My MacBook Air keeps freezing all the time, what can I do? Posted: 31 Jan 2021 08:00 AM PST I have a MacBook Air (13 inches, early 2015) bought at the end of 2016, so I've been using it for 4 years. It's currently running Mojave and has still 42 GB of free space (out of 128 GB). Lately it freezes so often that is getting hard to keep using it, and I need to force it to show down by holding the power button. This usually happens when I have 2/3 windows open at the same time, for example if I'm browsing on safari and I'm also FaceTiming. Is there something I could do to fix this? [link] [comments] |

I accidentally switched regions and I can’t switch back Posted: 31 Jan 2021 09:50 PM PST I accidentally switched regions to the uk(us native) and I tried to download an app but it said my device was not able to purchase things in the uk. I thought "no biggie, I'll switch back" I go to the official apple website and find the page on how to switch regions. I do every step just to be told I can't switch since I have credit in my account, I think, forgetting 10 seconds ago "no biggie I'll just download a cheap game" and then I got the pop up saying I can't purchase item because I am not in the correct region. I can’t reset my screen time passcode?!?? Posted: 31 Jan 2021 07:05 PM PST Hi so I'm trying to reset my screen time passcode because I don't even remember setting it. I've tried to use the Apple ID thing to recover it but that never works. Any one else have this problem? (I'm trying to reset it on my iPhone 7 running 14.2) [link] [comments] |

iCloud storage vs iPhone storage? Posted: 31 Jan 2021 11:58 AM PST I have an iPhone 11Pro. iOS 14.3 (I have a new one to install, but I don't think that's the issue) So I ran out of cloud storage and upgraded to the bigger plan, but it's telling me I can't film anything and I can't download apps and whatever. I completely understand that the cloud is not device storage and I fully understand the difference - my question is how do I store my videos and photos on the cloud without keeping them on my device? I kind of thought it would upload everything to the cloud for me and then it would offload things that I don't use on its own as it needs space but that doesn't seem to be happening. When I go to manage storage it wants me to delete old texts and stuff but I don't want to. I want to pay them to keep my media on the cloud rather than on my device so I can still have free space. Is this not how it works? If not then what's the point of the additional cloud storage if I can't store more than my device holds and I still have to delete media to film? I did a bunch of searches on Google and I can't find anything about how to do this and I'm starting to wonder if I'm wasting my money even having the additional cloud storage. My phone also says it's paused uploading files to the cloud and when I click resume it just doesn't do anything. Am I misunderstanding how the cloud works? I thought it would work like Google docs. Posted: 31 Jan 2021 10:28 PM PST I'd like to order a new MacBook and even though my local Apple Store is open and on their store specific page says that they're open for in-store pickup, the Apple website will not let me choose to pick up in store (it says unavailable for pickup). I only get the option for delivery, which I don't want. If I pick other Mac computers/laptops/configurations, it says available for express pickup. I'm assuming it's saying unavailable to pickup because they don't have it in stock, but that doesn't explain why it couldn't just be shipped to the store for me to pickup whenever it came in. I don't feel comfortable at all having a $2000 computer left unattended, which almost always happens for packages that arrive here and there's a high likelihood of theft. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jan 2021 06:14 PM PST For the past two days, CBS has been showing up in my screen time for 15 hours. I have never downloaded the app or proactively visited the web site on a browser. It's even weirder because it says I used CBS between 6 AM - 6 PM, but I go to bed at around 11 pm and don't unlock my phone until 7:30 am, so I could have never possibly used CBS at 6 am. Should also note that I leave my phone on airplane mode overnight and shut all apps before sleeping. None of this adds up. Nobody else uses my phone but me. My screen time is usually 3-5 hours a day but all of a sudden it's saying 20 hours because of CBS. Does anyone know if my phone could have been hacked? Or is this some sort of bug? It's very unsettling. Thanks. [link] [comments] |

Prohibitory sign after restoring hard drive Posted: 31 Jan 2021 12:24 PM PST MacBook won't turn on after I restored the hard drive. Tried all the commands, doesn't work, just shows a prohibitory sign. What do I do? [link] [comments] |
I suddenly got a video of a camera playing on my phone out of nowhere while reading comics Posted: 31 Jan 2021 07:09 PM PST Long story short I was reading comics on WEBTOON, and a video popped up on my screen. It's a red-ish brown colored camera in a white place and slowly turning towards me, kinda freaky tbh. When it was playing I quickly swiped it away but it came back and played until the end. I restarted the app and nothing was happening anymore. I have covered the front camera with clay. I'm sure it's not related to the comic I'm reading because none of the comments addressed this. What is this and how can I avoid it? [link] [comments] |

