    Slow MacBook Air 2020

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 03:42 PM PST

Can someone tell me why my MacBook sounds like a fucking rocket ship about to take off when I have 3 tabs open. Anytime I have YouTube open, even if I'm not playing videos or even it's just in the background my Mac slows down dramatically. It doesn't make a difference if I'm using chrome or safari.

2018 Macbook pro (13) spacebar double spacing on single click.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 09:40 PM PST

Hello, I developed an issue with the space bar on my macbook. It has been double spacing when I click it once.

I contacted apple, they gave me the same info as their online solution "go to settings, adjust key repeat and sticky keys." Key repeat is all the way down, and turned sticky keys off. Yet even after that its still double spacing sometimes.

I used compressed air and cleaned the keyboard (Without removing keys, as Im not sure if I can without breaking one on the 2018 version). Does anyone have any suggestions?

Changing Icons on 2012 Macbook Pro

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 06:59 PM PST

I have been attempting to change the icons of my applications on my MacBook pro. I have some icons downloaded. I open them up in preview. I click edit-copy. I right click on the app. I select get info. I select the icon in the top left corner. I click edit--and then i can't click paste! Does anyone know why this would be? I was able to do it for my very first app and then no subsequent apps.

[Macbook Pro M1] Set independent scroll direction for trackpad and mouse

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 03:09 PM PST

I connected my Logitech Performance MX mouse to my new Macbook Pro M1 and noticed that the scroll is inverted. After playing around with the System Preferences, I realized that I cannot simultaneously have the trackpad scroll inverted and mouse non-inverted. I also am not able to install Logitech SetPoint(cause it's only for windows) to change my mouse settings there. Anyone have any suggestions? I am new to Mac

    Any (creative)architect using the M1 air/pro?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 12:08 PM PST

    Hey there,

i watched so many reviews on YouTube now, but they all seem to tell me that 90% of the world seems to use a macbook for YouTube content or render videos only.

As i couldn't find any review for either 3d modeling, rendering or just 2d drawing, i wanted to ask here.

So basically i am looking for people using one or all of these softwares:

    • PS, Illu, InDesign, LR(here i saw reviews, it seems just fine with m1) but what about Affinity s alternstives for photoshop/illu?

    • sketchup

    • rhino 3d

    • vectorworks 2d/3d

    • cinema 4d

    • blender

    • archiCad

    • Autocad

Please share your experience with the m1s if you work as an 'creative' architect, meaning working on competitions n not drafting alone :)

    Danke!

Almost 500GB of disk being written/read within 2 days of usage (M1 MBA, 8GB RAM 256GB)

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 06:51 AM PST

    Hello guys.

With just 2 days of usage, I've managed to read/write almost 500GB of my disk. With Syspolicyd taking up a whopping 160GB read alone. Activity Monitor

Anyone experiencing the same issue as me?

I have been using it mainly for web browsing with a few light gaming session. Will there be any cause of concerns over the longevity of the drive?

    Many thanks.

    MBA M1 skin

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 06:58 AM PST

Hi. Ive got a new MBA M1 on order and it will be my first Space Grey Mac. I've heard that it is slightly more prone to scratching so I was thinking of getting a skin (probably just for the lid). I've heard of Dbrand which are based in the States and was looking online for some other options a little closer to home. Not ruling Dbrand out, nice to have options to choose from.

So far I've come across Xtremeskins and easyskinz both based in the UK.

Has anybody any experience with either of these companies? Are they any good? Any problems with quality or ease of installation? Whichever I go with, it is important that the laptop doesn't get damaged should I wish to take the skin off.

    2017 Macbook Pro Battery Issue

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 02:45 PM PST

Let me know if I should post this somewhere else. I tried to search but couldn't find my exact issue.

Basically, about 2 months ago my 2017 Macbook pro that I bought at the beginning of 2018 suddenly started shutting off without any warning at 50% battery. It still takes charge fine when plugged in and the battery shows 50% when I plug it back in. I updated the software to Big Sur and then it started showing a service recommended notification under the battery icon.

