Posted: 31 Jan 2021 01:46 AM PST I'm thinking about buying a macbook air M1, however, it's extremely important that rdp works perfectly well when being connected to Windows pcs/servers. Could please someone try it out and give a note about performance? How about window moves, mouse/keyboard delays? A video would be awesome 👌 Thanks! [link] [comments]
Big Sur: System Preferences Admin password not working Posted: 31 Jan 2021 01:44 AM PST When I try to unlock admin access it says password is incorrect which is obviously a bug if the password worked to open my Mac. Any advice? [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Jan 2021 01:22 AM PST Running a VM with Arch and QTile WM. QTile depends heavily on Meta+(key) for commands. Meta is defined as either Win or Command key. Some combos work fine, example is Meta+enter to open a new windows. Others does not work, MacOS intercept them, like Meta+space or Meta+tab, which open the MacOs function instead. Surely there is a setting in parallells that manages this, but I can't find it! Big Sur and newest Parallells, Logitech kombo/unified receiver. [link] [comments]
Applications/Install macOS Catalina.app does not appear to be a valid OS installer application Posted: 30 Jan 2021 11:40 PM PST Hey all - So I am trying to create a bootable usb drive of catalina. I went to Mac's app store and downloaded Catalina without installing it on the computer (I actually want to install it on a different computer). I then opened terminal and typed "sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Catalina.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled" "Untitled" being the name of the usb drive. I am getting this message: /Applications/Install macOS Catalina.app does not appear to be a valid OS installer application. What am i doing wrong? This worked yesterday and for reasons I won't bore you with, I erased the usb drive. The "Install MacOS Catalina" file that is now sitting in my applications folder is only 13 MB. Did it not download the whole file? If not, how do i get it to do that? I'm running High Sierra on the computer am working with. [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Jan 2021 02:21 PM PST The Big Sur requires 12gb data to update, does it take up 12gb MORE than catalina already takes up? Can't move around folders on my drive Posted: 30 Jan 2021 09:09 PM PST I'm organizing my hard drive and came across a folder (that's tucked into another folder) can't be moved and arranged the way I like, they seem to be locked in place. Any solution to this? [link] [comments]
Parallels Desktop lost pvm file Posted: 30 Jan 2021 07:15 PM PST Hi, I installed the latest version of Parallels Desktop and I was at the point of installing Windows 10 on a new pvm file. Everything was fine, except one thing: the folder at Users/Parallels was empty! (by default there is the pvm file located). That was the first run of Windows 10 and I had not shut down them yet, so I was scared that when I shut down Windows, I will not be able to start them again. Well, that was the case! I shut down Windows. Parallels showed the Windows 10 icon with the start (play) button on top of it. I right clicked and then clicked show in finder to locate the missing pvm file. Parallels opened finder at the user folder without showing any pvm file! I closed Parallels and when I opened it again, it prompt me to install an operating system, like I have not installed anything! So my problem is, I installed Windows 10, Parallels had Windows 10 on the operating system list but when right clicked and clicked show in finder It got me just on the users folder (without any pvm file) and after restarting Parallels the Windows 10 OS was gone completely! On the other hand, my disk space has around 15GB more space taken, so the pvm file must be somewhere! I tried enabling showing hidden files on the finder, searching "pvm" on Spotlight, of course restarting the Mac but nothing!! I can't find that pvm file that takes 15GB of my space!!! Can anyone help me please?? I'm running macOS 11.1 [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Jan 2021 06:48 PM PST I've got a Lenovo FHD Webcam and it does not have any native drivers for MacOS and I was wondering if there any apps I can use to fine tune my webcam (zoom, lighting etc)? [link] [comments]
A text-based (git-like?) interface to MacOS Time Machine (or even APFS snapshots)? Posted: 30 Jan 2021 12:34 PM PST I'm glad Time Machine is there, but I hate using the GUI interface of Finder slowing moving back in time. Is there a text-based interface where I could see a log of the versions of a file available in Time Machine (or even APFS snapshots, now that we have those), see diffs, restore different versions, etc.? [Big Sur / Corsair iCUE] High memory usage and lag seemingly tied to Corsair RGB keyboard Posted: 30 Jan 2021 06:01 PM PST TL;DR Very strange high memory issue seems to be caused by the iCUE or keyboard animation software. Only noticed on Big Sur. This causes my iMac to become laggy and unusable after ~6 hours' uptime. Does anybody else have any tips or experience? Hardware specs
