Brand new MacBook M1’s screen went black randomly Posted: 30 Jan 2021 10:10 PM PST So weird? I was watching YouTube videos and then all of a sudden the audio started doing like a stutter. The screen went black and purple, then shut off and immediately turned back on to everything normal. Wtf just happened? The computer is barely a month old! [link] [comments]
Slight panic? Did i f up my laptop? Posted: 31 Jan 2021 12:54 AM PST I left my laptop half on my heatpad for no more than 40 minutes. I came back to my room and immediately removed it. The bottom didn't feel too hot, more like really warm or mildly hot, not even like actually that hot. Im guessing that's because a mac isnt heavy enough to press down on the heating pad too much if that makes any sense. Like if you press down on a heat pad you feel the heat alot more. Anyways is it possible I damaged my mac. Its got no case btw. I dont wanna like accidentally melt my lithium battery and die? Any signs to watch out for. In semi intense panic attack. Whats the possible damage done? Seems to be working fine so far. WILL IT EXPLODE? Ik i sound crazy but google is a really scary rabbit hole. Do heat pads even get hot enough to do damage? Looks the same as before to me but heres a pic in case: https://imgur.com/a/jOeqHOk Edit: Before anyone is mean again it was an accident and Im just a kid and I feel REALLY stupid so please dont rub it in. Posted: 30 Jan 2021 05:58 PM PST It runs perfectly fine, except that you can hear the fan running sometimes and it does get a bit hot (nothing too bad, just a bit warm when I use it). I've also had to replace the battery, but it's fine otherwise. I want to use this until it dies, but is there something I should know with owning a MacBook for this long? My files are no longer on the laptop itself, they're in a cloud location, and I have a Windows laptop for running heavier applications and games. I mainly use this laptop for admin stuff and writing. Any tips or advice? Should I get it checked because of it's age, despite the laptop working fine? I guess, another way of asking this is, how long can I use this laptop for? [link] [comments]

Isn't having a soldered SSD really risky? Posted: 30 Jan 2021 08:59 PM PST I'm considering jumping ship from Windows to an M1 Macbook Pro, but the one thing I can't get past is the soldered SSD. If anything happens to the Macbook, like if for some reason it can't turn on, the screen doesn't work, it turns on but turns off quickly afterwards, etc. your data is essentially locked to the device. You can't open the computer and take out the SSD and get your data back. There's only so much that cloud backups can do. I see this as a big risk, especially if you live and travel to countries without official Apple support locations anywhere. [link] [comments]
MacBook Pro 15-inch, Mid 2012 glitching. Posted: 30 Jan 2021 05:21 PM PST Hello all, My MacBook has been having these weird glitches lately, they're green and black, and affect only some of the screen, not all of it. I can't get a photo because it only happens for about 2 seconds, then the screen freezes and the Mac restarts. I ran an Apple Diagnostics test, assuming it was a hardware failure, but all I got was this: Error: 0x 8000000000000003, cannot load 'EFI/Drivers/TestSupport.efi'Status: 0x 00000003 - I also conducted s SCM reset, but the glitch continued to happen. Upon further research, I came to the conclusion that it maybe had something to do with the RAM not being installed properly, and I have to take it out and put it back in, which I would prefer not to do. I've had this Mac for quite a long time, and I take it on campus sometimes. I've never spilled any liquid on it, or dropped it. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? [link] [comments]
Mac book air 2017 or Mac Book Pro 2015? Posted: 30 Jan 2021 04:59 PM PST Which one is a better purchase? I saw an old post on here from 3 years ago all saying Mac Book pro 2015..but wondering now what the opinion would be? If it were needed for work..and the price is same between the two. Two External Monitors with Macbook Air? Posted: 30 Jan 2021 04:59 PM PST Hey Everyone, I have a 2019 Macbook Air. https://support.apple.com/kb/SP798?locale=en_CA I currently have this dock. https://www.cdw.ca/product/lenovo-thinkpad-thunderbolt-3-workstation-dock-gen-2-port-replicator-th/5832813?pfm=srh and TWO of these monitors. https://www.cdw.ca/product/lenovo-thinkvision-t23i-10-led-monitor-full-hd-1080p-23/4534549?pfm=srh My question is, will I be able to run TWO external monitors off this dock? I haven't tried as I am still waiting for this dock to arrive, i had a Lenovo USB-C gen 2 dock and that didn't work with two externals, I am assuming because it is USB-C and not thunderbolt 3. Can someone please help!!! [link] [comments]
