Does "Battery Health" feature decrease the battery health ? Posted: 30 Nov 2020 11:57 PM PST I've been using Battery Health feature introduced in 10.15.5 that aims to extend the battery lifespan since day one. I also use coconut battery to monitor my battery's health status, since then full charge capacity has been decreased to 88% with 37 cycle count - I mostly use my MBP plugged in. Does this have anything to do with Batter Health feature being enabled ? Should I be worried ? Apple says; When battery health management is turned on, your battery's maximum charging capacity might be limited. Although the feature is designed to improve your battery's lifespan, the limited maximum capacity might update your battery status menu to indicate a need for service. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Dec 2020 03:35 AM PST Does Pages have Find And Replace with format function? I mean, does it have the ability to find and change the font colour (or whatever formatting change) of all instances of a word in the document? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Dec 2020 03:26 AM PST So I am curious about a few things and just wanted to know what people thought. Outside of coding and compiling apps what third party apps do you use and why? I believe I have 3 maybe 4 third party apps on my iMac and almost none on my IPad and of course a ton on my phone but I wanted to know what everyone else was using and why? Stuff like this: What features or those apps are you needing that apple doesn't provide? Why are you using them instead of native software? I ask this because I find myself always going back to the native apps (except excel vs numbers for data analysis) because they do all the things that the third party apps do and in many cases in a smoother fashion. Regardless I just would like to hear people's thoughts. [link] [comments]

Should I update to Big Sur yet or stick with Catalina? Posted: 01 Dec 2020 02:14 AM PST Have any of the various bugs we see on here been fixed? Many people mentioned overheating, slowing down, fans running at max speeds, laggy animation, and worst of all for me, the fact that when using an external monitor, the windows don't go back to where they were before disconnecting the external monitor. I am really excited about this update but am quite weary especially since I heard rumors that this is because Big Sur is specifically optimized for M1 chips rather than intel Macs. Is this true? And are all those bugs still out there? I own a 2018 Macbook Pro 13 inch. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Dec 2020 02:08 AM PST So when I try to plug in the Mouse, I do not read the instruction, so it recognizes it as a keyboard, so I click my keyboard instead of my mouse, then I don't recognize the mouse. After that, I try to change the battery, it is the same thing happen again. so I try to read the instruction, https://jtechdigital.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000166154-How-To-Pair-Wireless-Vertical-Mouse-to-USB-Transceiver, then I try it on another Windows 10 computer, it recognizes it. but when I try it again on my Mac, it doesn't work. I try to contact J-tech, they do not give any solution, because they told me that the mouse driver (showing up as a keyboard) need to may need to be reinstalled on your Mac. Can anyone provide me with instructions on how to uninstall a mouse/keyboard driver? Macbook Pro 2010 - shuts down (overheating CPU?) Posted: 01 Dec 2020 01:33 AM PST Hi all, Since last week I am having troubles with my Macbook Pro 2010 (A1286 i guess). It randomly shuts down when using it for 5-10 minutes. Using Dr. Google I found out I possibly needed the re-apply the thermal paste of the CPU under the heat sink. But I first want to know if other users of Macbook have noticed this problem. Anyone have advice on how to solve this? (Allready changed the fans, battery and HD to SSD a year ago. So would rather not give up on the Macbook) Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Dec 2020 12:59 AM PST Hi, I'm new to both mac and this subreddit, so I'm sorry if I sound hopeless. I got a Macbook pro 2015 from my brother, that he's had sitting unused in a drawer for a couple of years. Its hard drive was formatted, so I needed to reinstall macos, which seemed like it should be pretty straight forward. It downloaded and started installing just fine (el capitan) but right at the end it says the installation fails. My partner had an external drive with an install-file on it, and the macbook recognized the drive and its partitions just fine, but wouldn't open any of them. So he emptied the drive, formatted it and tried to make a boot-disk from his own iMac - but he's running big sur and just gets a message that the drive cannot be restored because of a broken seal (which the Internet tells me is apparently a common bug) So. I'm stumped. Any and all suggestions welcome. The macbook is useless right now, so I'm not really scared of messing stuff up... [link] [comments]
