Authenticate your passport with your iphoneX and machine learning Posted: 25 Nov 2020 12:14 PM PST I created an app that can read and verify the personal data on passports using the secure chip embedded inside. The app works by first using the camera to scan the passport's data page, a step that is needed because the key used for reading the embedded chip is constructed out of the visible printed passport data. Then it will read and verify the embedded chip and display the extracted information. Here is a 30 second demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTdpOcG1NSw I am looking for users/testers with different passports to try it out. I wanted to see if my weekend hackathon project actually works or if it is only my passport and my friends that works. I made some speed improvements/bug updates. The app is available for both iOS and Android and requires an NFC-enabled device (most modern Android devices and all iPhones starting with the iPhone 7 are NFC-enabled). You will also need a biometric passport (sometimes called electronic passport) that you can read. Most modern passports issued today are biometric passports, and you can verify this by looking for a microchip icon usually printed on the passport cover. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/biometric-passport-reader/id1510585886 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.iris Feel free to use an invalid passport, the app does not send any personal data, and it has been manually reviewed by Apple and Google [link] [comments] |
Considering an iPhone X Late 2020 Posted: 25 Nov 2020 02:14 AM PST Hey yall, I am currently on a iPhone 7, my Microfone doesn't work and it is beginning to get really slow. I have found an Refurbished iPhone X 64GB for 400 USD, is it still a good pick? I want to keep it for around 1,5 - 2 Years. [link] [comments] |

iPhone XS Silicone case on iPhone X Posted: 25 Nov 2020 02:36 PM PST Hey guys anyone has a pic of how the iPhone XS Silicone case fit on an iPhone X? I read a lot about that camera gap at the bottom but I can't find any picture. I'm asking that since I bought it and I have an iPhone X (the case was only 9,99€) Thank you [link] [comments] |
Switch to iPhone 12 Mini, because of... reasons Posted: 25 Nov 2020 10:36 AM PST Ok I did it. I've wanted to keep the X. It's lagging a bit here and there, but still speedy. BUT after it fell on my face during last night, I finally pulled the trigger. The X was phenomenal, but it was always a little too big tbh. I have it for 3 years now, but I still misclick here and there. So I went to the store a few mins ago and bought the 12 Mini. I think I will keep the X for playing competitive mobile games at home.🤔 [link] [comments] |
Refurbishing my iPhone X - Need advice from DIYers Posted: 25 Nov 2020 07:37 AM PST Refurbishing my iPhone X - Need advice from DIYers To start, I am very handy and I know how to disassemble and reassemble an iPhone X. I have the tools and workspace to do so. I own an iPhone X since February 2018. As of today, the phone still operates just fine however phones has several problems: (1) the battery is at 74% health, (2) the screen has the black circle dead pixels near the notch, (3) the screen tends to have power surges where it would flash completely green for several seconds, and most importantly (4) FaceID and front facing camera portrait mode does not work at all - even though the front facing camera works and I can take normal photos. I would like to do all the repairs myself so I am asking the community for the best tips and tricks for finding iPhone X parts. I need: -1. New Battery -2. New FaceID and/or Dot Projector and IR -3. New or Refurbish good OLED screen Essentially, I would like to make my phone look, feel, and work like brand new. [link] [comments] |
Problem with antenna or motherboard? Posted: 25 Nov 2020 04:56 AM PST Hello all! I have an Iphone X with about 87% of battery health which I have since Jan 2020. This device was a refurbished deviced, so it was basically as new. A few days ago, I started having an issue with it which started with random resets especially while browsing safari. After having this, all of the sudden, it lost service connection. At first, I thought it would be a software issue so I proceeded with a backup and afterwards a restore of the iphone. While restoring I accepted the latest update which I believe is 14.2 or 14.3. After restoring and updating, same connectivity issue persisted. As I thought maybe the software file could be corrupted I opted to download another software on the internet and install it on the device in the DFU mode. Same connectivity problem. All of the above mentioned processes, were in order to know if it was a software problem. At the end, I can see that it is more of a hardware problem instead. Now, I am requesting repair services and I am speaking with some companies and one of them is telling me that it seems more of a motherboard problem rather than GSM antenna. Has anything like this happened to any of you? How do I avoid getting scammed by these repair shops that claim motherboard issue rather than gsm antenna? (In case it is a antenna issue). PS. As I had to restore the phone as new, I have to go through the process of reactivating it again. During this process an error pops out that claims servers are not available even though I checked them and they are available. So this problem is also preventing my device from activating. I am asking for you expertise on the field and help in order to fix my device! Thank you all for taking your time to read me. Best regards! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Nov 2020 05:09 PM PST So I got my iPhone X at 81% . It's still running great but I am looking a battery replacement. There is no apple store in my country or any apple service. I am thinking of buying an ifixit battery kit and replace my battery. But I still don't know if that's gonna be. alright or not. I am kinda confused. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Nov 2020 08:11 PM PST Any recommendations on where to sell my iPhone X that's in perfect condition? I recently replaced the battery with Apple so it's 100% and have four Apple leather cases to go with it. I was going to keep the X as back up but I now have an iPhone 12 and mini (for work) so no reason to have a back up... [link] [comments] |