An important discussion regarding this years’ M1 MacBook Air and Pro. Posted: 31 Jan 2021 07:04 PM PST By now, it is generally acknowledged that M1 powered MacBook Air and MacBook Pro 13 are very close performance-wise and overall user experience wise this year. Many still wonder whether they should buy MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, whether they should get 8Gb RAM or 16Gb RAM and last but not least, whether 7 GPU cores lag noticeably behind 8 GPU cores. (Not me, unfortunately, since I have been too impulsive and bought an Intel powered model which I now regret as it is very hard to resell my Mac at a reasonable price in the midst of pandemics.) In my experience, those on a tighter budget are most frequently willing to compromise on storage. But to get to the point right away, where I am currently at, MacBook Air with 7 GPU cores, 8Gb RAM and 256Gb SSD costs 1129€, whereas MacBook Pro 13 with 8 GPU cores, 16Gb RAM and 256Gb SSD costs 1679€. There are no less than four M1 powered models in between these two. I summarize the prices here for reference and clarity. I believe there is a similar pricing scheme in other countries and many will find this useful: i) Air, 7 GPU cores, 8Gb RAM, 256Gb = 1129€; Now that we have had some time to use M1 powered Macbooks, I believe certain things have already been established, right? On that note, how consequential is each of the three choices / decisions as regards to performance and even all around user experience: —MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro, which would be a major differentiator between iii) and iv); Finally, while we're at it, is there a single winner overall in terms of value for money among the six, generally recommended to most, or is it indeed very convoluted? Thanks in advance and I hope many others will find this useful. [link] [comments] |
“Can’t establish a secure connection to the server” message Posted: 31 Jan 2021 07:01 PM PST So I downloaded a antivirus scan app in my MacBook Air and I scanned it, I deleted all the detected stuff and then deleted the app because of storage. But when I went to open my safari none of the searches work and only the "can't establish a secure connection to the server" message appears. My wifi is working and it says it's on. My Spotify doesn't play songs either. So I don't know what is happening. I tried to search what to do on my phone but i still don't know what to do. [link] [comments] |
USB devices won't mount - com.apple.diskarbitrationd not running (2014 MacBook Pro on 11.1) Posted: 31 Jan 2021 06:59 PM PST I can't get USB devices to mount to my MacBook Pro unless they are plugged in at the time it boots. Even then the device can't be re-mounted after being removed. I've tried this with a flash drive, an external hard drive, and an SD card all with the same results. I've also tried with and without a USB hub. Nothing appears on the desktop, nothing appears in Disk Utility, and nothing is showing up in System Profiler. After some digging, it appears that
I'm wondering if launchd is somehow not running the disk arbitration daemon, but I can't (or more likely don't know how to) find out how/why. Any help is appreciated. Obviously rebooting with devices connected is a workaround, but not a great one. FWIW I've tried a PRAM reset and a SMC reset just in case, to no avail. All thoughts are welcome! [link] [comments] |
macbook air screen marks/chips (not stains) Posted: 31 Jan 2021 06:45 PM PST MacBook Air 2018 and recently noticed these 5 marks on the glass screen. When super up close, the glass definitely feels 'compromised' with perfect tiny circle marks. Around 1-2mm diameter. Discolouration spans out another 1-2mm around the mark itself. There is also matching discolouration on the metal to the right of the trackpad. No idea how they appeared - generally keep MacBook immaculate. Marks don't seem to be impacting the display itself. Gently pushed on/around the circle marks and no interference with display. Any seen this before? Any advice? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jan 2021 02:55 PM PST Hey all, I hope this is the right place for this. I'm attempting to install windows 10 on my new M1 MacBook, using the insider versions of parallels and windows 10. The installation seems fine, but instead of booting into the desktop after installation, it boots me immediately into the login screen for an account titled "defaultuser0". I can't seem to find any information, and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. Any help would be greatly appreciated! 👏🏼 Edit: This is what I see immediately once the installation through parallels is complete. https://imgur.com/EzUmWRS [link] [comments] |