Background Ever since upgrading to Big Sur, I have noticed an extreme lag problem. Essentially, the memory usage on my computer becomes inordinately high. Whereas, on Catalina, I would leave my computer on for weeks or months (just sleeping when not in use), on Big Sur the computer becomes virtually unusable after a few hours' use. The computer memory use gets higher and higher over the course of the day. The RGB animations on my K70 appear to be the "canary in the goldmine", as I will first notice stuttering and lag on the rainbow swirl effect as I perform tasks that require processing power (e.g. switching / loading tabs or opening apps). [Example: https://imgur.com/S9hvPP5. Note the lags in the animation when I was switching tabs/apps] Eventually, the computer becomes unusable and needs to be restarted. (E.g. YouTube videos will not play with any audio, or Spotify/podcasts will cut out and not play, the computer will hang on basic word processing tasks). [Example: https://imgur.com/YgEsz3i. Note the extremely high memory usage versus apps that are actually open] A restart will fix the lag for approximately 6 hours or so, until the memory usage creeps up again (then rinse and repeat). Through isolation testing, I have found that this issue only occurs when my Corsair K70 is connected. Diagnosis I have been working with Apple over the past few weeks, and have taken the following steps:
By using different peripherals (as well as the steps described below), I have isolated the issue to being iCUE / my Corsair RGB keyboard. Apple has said I need to reach out to Corsair, and Corsair have yet to get back to me. Question: Does anybody else have experience with a similar issue, or insight as to whether there are other things at play that could be causing this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Jan 2021 05:58 PM PST I tried to pirate Adobe After Effects (the torrent name had "SadeemPC" in the title). I mounted the disk image and clicked the "installer". A couple of terminal windows opened and ran through something, another disk image was mounted, and an installer for Flash Player popped up. My dumbass installed that too. I uninstalled flash player as per here. I ran Malwarbytes and quarantined & deleted OSX.genieo, which I don't know if it's related to this or something separate. Anyways, right now, I'd really rather avoid having to reformat & set up my Mac again. Does anyone here have any experience with something like this or with "SadeemPC" specifically? What do you guys think? Also, would it be possible for any helpful tech-savvy folks out there to run the same torrent on a dummy mac or virtual machine to see what occurrs in those terminal windows? I tried running a virtual machine, but they don't work on M1 right now. [link] [comments]
Question re: Reinstalling Catalina from a bootable drive Posted: 30 Jan 2021 04:56 PM PST I upgraded a new iMac to Big Sur and hate it. Am going to go back to Catalina. I created a bootable drive of Catalina and am now wiping my hard drive to prep for the reinstall. But when I open Disk Utility, I get Macintosh HD and Macintosh HD- Data under the heading "Internal." I also get the external bootable drive listed under "External." But then there is also something called "macOS Base System" under "Disk Images." I erased Macintosh HD and Macintosh HD-Drive but my question is, what is "macOS Base System," and do i erase that as well? I googled it and it seems like it's some kind of partition drive but I can't figure out if it's related to the external Catalina bootable drive I have plugged in. [link] [comments]
APFS not a format option for external SSD running 10.4.6 Mojave? Posted: 30 Jan 2021 04:30 PM PST According to Apple's docs APFS formatting should be available to drives in 10.3 or later. But as you can see in this screenshot APFS is not an option for a 2Tb Samsung T7 external SSD: the only options are ExFAT (what it came formatted as), MS-DOS (FAT), Mac OS Extended (Journaled), and Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled). I want to clone my 2017 iMac's internal drive (which has some bad sectors) to this SSD and use the SSD as the boot drive, but my understanding is that I ought to be formatting it as APFS. (Since the internal drive is having some issues I'd prefer not to try doing an OS update to Big Sur at this moment.) Suggestions? [link] [comments]
I heard there are blur issues in Big Sur on 1080p monitors? Posted: 30 Jan 2021 04:15 PM PST Hello! I ordered a Mac Mini a few days ago and am really looking forward to it, but I've just come to find out there is some kind of blurring issues on text and such with 1080p monitors? How big of an issue is this? Is it fixable? If I'm used to using my computer in 720p anyways am I even going to notice? [link] [comments]
