    Help me decide please M1 16gb MBA vs Baseline M1 MBP

    So basically, I need to upgrade my mid 2014 MBP.

    1) I upgraded to Big Sur and this is definitely pushing it to the limits... although I do like big sur, performance has slowed down.

    2) Battery life is bad... I get maybe 3 hours just surfing the web. Cant go anywhere without my charger... 1853 cycle count

    My two options right now are the fully loaded MBA 16gb RAM + 256 (or 500)gb storage 8 core for ~$1200 vs base model M1 MBP~ $1200. Upgrading the storage would make the air ~ $1500

    I use chrome and usually have 8 tabs open at all times open. I always use spotify. For work I use science-y third party applications like Flowjo, ApE, and Chromas for sequencing, and Zoom. Definitely not a video editor but my gut is telling me to get 16bg Ram because it will be an investment for the future. Can yall help me decide between these two options? I am wary of the fanless Air but it just seems like the better option... will upgrading to the 8 core MBA really improve performance to MBP levels? What do yall think? im sick of watching youtube videos lol

    MBA vs MBP for Lightroom

    Looking into this new M1 chip.

    Tossing up a Air or Pro.

    Would be getting 16GB RAM and 512GB regardless of type.

    Main use is Lightroom for photo editing along with some Topaz Lab products.

    Touch Bar isn't a deal breaker. Touch ID is on both of them.

    Is there any benefit to spending the extra money on the Pro compared to the Air for my uses?

    Use PD on Multi-port USB-C Hubs?

    Recently there has been issues with M1 macs being bricked because of PD.

    Would it be better to just use it normally when there is still warranty so that I'll be able to know whether my model is defected? Or should I just continue to avoid it?

    Has 11.2 fixed the wifi issues in M1 MBA?

    I am literally days away from buying the MBA M1, but I want to make sure that the wifi issues have been fixed in 11.2.

    If you have the issue and already have it fixed by 11.2, please let me know, because some say the 11.2 update did nothing for them

    M1 MBA or MBP for game development & coding?

    Hi everyone,

    I am a game development student and I am in need of a new MacBook. I have decided an M1 would be good for me as they're not too expensive (compared to 16" MacBook & iMac) but are still really powerful.

    I currently have a 2012 MBP and, while it's a beast for its age, I'm struggling with programs like Unity, which I need to use more as I get further into my degree.

    I need to be able to run Unity, and other programs like Visual Studio, IntelliJ, and PHPStorm etc. I also will most likely need to be able to run Windows, which I can do on Parallels VM. I won't install it unless I have to, but I need to have the option there.

    Which model do you think would best suit my needs? Would the base model Air be enough? Could I do with 16GB RAM instead of 8? What are your opinions? Please let me know.

    Should I update my 2015 MacBook Air?

    Mac unable to run 3440x1440 144hz with multiple adapters

    I've bought 3 adapters so far from amazon, and none of them have been able to run 3440x1440 at 144hz on the AOC CU34G2X. I've bought these 3 cables so far (USB C to Displayport)

    Unable to update my MacBook 2011

    I am trying to update my MacBook 2011 to a version where I am able to sync my new iPad to transfer photos but I am not able to update to 10.14. The MacBook is currently on 10.13.6 and whenever I open the down;pad of 10.14 it says this update cannot be downloaded........ someone plz help me out I need to transfer all my photos over to my laptop which will be my laptop replacement

    M1 MBP or wait for 2021 MBP?

    Hi, I'm wanting to upgrade from my 2017 MBP with 256 GB SSD due to lack of free storage space.

    Do I upgrade to the M1 MBP with more storage or buy an external SSD and wait for the 2021 MBP refresh that's expected in a few months?

    I need the free space to run applications, hence why I'm considering a full upgrade.

    Hi, i hope you can help me. My MacBook crashed and I have lost all my photos on my MacBook. About 5000 photos had been deleted is there any advice you can give me to get them back. Ive been told to get a data recovery software but it is so expensive for a fault that isn't mine. Any advice on getting my photos back they mean a lot. The response from apple support team has been very poor too i am not best pleased.

    M1 MBA 11.2 Kernel Panic?

    (MBP, not MBA, sorry)

    I installed the 11.2 update last night and so far today I've had a kernel panic three times when the Mac went to sleep. I wasn't having this issue before.

    Anyone else seeing anything similar? I have a web cam plugged into one USB-C port, and a hub in the other with connections from it to a monitor and time machine backup drive, as well as a BT dongle for my keyboard.

    MBP 2019 16 inch i9 16gb ram, 3 hours MAX on Zoom + firefox?

    I have at most 3-3.5 hours of battery life while on Zoom and Firefox at the same time, no other applications open. Does this sound normal for a fairly new 2019 MBP? I reset my SMC once and it seemed to help the battery life, but not by much. Would switching to Safari help?

    Buying the MBA M1 in a few days but the wifi issues concern me

    I am about to buy it after searching for a laptop for literally 3 months.. However the Bluetooth/wifi issues has been quite well known in the MBA M1, it seems that people still have issues with it even after updating to big sur 11.2.

    Do you personally have the issue?

    Will keyboard from 2004 work with my 2020 MBP?

    I've been looking at purchasing an older Apple keyboard to use with my 2020 MacBook Pro. The model I'm looking at is the Apple A1048 - it reminds me of my favourite Apple "era", I love the style of Apple products of that time.

    I'm wondering if it'll be compatible with a modern MacBook though? Pretty sure this keyboard is from like 2004, and it seems to have a weird shaped USB connector (it has a little indent on the underside)

    I have a USB-A to USB-C adapter already so I'm fine on that front.

    Is 442 cycles in one year on a 2019 13 inch MacBook pro bad?

    I checked my cycle count today and it showed that it was at 442. I use my MacBook pro daily and charge it daily. On weekdays I might end up charging it twice a day due to the heavy use of zoom. Is that an abnormal cycle count and how can I reduce the rate of increased cycles?

    Possible water damage or adapter connection issue

    A couple of days ago I spilt some water on my MacBook Pro was opened (and it was still working), I immediately cleaned the water off and left my Macbook upside down in between some kitchen paper for 4-6 hours to see if any excess what would come out. Since then my MacBook has been working fine I ran a diagnostics test and there were no issues.

    The next day I was using it as normal with my external monitor and adapter but whenever I wasn't I would leave it upside just in case.

    However today, my external monitor now starts to flicker whenever I connect it to any of the ports on my Mac. (I'm using a third-party HDMI adapter).

    I'm not entirely sure if this is to do with the water damage that may have occurred or because I'm using an HDMI third-party adapter. I've tried using the adapter on a different laptop and its the same outcome and I've tried using it on a TV and it comes up with the same issue but the adapter works with my IPad Air (2020).

    Does anyone know what would be the issue?

    MacbookPro mid 2014 bad Perfomance

    Got an old MacbookPro, mid 2014 with an i5 and 8GB ram, from my GF (to see if i like Macosx).

    The battery was bloated up, so i changed it right away.

    Then i had some trouble with the booting, also fixed it....

    Then as i wanted to use it, it started to drop its performance,

    its laggy af and everything is delayed.... (can't even browse the internet,Pinterest (eg) won't even load)

    I really wanna use this macbook cause im a windows guy but i want to switch to mac cause of the new M1 mbpro, so would be nice if we can fix this together.
