I needed an Apple pencil case, so I recycled an old Parker pen box. It fit in perfectly! Saved 20 bucks easy!

Flat side Edges started with iPhone 4 but seems most elegant on iPads though implemented a lot late with iPad 2018 version...hopefully coming to iPad mini soon. What do you all think?

    First IPad

I just bought a iPad 8 as the first Apple product and I love it, I am seriously considering dumping my Android for a iPhone this year after ten years.

Has anyone used this? Purchased from Amazon for around $12. Didn’t do much research before buying and now I’m not sure if I want to apply it or not?

    Increase video player playback speed?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2021 12:43 PM PST

    hey all,

new iPad owner here, I don't really have a ton of experience with iOS since iPod touch 1 lol. I have the 8th edition basic iPad. I have some mp4 videos of lectures I want to watch at faster than 1x speed, but I can't seem to find a way to do it. I've tried the default video player and I've downloaded a couple others off the app store, but none of them seem to have the option.

this seems like pretty basic functionality these days so I'm sure I'm just searching for it poorly or missing a setting or something. looking for some guidance on how I can achieve faster playback of these videos.

    thanks in advance!

Video Editing - Need some help and advice (has a backstory :/)

    Posted: 06 Feb 2021 09:42 AM PST

So, I am just getting into video editing (I haven't even started. You'll know why later in the post) and was looking for a free program for video editing. So I went searching for the usual popular ones and landed on DaVinci Resolve. I was launching it on my Windows laptop (Specs - i5-8265U, 16GB, 512GB, UHD620) and ran into the issue of the GPU not supporting OpenCL/CUDA so the app wouldn't launch.

I remember using LumaFusion on a friend's iPad before and thought about using that for video editing. I'm just a beginner and dont know anything about video editing. I know mostly everything else about a YouTube channel, in fact I've set up everything and the only thing I need to do is record, edit and upload videos to get started but that PC destroyed my dreams (not really a dream but a hobby-ish).

So basically I'm asking whether LumaFusion is good for beginners and can handle some heavy video editing (hopefully I can edit on a desktop later) on an iPad Air 4 through an external SSD.

Also, what do I format my SSD as so that it can be used with iPadOS and Windows.

tl;dr Is LumaFusion good for beginners and can it handle heavy video edits (for the future) and also what do I format my SSD as so I can use it with both Windows and iPadOS.

Drawing apps recommendation for iPad 6th Gen?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2021 05:49 AM PST

Hello folks! I have the 32GB iPad 6th Generation from 2018 with Cellular, and I wonder what drawing apps could I possibly use.
So a bit of background, I am using Tayasui Sketches (free) and Autodesk Sketchbook (free) for now. I really like the brushes and the controls with Tayasui, but Autodesk Sketchbook give me more control, however, I just hate the lack of smoothness in their brushes. So, I have been considering Procreate, as I could have the best of both world, but I'm not sure if it worth the price since I'm not sure if my iPad is able to push to the max capability of Procreate (I also have save money too, so I want to make sure every dollar counts, and also explains why I still use the free version of Tayasui).
So, should I get Procreate? or stick to my own set ups? or is there any alternatives (preferably free ones) I could consider instead?

    Thank you.

Is it possible to use an external display with iPad 7 over USB?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2021 10:37 AM PST

I have the CCK running to a USB hub, and have seen some USB>HDMI adapters on Amazon, but am interested to know if that setup could even work before springing the cash for one.

Otherwise, my only other option is to AirPlay to my old ATV3 that's sitting in a drawer somewhere, right?

Does the iPad Air 4th Gen has limited USB-C cable compatibility? (or faulty hardware?)

    Posted: 06 Feb 2021 08:10 AM PST

I just got my new iPad Air 4 and while I was excited that I would finally need carry only usb-c charger/cables for all my devices, I realized that my iPad won't charge (or connect for data) except with two of my 5 cables - I don't know if it's a faulty unit (like some iPad Pros) or merely very picky... So far:

    - the USB-A to USB-C samsung cable that came with my 2017 samsung phone won't work, on the contrary,

    - the USB-A to USB-C samsung that came with my mom's 2020 samsung phone DOES work (they have the same pin layout)

    - the USB-C to USB-C cable that came with the new iPad DOES work

    - the USB-A to USB-C cable that came with my Oculus Quest 2 won't work

    - a USB-A to microUSB cable with a samsung microUSB to usb-C adapter that I use for PCVR (quicklink) won't work either

My Oculus Quest 2 and the two samsung phones can transfer data and (quick)charge just fine with all 5 cables, it's only the iPad that is acting up!

