Bought my first ever Apple watch S6. I love it a lot and I use my phone less often to check the time and notifications. Especially convenient with my AirPods pro.

    Whoop-like features anyone?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 06:02 AM PST

I'm sure this has been asked before but I can't find a concrete answer. Is it possible to get any Whoop-esque features on the Apple Watch? I'm mainly interested in the recovery stuff. I'd buy a Whoop but I don't really want to wear 2 devices + the monthly subscription really annoys me.

If anyone has found any decent apps, please let me know!

Collection. All but one are knock offs. Can you spot the original? All the sports bands were from Ali express and no more than 2 dollars each. So far. No complaints.

Does the Series 6 and/or the Watch SE need to calibrate before they start to be accurate or was that just a launch issue?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 05:20 AM PST

I am thinking of grabbing either the series 6 or the SE (still not really sure which one to get) and I heard that (at least on the SE) the watch wasn't that accurate at the beginning but as time went on it became better. Is this a thing with all the watches or just the SE and was it just a launch bug that has been fixed since?

This may be a dumb question but I do need to know if my Apple Watch se I ordered will work on iOS 13.5 or do I have to update to iOS 14?

Workout reaction message going to wrong person

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 06:32 AM PST

My dad shares his activity with me and whenever he completes a workout or wins an award I get a notification on my watch with the option to react with some pre-written phrases. Sometimes I do that.

Today I wanted to text an acquaintance from my phone and when I opened the message thread I saw that those reactions to my dad's workouts have been sent to this person in the past month or so. She seems to have an iPhone but I'm not sure if she has an Apple Watch. I'm a bit mortified because some of the reactions are a bit sassy and I don't really know this acquaintance that well.

It also seems that along with the reaction phrase it sends a preview of my dad's workout to this random person, which would be a rather concerning privacy issue on Apple's part.

Anyway, has this happened to anyone else? Do you have any clue if there's an easy fix?

    Thanks!

    Watch not connected to internet

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 06:32 AM PST

Starting yesterday my S6 watch started not being able to do anything unless it was near my phone. Both the wifi and cellular are turned on. Anyone know what might be causing this? I rebooted both the phone and the watch and it didn't fix the issue.

My first Apple Watch. I finally gave in,I had been thinking about it for a long time. Loving it so far. The shipping was crazy fast, ordered yesterday at 5pm and got here today at 12pm. Also, I’ve been thinking about getting some kind of screen protector. Any recommendations?

I think I solved my AppleWatch Silicone Rash Issue

I think I solved my AppleWatch Silicone Rash Issue

So in May of 2020, I bought my first Apple Watch. I used the band it came with and everything seemed fine and great. I wore it almost every day, worked out in it, and cleaned it just fine. No issues. As a precursor, I do have very sensitive skin and can't wear any cheap metals on my persons. Well in December I started to notice an itch developing on my wrist. Thinking it was probably just a small irritation from wearing the watch too much, I switched the watch to the other arm. It took not even a day for the other arm to develop the same Rash. Now, this startled me, how could that be. I've been wearing the watch for months with no issues and all of a sudden I am getting rashes.

I decided to take a month and not wear it at all, only to have the issue arise the second I wear it. So I decided to go with another band. I bought a Nylon Band and its been a week and no Rash! So now I have an issue. I like to swim with my watch sometimes, and now I cant really do that since nylon has to dry. Then I speculated as to why my band gave me problems in the first spot. I put the old band back on and realized the spot where it has the most wear is where I was getting a rash.(in the pic the rightmost band at the middle top.

I began to rub it with my hands to see itty pieces begin to fall off, almost like dead skin, but it wasn't skin, it was the protective coating. So here is where the problem lies. The uncoated part of the silicone acts almost like a suction cup, and is very harsh on the skin, it also traps any moisture causing the rash to accure.

So why did it degrade so fast? Well I looked at how to clean your apple watch and came across this

    https://www.epicwatchbands.com/blogs/apple-watch-bands/how-to-clean-your-apple-watch-bands

Due to covid, I was really paranoid about being clean. I used to wipe my watch and band with small lens wet wipes (for glasses and cameras) after a workout almost every day. Along with that maybe a little bit of hand sanitizer got on the band too from it coming off my hands. Apparently, the alcohol was degrading the protective layer, cause it to peel. Which explains why at first I was fine but only down the road did I have issues. It's not an allergy to the material but rather the band exposing the raw material which suctions to your skin and traps moisture much better. (it's more coarse rather than smooth). I tried another silicone band and was fine.

So my suggestion is to not use any cleaning products on the watch, follow that article's guide for cleaning. Make sure you do keep it clean. And if your still paranoid, I suggest buying a silicone band loop that has holes in it to allow for my air (like the nike band).

So far the Nylon has been great and waiting on my new silicone band to come in

P.S: Also to had a note, My watch was bought used. Which explains why it degraded faster than usual. It never felt dirty since I cleaned it when I got it, but a word of warning, if you buy used you might want to include the price of a new band in your mind.

TLDR: Alcohol degrades the protective layer of the silicone band causing a rash to appear. Only wash with warm water and soap. Bands will still degrade if you workout a lot but at a slower pace. Nylon bands work if you have the issue.
