem to do alright with my external hard drive and saving my files to the hard drive via files. Which brings me to my question, what specific features or aspects would you like Apple to implement to the file storage that could help it?

Probably asked a lot but is there a screen protector that doesn't affect the screen quality?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 02:07 PM PDT

I was looking for a good screen protector since I draw a lot on my iPad air 2020 but I also enjoy watching movies on it (since the sound is so good) (... And I want to see my colors as they should look like on the iPad)

I've read a lot that any good matte screen protector would work for the drawing part but is there also one that won't affect the viewing experience?

    Thank you in advance!!

    Do you think we’ll get…

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 01:38 PM PDT

…a 4K iPad? I know that the benefits may sound negligible, due to there being a limit to discernable differences in PPI once you reach a certain point, but I feel like having the ability to view 4k content in full quality on the go could suit a certain niche creative or casual audience.

    Voice only for blind users?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 05:12 AM PDT

I was wondering if there was a way so I could upload or use a video, even just the audio itself, and use an app on the iPad to play it back? I tried using YouTube and Google, calling them up and saying 'Play' or 'Tap Play.' It doesn't work too well so I was hoping there's an app I can use or download?? Thanks in advance.

Do you use the Apple pencil rubber/silicone nibs? What are your thoughts?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 01:19 AM PDT

To get the most out of the iPP screen, I'm planning on not getting at screen protector but rather a nib for the pencil 2. If you use/used these :

    • What is ur general take?
    • Does it take away the pencil feel? (Too much
      resistance)
    • Does it wear out as fast?
    • Do you really notice a difference in thickness at the tip compared to the rest of the body?
    • Anything else worth mentioning...

Writing/drawing on an 11" iPad while standing?....

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 05:01 AM PDT

Really dumb question. My job involves many hours of standing while drawing and writing on a tablet. Coming from a Surface Pro 7, my arms start hating me after a while as its a bit too big to comfortably grip with one arm while writing on with the other.

Can anyone attest to whether this is something comfortable, or at least manageable on an 11" iPad? Lol

    IpadAir2020 - USB-C Adapter to 1. Aux / 2. Midi-controller(USB) / 3. Charging port

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 02:45 AM PDT

    Hi,

i have some troubles finding the best adapter for my small "ipad - music making " setup.
    Basically i want to connect
    1. my speaker or headphones (audio jack or usb-c)
    2. a midi controller via usb (joué play (usb or usb-c)
and if possible 3. the charging cable
to my Ipad air 4 (2020)

I tried some 3rd party usb hubs from amazon but they have audio issues like loosing the connection to the midi controller after a few seconds or basic poor audio quality.

Does anybody has a good working setup for music making?

Preorder for iPad Pro 11” 2021 sellout time?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 08:28 PM PDT

How fast do you guys think the iPad Pro 11" will sell out past a may delivery this friday? I know everyone has been saying that the 12.9" will sell super fast. I'm just wondering because school starts in July for me and I want to make sure I have the iPad ASAP.

Apple pencil tip unscrewing for left handers?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 12:46 AM PDT

I've had my apple pencil for a few weeks now and ive had the tip become loose and needed to re-screw it in like every other day. I use it pretty often for school homework/notes. Is this because i'm left handed? and any one else with the same experience who's found a way around it? It's a tiny issue, but it doesn't seem normal

When exactly does the pre-order on the 30th start?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 04:43 PM PDT

    Hello,

I got a bit of a "noobish" question, but I was watching the resent Apple Event, and fell absolutely head over heels in love with the new Ipad Pro 12.9 inch. So I intend on ordering it on the 30th when they become available, so I can guarantee that I will get it ASAP.

Now this is the first time I will be doing this, so I just wanted to hear if anyone knew when exactly the pre-order window opens, "30th May" is a little vague. Does it mean at midnight? I.e. to have the best chances I should be sitting awake till 23:59 on the 29th, ready to pounce at 0:00 on the 30th? Or is there a time-zone in particular I should be orienting towards?

I live in Denmark (GMT +1).

Thanks in advance for any information.

    iPadOS 15

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 05:30 PM PDT

TLDR: 'merge macOS and iPadOS' with extra steps.

I watched [SnazzyLabs]('https://youtu.be/2GlbxfquG-U') new video' on the latest apple event and his comments on the M1 iPad Pro got me thinking about iPadOS 15.

His comment on it was basically along the line of:

these things have such clear capabilities in terms of hardware to replace a laptop. And with 2TB SSD 16GB RAM offering being the max spec iPad Pro, it seems silly that a device so capable is running something as limiting as iPadOS 14.

I think this gives us an idea of where they might be going with the next version set to be announced on the 7th of June. Heres what I'm thinking:

    • When Apple announced the M1 for the MacBook and Mac Mini models in 2020, a flood of announcements came in over the months of apps that were updating with a M1 optimized version of the app.

    • Along with this we got to see that Apple's emulator allowed X86 macOS apps run on the new ARM hardware.

    • Finally we saw a lot of apps allowing their iOS Apps to be downloaded on an M1 Mac.

I think these three things indicate how they're going to bring 'pro' application support to iPadOS. I think Apple might offer apps that optimized their Mac apps for M1 to port those apps to iPadOS. This could allow true third party browser support for the first time and possibly allow an easy flow of pro apps onto the iPad platform. Although Apple are pretty adverse to this sort of thing, I think it could make sense because they would still ultimately have control of how third party apps get on to the device but it could open the iOS platform enough for some good "anti-competitive behavior" PR for a change.

Another thing that has been preventing many people from making the switch to an iPad is how badly it has been handling external displays over the years. The recent announcement of the 2021 iPad Pro's USB-C port having thunderbolt 3 really doesn't seem like they intend on keeping the display output limited to mirroring the iPad screen.

One idea that I had as to how they might try solve this would be to make a new 'workspace' on the external display:

    • This workspace would look like one on macOS it would have the dock from your iPad.
    • You would get a regular mouse when you were focused on the external display.
    • If you bring the mouse back into the iPad's screen, it will go back to being the little circle.
    • In addition the windows on the external display would get the three dots to manage the windows (like on macOS) and the way of accessing the control center, widgets, and Notification Center would replicate the way it's been implemented in macOS Big Sur.

This would solve the problem of scaling the OS for different screen resolutions. It would also keep the best interface for a desktop available when you want to use it as a desktop but it will get to keep the regular iPad Home Screen (plus better widgets hopefully).

This implementation would make sense to me because they would basically get to recycle a tried and tested experience and finally solve the iPad's multitasking problem. I get that it sounds like a long winded way of saying 'merge iPadOS and macOS' but it could be viable since it is based on technologies that they've already released. Do you think those features would help make the switch? (along with better files app and many other frequently requested features)
