Macbook M1 Air 512 GB or Pro 256 GB? Posted: 30 Nov 2020 12:51 AM PST Hey guys! I know a lot of people have been asking the same question, but I'm really not sure what to do. I will be using the laptop as my main machine for uni stuff, browsing, Netflix, word, powerpoint, basically nothing heavy. And also, I am not playing any games. I am planning to use the macbook for years, so I wanna make sure I'm doing the right choice. Right now I have more than 10.000 photos and videos on my iPhone, so I'm wondering if 256 gb on a macbook is enough space for me? PS I love the touch bar on the pro, but paying the extra money only for it isn't worth it I guess. [link] [comments]
Upgrade SSD on Late 2013 MBP 13" Posted: 30 Nov 2020 04:22 AM PST Hi! My MBP Late 2013 13" Retina (Model MacbookPro11,1) is getting kind of slow. I'm not looking for a new one currently. I feel the slowness especially when browsing on websites like Youtube and Facebook. I'm using Firefox but its not much better on Safari either (slight improvement, still slow) Will upgrading the SSD help? Sadly RAM is soldered and from what I can tell OC is not an option on Macbooks. My current speeds are very slow: 200-250MB/s write and 370-400MB/s read. If the SSD will help, how big of a difference is there between the two options over at OWC? The difference is very small, but import fees in my country start at over 75$ so for the cheaper one I don't have to pay, and for the other one I'll need to pay 17% on the entire price of the product. If someone have other suggestions I'll be happy to hear! Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Nov 2020 11:28 PM PST Hi! As a new Mac user, I was wondering what the best way is to charge a MacBook. I use it for the uni and I do go the library (yes, it's open) everyday. But when I'm home do I have to leave it on the charger? And do I have to minimalize my cycle counts for the longevity of the batteries? And can I charge it up till 100% everytime? I just want to make sure I'd charge it the right way as I'm planning to use my MacBook for quite some time haha. Thanks for replying in advance! [link] [comments]

Will your M1 MacBook make you game more? Posted: 30 Nov 2020 01:22 AM PST We all know macOS has been less than ideal for gaming in the past. It will be interesting to see if the M1 generation of Macs sees games written specifically for the new architecture to eke out max performance from that saucepot of a chip. That WoW is being written specifically for ARM made me think - could more devs do something similar? Possibly. What if future Macs introduced 120Hz screens? Imagine that... one laptop to rule them all! [link] [comments]

Accidentally deleted Macintosh HD disk Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:26 PM PST So I was trying to reset my MacBook and I accidentally deleted the startup disk. I don't really care about recovering data, I just want the mac to start up. When I open it up normally, it just shows a folder with a question mark, and when I try to install a new version of OSX, there's no disk to install it in. I'm trying to create a new disk from disk utility in recovery mode but I think I'm doing something wrong. It won't let me create a disk with over 30MB of data and every time I try to create it it says "Unable to create "Macintosh HD.dmg." (error- 61)" Can anyone help me out, please! Looking at Getting a MacBook Air M1 Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:09 PM PST Trying to decide if I should get a MacBook Air M1. I currently have a 2018 MacBook Pro and am torn on whether or not I should switch to the Air. Currently, I use my Pro for school and Lightroom/Photoshop with some Premiere here and there. Wondering if the Air M1 with 8GB of RAM will be enough or should I opt for the 16 GB? Main thing is I want to get rid of the butterfly keyboard and Touch Bar. Also not sure if I should just go for the base Air M1 or opt for the 8 core with 16GB of RAM? Thanks! Here are my current specs: 2018 13.3" Macbook Pro with Touch Bar — 2.3 GHz i5, 16 GB RAM, and 512 GB SSD. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Nov 2020 08:12 PM PST My iCloud is not downloading my iCloud data from my old computer to my m1 MBA and the new data on my m1 MBA isn't downloading onto iCloud. My folders just say "waiting to upload" and has remained like that for about a week since I air dropped some of my old folders to this new computer. Is anyone else having the same issue? I don't know what to do. [link] [comments]
Can I use migration assistant to manually move files? Posted: 29 Nov 2020 07:53 PM PST Planning on getting a new macbook air soon. I heard it's bad to use migration assistant to transfer over all files because it ends up transferring a lot of junk. If that's the case, can I just use migration assistant to select specific stuff I want to transfer over? [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Nov 2020 07:30 PM PST I bought a Macbook Pro second hand and there is still a standard user from the previous owner. I can log in to the said account without using a password, but even as an admin I can't delete the user. When I click the minus sign it asks for the user's password but it doesn't have one and just hitting enter doesn't work either. Does anyone have any tips on how to remove this user? Posted: 29 Nov 2020 03:33 PM PST Hi, I ordered a M1 MacBook Air with base configuration on Friday. It still says "order is processing", so it's kind of worrying. When I ordered my Apple Watch on September, it got processed within 24 hours. Anyone have any ideas? [link] [comments]
Will iPads and Macs merge oneday? Posted: 29 Nov 2020 07:01 PM PST I mean there is a camera and touchscreen difference but M1 Air and iPad Pro nearly has the same form factor, isn't A14X and M1 very much look a like? I see the limitations for now but in 5 years? [link] [comments]