Unfortunately no apple store for a few thousand kilometers around to go and have them test it

Issue with paying mkv files on an external storage on iPadOS 14.4

    Posted: 06 Feb 2021 01:46 PM PST

When connecting my external storage drive which is an SSD to my iPad Pro 2018 11 inch to play MKV video files on my iPad from the external storage it will take awhile for it to load but then it will play bad within a minute or two the video will just close automatically. Very frustrating.

Mostly happens with bigger size files like about 2gb and higher but sometimes there's no issue at all with some 3gb video files.

Why does this happen constantly and can it be fixed ?

    Questions about iPad File Management

    Posted: 06 Feb 2021 07:43 AM PST

I'm thinking of getting an iPad soon, but I have some worries about File Management. I had an iPhone many years ago, and I remember that it was a big problem for me!

    1. Is there a way to access all files, seeing all folders and the whole folder tree, or are they hidden strangely, linked to specific apps?

    2. Can I access (and edit) all of the storage on the iPad from Windows? (ideally in Windows Explorer)

    3. Can I extract compressed filetypes, such as .zip, .rar?

    4. When I download files on the iPad (from Safari, or saving a document from Microsoft Word, for example), can I choose anywhere I like to download the file to? I dislike storing everything in some sort of "Downloads" folder, where I can't find anything at all!

Thanks for your help, all! :)

Any compatible microphones for the iPad pro (2020)?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2021 09:43 AM PST

Okay, I'm assuming this is the group to ask. I want to record on my iPad pro, through GarageBand. However, my (2018) Blue Snowball doesn't seem to be compatible. I plug it in through an adapter (usb-c hub), and the red light, on the mic, turns on...but nothing pops up on GarageBand or just the iPad pro itself.

So, are there any compatible microphones? Any advice is highly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance! :)

Looking to refurbish my 4th gen iPad

    Posted: 06 Feb 2021 12:29 PM PST

I've got a 4th generation iPad from 2012 that I found in storage and want to bring it back to life (A1458). I only want to use it for simple tasks like browsing Reddit and streaming videos. It's screen is cracked but I've replaced it before so I've no problem taking care of that.

The problem I'm running into is it's lack of speed and basic functioning of apps like chrome and YouTube. Can't seem to view YouTube videos from the app or stream videos from various sites. I've updated the software to 10.3.3 in hopes that would resolve this, but I'm at a loss.

I can see 4th gen iPads are being sold refurbished and have read that in theory they should work fine but that Apple will not offer support for any apps. I'm willing to go as far as replacing the screen and even the battery myself, but only if I can get this thing to function for such basic tasks.

I've even read somewhere that updating your iOS will make your iPad slower since the processor is older, and some have even mentioned jailbreaking older iPads to run earlier versions of iOS for better performance.

Does anyone have any advice for how to bring this thing back to basic functionality? I understand Apple wants me to just buy their newer iPads, but a new screen/battery won't set me out too far and I enjoy little projects like this. Again, just want to use it for simple web browsing and video streaming. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated.

keeping an old iPad2 going with rechargeable AA batteries?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2021 12:23 PM PST

My old iPad 2 is still kicking around, which I still use for various old 32-bit apps that either aren't available for the newer 64-bit machines, or for which new versions exist that I don't want to pay for again. (The point is, it's still useful!)

The only problem is, the battery is pretty dead, being from 2011, so it has to be left plugged in to work for more than an hour, and I probably need to finally replace the battery. Which got me thinking...

Has anyone seen or done, powering their iPad or similar mobile device with rechargeable AA or AAA batteries? (I realize this might require opening the thing up, and void a warranty that expired 9 years ago.) OR creating some kind of external battery pack, basically 4-8 AA or AAA batteries wired to a USB port that would power the iPad via a 30-pin charging cable?

Planned obsolesence has always annoyed me, and when devices come with a permanently installed rechargeable battery that inevitably will fail, necessiting either buying a new device or visiting a professional technician, I pretty much consider the device disposeable.

Has anyone had any luck with using standard rechargeable batteries to get around this?

Can I transfer files direct from camera to hard drive using an iPad?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2021 08:03 AM PST

Can I transfer files direct from camera to hard drive on an iPad?

Also will I need iPad storage space to do this? or will this process bypass onboard storage?

Im thinking I could get the Smart Keyboard and use the extra port to do this