I chatted with Apple support and they ran diagnostics to see what the problem was and said I should go in. After looking online, I tried resetting the SMC which did nothing. I just brought it into a repair shop (Apple authorized but not an Apple store) and he said I need to replace the battery and that it's $350.

Has anyone else had this happen? Is that a normal price to charge for a battery? Does anyone have any cheaper solutions? I had a PC before this computer so I'm wondering if it's normal for my battery to go to shit so quickly...?

Is the MBA 2020 intel battery really that bad?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 08:15 AM PST

I've been seeing lots of M1 posts recently and unfortunately I couldn't get the M1 MBA so I settled for the intel. I don't see any issues but the battery goes from 100 to 33 in 4 hrs while using google meet. Is this normal?

Wireless gets disconnected for m1 air when the Thunderbolt adapter with HDMI cable is plugged in..

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 09:42 AM PST

    Hi,

It was doing great for a few days and then suddenly MacBook m1 air wireless keeps disconnecting.

It happens when I use Thunderbolt 3 Adapter together with HDMI.

Once I unplug HDMI cable it works fine. If I move laptop or cable then sometimes it gets wireless back but it's 2x slower than without the cable.

I've read online that many people have issues with this, some of them put the foil around the HDMI cable, but I didn't buy this laptop to have this kind of issues.

What would be fix, if you ever had this issue?

Should I get macbook Pro or macbook Air? (same condition, price specs; 8gb 512ssd)

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 12:56 PM PST

I got M1 macbook air last week "open-box satisfactory" from bestbuy ($1125), I love it, its so quiet no fan. Today I check bestbuy and they have macbook pro same condition, specs and price ( just $10 extra).

I use finalcut pro alot, and so far macbook air is no problem. Should I exchange it??

I always buy openbox from bestbuy in the past. always happy.

    Ryzen 5000 vs. M1

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 12:54 PM PST

I'm in the market for a thin and light notebook and the first and most obvious contender was the Macbook Air M1 but there are also other windows pc that perform as good or even better than the M1 like Ryzen 4700U and honestly I'm pretty confused on whether to go for the Air or any other windows pc with an upcoming 5000 series or existing 4700U processors.

    M1 MacBook Air display contrast

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 11:51 AM PST

Received my M1 this week, upgrading from a 2012 but I'm noticing that the contrast is set too high even at the lowest levels. Streaming video is a particular issue as any dark scene lacks detail in the blacks and just looks overly dark.

I've also noticed that if I turn the contrast up (the only adjustments available) the display becomes unusably oversaturated even at 1-2 notches up. I'd be very surprised if this is a design choice I.e. the adjustment is intentionally pointless.

Is anyone else having this issue? I can post an image of what happens to the display when I increase contrast.

Going Back to Mac after 8 years

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 07:15 AM PST

My first ever laptops were Macbooks that my school let us use during the year (we gave them back for summer break so I can't say I had the same laptop for all 4 years), and I used them from 2008-2012. I absolutely adored the computers, never had any issues with them. Preview was amazing and nothing Windows has offered me so far has come close to how much I loved Preview. I cannot recall any audible fan noise and never felt like it over heated at any time, or really even feeling warm.

Then came college and my parents weren't willing to pay the Apple tax at the time, so we bought whatever Lenovo laptop Costco had at the time. I've been with Windows since then. I just put in my order for the base M1 air and cannot wait for it to arrive. That being said, what has changed with Mac OS in these past 8-9 years? Is it still gonna be as intuitive as it was back then? Any info or tips would be appreciated!

Use all in one pc as wireless monitor

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 10:59 AM PST

I know i know why not just plug in the monitor. I'm trying to keep my desk cleaner and use my MacBook to remote to my work computer so i can use work software and still have Mac functionality. Is there anything that would do this?

Early 2015 MacBook Pro | USB-C Hub to USB for Display

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 09:29 AM PST

I have a usb-c hub which has an HDMI connection to a monitor, I use this for my work MacBook which has usb-c. I also have an older macbook I would like to easily connect to, which just has regular usb. I see most usbc female/usb male do not support display transfer. Are there any that do? Bonus points if it can charge as well.
