[Gurman] Apple has placed key manufacturing partner Pegatron on probation and said they will not receive any new business until completing corrective action after Apple discovered violations related to a student worker program.

FYI, Apple sent a-Shell a similar notice of termination a few days ago. Our appeal is still pending. The commands we would have to remove to stay in the AppStore are curl, pip and wasm.

PSA: Newer manufactured iPad Pros come with 20 watt charger

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 01:33 PM PST

Even though Apples website says it still only includes a 18 watt wall adapter for the iPad Pros I just received mine yesterday and it included a 20 watt adapter. My guess is they don't want to update the website as all of the older ones manufactured before last month or so included an 18 watt.

HomePod mini delivery times begin slipping to early December after pre-orders

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 09:40 AM PST

We have Apple Music & Apple TV, so why hasn’t Apple tackled a library? We have Apple Books but it’s entirely purchasing store only. Why not a subscription based book store?

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 12:50 PM PST

With Apple One, I've rolled my music subscription plan over and am now taking advantage of Apple Arcade and Apple TV. I'd be willing to go the step higher if Apple created a Library and allowed us to take out ePub copies of books. Same as with streaming music, but slightly different.
I get my books using my local library card, but I've been wondering why Apple hasn't invested into creating their own book library. Surely there's money to be made.

Is there a reason why Apple hasn't taken that step yet? Especially with the launch of Apple News where you can get copies of magazines. Why not books?

simple strength - I made a minimalist weight lifting logger and just released it today. Wanted to share it with anyone who might find it useful, free app in link below!

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 03:54 PM PST

simple strength | App Store | Quick Look
For me fitness apps get kind of tiresome/distracting when logging in my lifts. I thought it'd be cool to figure out a different way to make it easier and more intuitive, so I designed an app organized by the lifts you like to do. Check it out, try it for a few sessions and see if it works for you.

    - pin workouts to your board for easy access during your workout

    - save your lift configurations and load them as well

    - graphs for visual progress

    - iCloud enabled - backups and cross device updating

Check out the app and let me know how it goes! 🥳

[Workaround] YouTube PiP on iOS 14 WITHOUT paying Premium

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 01:18 PM PST

iOS 14 users unite! Here comes the ultimate (in my opinion) workaround in order to get YouTube PiP for FREE. Just follow these instructions:

    • Download the "Stadium Full Screen Browser" app by Zachary Knox. It's size is smaller that a single megabyte. Note that I am not the developer of this app nor am I advertising it.

    • Open the app and set "https://m.youtube.com/" as the Primary URL.

    • As User Agent String set the following "Mozilla/5.0 (Android 4.4; Mobile; rv:41.0) Gecko/41.0 Firefox/41.0".

    • Enable the "Require Full Screen Video" setting.

Now you've got YouTube PiP on your beloved iOS Device. Open any video on full screen, then return to your home screen. Voila! Goodbye Google and your Premium Subscription!

Which iOS/iPadOS app needs a desperate overhaul in a later update?

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 01:00 PM PST

Just curious to hear what y'all have to say.

Personally, Safari needs the biggest overhaul and Apple should prioritize it since the layout is fairly bare bones for a browser. Chrome, Edge, and Firefox all provide many personalization options and quality of life features that Safari on mobile just lacks. We can't even change the icon pictures on our favorited sites, not to mention they all lay on a blank black or white background. Apple is rumored to be working on their own search engine, so hopefully a Safari overhaul is approaching.

But enough about what I think, what apps do you think need a tune up the most?

To celebrate Starman's 3rd anniversary, we have packed a bunch of stickers into a new update, and now it's on SALE for a limited time! It's been three years since we came here to test the beta, and it's been an awesome ride! Thank you all!

    Hi folks,

Three years ago, we came here to tell you about our first iOS game, Starman. A little piece of art that my brother and I had been developing for two years. We published a TestFlight build and a brief trailer, and gathered lots of incredible comments and feedback. We'll be always incredibly grateful for that... it was amazing!

For those who don't know, Starman is a beautiful black and white atmospheric puzzler. This was the trailer: Youtube Trailer - Starman for iOS

To celebrate this anniversary, we just uploaded a build with new iMessage stickers, a bunch of bug fixes, and also dropped the price for a limited time (50% OFF).

Download Link | Starman on the App Store ($1.99) (-50% OFF)

    Enjoy :)

Dune is now available for pre-order!

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 03:22 AM PST

    Hello 👋

I'm an iOS developer based in Sydney Australia. I have recently awarded myself the title after spending the last several months developing my first app built in Swift.

To get straight to the product skip to the last paragraph otherwise, read on to hear my story. Note: This has nothing to do with a SciFi Film

I spent the last five years putting my heart and soul into a recruitment start-up that went into liquidation during the initial impact of Covid-19.