Any suggestion on how to reinstall the OS on a macbook pro 2009? Posted: 30 Jan 2021 04:16 PM PST I have tried to stick in the snow leopard disks and while it reads the disk enough to give me the option of starting from the disk, when it starts to actually run off the disk it then gets into an endless loop of starting chiming, turning off the screen and then starting and chiming again. I'm guessing maybe the superdrive is screwed up... So I've tried to create a USB install with the DVD in a different mac, but the disk utility wont allow me to restore the DVD image it just gives me a validation error. I'm wondering if it is because the OS on the other mac is not compatible with the old snow leopard stuff as when I put the snow leopard disk into the other running mac it says the applications aren't compatible. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get these old macbook pro running again? The problem started when the old hard drive died. [link] [comments]
Are there any secrets to getting an 2020 M1 to display on a 21.5” Late 2015 iMac? Posted: 30 Jan 2021 12:29 PM PST I seem to be out of luck here with my particular iMac... [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Jan 2021 04:14 PM PST I bought AppleCare for my MacBook Pro last year March. I had to bring in my MacBook last week because it would not turn on at all. They couldn't even get the keyboard to light up in store. So my question, the customer service rep that I spoke to said that I get two repairs each year rather than two repairs over the three years (the entire warranty). Is this true? [link] [comments]
My MacBook is opening my videos at low quality Posted: 30 Jan 2021 03:22 PM PST I like to make YouTube gaming videos as a hobby, and I recently invested in a laptop for Twitch streaming, since MacBooks aren't the best for that. But I use Final Cut as my editing software. My streaming laptop saves my streams in 1920x1080p @ 60fps via OBS. I email the video to myself via Gmail, and gmail uploads the videos to Google Drive. The problem is that when they are uploaded to Google Drive, they are only uploaded in 320x240p, making them extremely distorted/blocky in final cut. My Mac is a 2019 Pro with a 2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7 processor and a Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB graphics card. Does anyone know how I could fix this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Jan 2021 03:13 PM PST Does anyone know of a good wireless external hard drive I could buy so I can download updates... I've no room for current update. Also is it possible to even run updates to an external drive? I need something that is time machine compatible and maybe 1TB? [link] [comments]
Any way to change the rewind / fast forward Touch Bar buttons to previous track / next track? Posted: 30 Jan 2021 02:30 PM PST I'm on an M1 MacBook Pro if that helps. I'd like to change this without any external tools if possible (I'm liking everything else about the Touch Bar) but if I need to then I will download an extension to change this instead. Need help with reinstalling macbook os! Posted: 30 Jan 2021 10:23 AM PST So I just got a new macbook yesterday, and I was resetting it and everything was going fine until I was in the recovery page to reinstall mac OS big sur and it started downloading however stopped midway and told me there was an error. If you search up ht211938 on apple support, this is the messege I get. Unfortunately I don't have another mac so I tried the last option on that page which didn't work. It doesn't say that I don't have enough storage but when I begin installing it says 494.38GB total and 494.22GB available (however small, still a slightly smaller storage left I guess) so it could be that I can't install because of not enough storage?? Literally have only used to for a few hours and obly downloaded a few apps (like spotify) before I tried to reset it, so I have nothing on it that needs kept, I just need to be able to use my laptop. It's a macbook pro 2020 version if that helps? I'm not sure if anyone can help, but any imput would be very much appreciated! Thank you so much! [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Jan 2021 02:05 PM PST Hello! I'm going to be purchasing a new MacBook Pro. On my current Pro I have 4 seasons of a TV show downloaded to the Apple TV app which is taking up 54.75 GB. How can I free up this space without permanently deleting the tv show? Thanks!! [link] [comments]