Blinking folder with question mark Posted: 30 Nov 2020 04:13 PM PST I was doing some homework. Suddenly, my mac froze and crashed. I rebooted and was presented with this blinking folder with a question mark. I was so confused, I didn't erase an entire drive or something crazy like that before it happened. Weird. I watched a ton of videos on YouTube that had to do with this. I tried their solutions... didn't help so much. I might've made the issue even worse. I booted into Internet Recovery (Command + Option + R), got into Disk Utility, and erased "disk2s1". I was desperate and didn't care about losing all my data. I just wanted to be able to use my MacBook again. I keep trying to mount this disk after erasing it and it says "Could not mount "disk2s1". (com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter.error-119930868.) Any solutions? It would be nice to get a quick one. I have multiple assignments due tomorrow that I can only complete using this MacBook... [link] [comments]
(Big Sur) Night Shift and DND from Notification Center? Posted: 30 Nov 2020 09:00 PM PST Catalina had toggles for DND and Night Shift right in the Notification Center, I'm wondering if Big Sur's Noti Center has a new alternative? I'm able to toggle DND with an option+click of the date/time, is there a similar shortcut for Night Shift? [link] [comments]
[HELP NEEDED] CATALINA downgrade back to Sierra with Time Machine Backup Posted: 30 Nov 2020 05:25 PM PST I decided yesterday that I wanted to upgrade my Logic Pro X to the new 10.6.0 version and pulled the trigger on the system update from my trusted Sierra. After the install, I noticed that all of my trusted 32-bit plugins now aren't working anymore on Catalina and Logic Pro X (the 10.6.0) seems to freeze when I start the app. The last backup that I made with Time Machine was last year around this date and it's stored on an connected external Hard Drive. What would be the best way to downgrade back safely using time-machine backup? Also my external harddrive(s) with the backup don't seem to pop up when I command+R into recovery mode > time machine. Any thoughts on how to fix this? Thank you! [link] [comments]

LTspice compatibility on MacOS Big Sur Posted: 30 Nov 2020 08:38 AM PST Hello all, I apologize if this is the wrong place to be asking, but I just wanted to know if anyone has tried running LTspice in Big Sur (and MATLAB as well). I need those for a few classes next semester and I'm thinking maybe I should hold off on my update until I finish that semester. Thank you for your help! [link] [comments]
Question re transferring stuff (Mail) from one Mac to another Posted: 30 Nov 2020 06:02 PM PST Hey guys, Sorry if this is in the wrong place!! When I buy a new iMac next year, I will be using the migration assistant to transfer all my stuff from my current iMac to the new one. I'm curious; does it also transfer all my mail folders in my Mac Mail application, including little things like my email signatures, and settings? Thanks so much guys. [link] [comments]
new imac with preloaded Big Sur vs. catalina with update Posted: 30 Nov 2020 09:01 PM PST I bought a new 27" iMac on 11/18 - a week after the release of Big Sur. It was a custom build. I fully expected to receive a computer with Big Sur installed on it. Instead, it has Catalina, and it's prompting me to update to Big Sur. I'm pissed. Question: Is there a real difference between a unit with Big Sur preloaded and one where I upgrade from Catalina? Should I return the computer? If I do a clean install of Big Sur from a bootable usb drive would that be just as good? [link] [comments]
Desktop folders suddenly empty-Macbook pro/El capitan Posted: 30 Nov 2020 04:44 PM PST Hi, One day my laptop run out of battery, after the restart I noticed desktop background was set to generic(old one was stored in folder on desktop). I only now realised all my desktop folders are empty-can't see the contents in finder, or anywhere. I'm logged in as a correct (admin) user with right permissions; I did recovery of files in recovery option, and I'm not using iCloud(but I checked and desktop/documents wasn't even there as an option to tick). When I start computer to choose the user, I can see that the blurry background photo that is showing is the one that has disappeared from my user desktop background /folder with the rest of files-so I'm hoping I can still find it somewhere. Any ideas where to look/what to do? Thanks [link] [comments]
Volume up not working on touch bar on new MBP16 Posted: 30 Nov 2020 04:05 PM PST Like the title says, when I try to use the volume up button on the Touch Bar, it doesn't work. Volume down works, the volume slider works, and if I hold fn and hit fn12 the volume goes up. It's just the volume up button that doesn't work. I've tried restarting the computer and restarting the Touch Bar. Any other ideas of what could be going on? Anyone else had this problem? [link] [comments]