Anyone having issues with Macbook crashing after BIG SUR update (11.1)? Posted: 30 Jan 2021 01:43 PM PST Hi All, Ever since my Macbook updated to the latest Big Sur OS update, my macbook has been crashing randomly. Often when Im browsing on google chrome and also when my Macbook 'locks' or 'sleeps' it will actually end up just shutting down. When I reboot it says there was an error and if I'd like to send a report to Apple. My Macbook is standard spec: Processor: 1.3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 Memory: 8 GB 1867 MHz LPDDR3 Just keen to see if anyone has the same issue and whether there was a known fix? M1 MacBooks can run iOS apps but I can't find Affinity Photo on the App Store. Posted: 30 Jan 2021 01:40 PM PST So I've bought Affinity Photo on the iPad and was looking to use it on the M1 MacBook Pro, but can't seem to find it on the App Store. Does anyone know the reason why that'd be? Just for reference, I downloaded Lumafusion on the MacBook and it's working like a charm. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Jan 2021 01:35 PM PST In order to prolong battery life, is it better to put the computer in sleep mode and just restart the next day, or is it better to shut it down overnight? I was told with my old MacBook that it's best to not leave the computer charging and regularly let the battery drop to below 75%, before plugging back in. Needless to say that takes awhile with the new M1s, at least with my usage patterns, (and I even have MS Teams through Rosetta). Is this basically sound advice? [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Jan 2021 12:40 PM PST Simply put I just want to back up files to iCloud Drive, I recently got the 2 TB storage option and would like to have a cloud counterpart for my physical external HD back ups. It started out fine, I was able to upload a bunch of relatively heavy folders but then I noticed its taking up space on my Mac to store copies of those files instead of just sending them to the cloud. I get that before doing so it's storing that content from the external HDs into my Mac in order to send them to the cloud afterwards, but can't it just erase what's already uploaded? I don't need them in my computer since I already have physical back ups of everything, I don't even have enough SSD and internal HD space for all that to be stored, is there a way to just send everything to the cloud straight from my external HDs? I tried it with a windows machine with iCloud Drive installed, it does the same thing which in this case is fine because theres enough internal storage there but it never uploads anything, it's all just forever stuck on "pending sync" for days on end. I couldn't find much info on this online, at least nothing conclusive, there seems to be a range of similar issues but nothing that could really be informative enough for me to take steps into a solution, it might be my Mac "noobness" making me miss something so maybe putting this out there for people to chime in might be enlightening enough. Any two cents on the issue will be appreciated. I've been a lifelong windows user and recently got a late-2011 MacBook Pro and I'm struggling a bit with how things work. I'm not 100% noob since I had iPhones and iPads since 2014 so I'm somewhat familiar with the apple ecosystem, but I'm having trouble specifically with how iCloud works, even with my knowledge of it on iOS devices. Posted: 30 Jan 2021 05:57 PM PST I tried to pirate Adobe After Effects (the torrent name had "SadeemPC" in the title). I mounted the disk image and clicked the "installer". A couple of terminal windows opened and ran through something, another disk image was mounted, and an installer for Flash Player popped up. My dumbass installed that too. I uninstalled flash player as per here. I ran Malwarbytes and quarantined & deleted OSX.genieo, which I don't know if it's related to this or something separate. Anyways, right now, I'd really rather avoid having to reformat & set up my Mac again. Does anyone here have any experience with something like this or with "SadeemPC" specifically? What do you guys think? Also, would it be possible for any helpful tech-savvy folks out there to run the same torrent on a dummy mac or virtual machine to see what occurrs in those terminal windows? I tried running a virtual machine, but they don't work on M1 right now. [link] [comments] |