As the first employee, I started out as product designer, and was looking forward to the day of stepping foot into the developer team. Though somehow overtime I manage to be box myself in as a marketing manager. I made many serious efforts over the last few years to be transferred to a developer role but was consistently knocked back by seniors as they believed my skills were needed too much for marketing or possibly thought I didn't have what it takes.

Even though I was unhappy in my position for the last three years I stayed on, out of both loyalty and the hope that one day they would give me a chance.

During the first impact of Covid, a lot of Australian companies shut down or scaled back operations. In less than a month, we lost all our clients with no sight when they would return. Seniors made the quick decision to liquate the company, and just like that, after years of hustle, long nights and endless debates it came to a grinding stop.

I don't think my situation is unique, I'm not looking for any sympathy, quite the opposite. I used the last several months to grow and learn a new set of skills that should open up many opportunities in the future. Even though I'm not employed I'm finally doing what I have wanted for many years and couldn't be happier.

So here you go Covid 🖕

If anyone is interested in podcasts or podcasting. I made a micro-podcasting platform. There are already a few big names on the app including TEDx, Blinkist, Headspace, CNET. Early adopters will receive a few perks. Dune - Daily Updates

The Apple Watch allowed me to capture a precious memory from my mother who was declared brain dead due to Intracranial Hematoma

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 03:40 PM PST

*copied my post text from my other post in r/AppleWatch. Original post

    Hello everyone,

So my mom has been battling leukemia for two years. After relapsing earlier this year she had lost much of her hope until my father passed away two weeks ago. She saw how we mourned and suffered for his loss and she decided to keep fighting so that she can live to see our milestones.

Well, yesterday my mom was doing small things around the house because she tries to keep active. She began having a small headache which got worse and worse every few minutes. What happened after was traumatic for me so I won't go into detail but she went limp and got taken away in an ambulance.

When she arrived they found a blood clot in her brain and told us they needed to either medicate her or perform surgery to open up her skull for the brain swelling. Due to the leukemia the doctors thought it would be best to transfer her to another hospital that specializes in cancer and can perform the surgery.

When the new hospital received her they ran a scan on her brain and found no brain activity anymore. She still breathes and has a pulse, but the mind is gone.

When I visited her I paired the Apple Watch to her phone and placed it on her wrist, tears streaming down my face. I then went to messages and sent myself a heartbeat message. So I can always have her heartbeat with me.

I love you forever mom. Thank you Apple for letting me capture such a precious moment.

EDIT: Thank you all so much for your love and support. I'm crying right now because my mom was my world to me. We had been looking for a house to buy because my mom's dream was to have a house we could all live in and be happy after my dad sold our original house and kicked us out. The day before the life-changing "headache" occurred, we had taken her to a house that looked similar albeit smaller than our original. She was so happy that she sat on the couches in the house viewing and said she liked it. We made an offer with me, my sister, and my Mom as signers. With the my mom's condition no expecting to get better, we have had to pull her from the signing and we are praying they accept the offer we put in for the house, as it was the last one she liked before her accident.

My remaining family (sister and I) do not want to live in our current apartment anymore as we have experienced so much tragedy here. Several of our dogs died in the five years we've been here. This year our youngest pup was eaten by coyotes, my father passed away just a few weeks ago, and now my mother will most likely according to the neurologists.

Thank you all so much for your support and any advice for getting through this emotionally, spiritually, or legally is appreciated.

I posted some pictures in the comments

EDIT 2: For those of you with parents who are still kicking. Please tell them often how much you love them! They may know it, but it never hurts to hear it. One moment they are there and the next moment they could be gone. My mother fought leukemia for two years and in one hour yesterday she was gone.

Like a commenter here said, being able to see a loved one off in their final moments is truly a privilege and a gift. One that many do not get the opportunity to do. In my case I wasn't able to tell my mom how much I loved her. When she was suffering with her headache she told me she loved me and my sister, but because I didn't want to scare her I said "I know, but you're going to be fine." She was not fine and I feel guilt that I did not hug her and tell her everything that I did when she was already brain dead.

EDIT 3: Thank you for the awards everyone, I've never gotten gold let alone platinum my entire time on Reddit. I wish it was under better circumstances but it means a lot to me thank you.

I tried sleeping last night and kept waking up in cold sweats. I haven't had this since I was high school. My mom would put a t shirt on my pillow so I wouldn't get it wet and I tried that tonight.

I also have her dog sleeping with me in my room. She used to sleep with my mom but I just couldn't leave her alone and so I put her bed in my room. She's very old but I hope she lives for many years since my mom loved her very much.

I wish with all my heart I could show my mom your love and support. To show her people can be compassionate for others they don't even know. I never thought this would blow up like this because I had planned to post this as a way of venting what was happening to my sister and I. It's comforting having all your thoughts and prayers with us. I will show my sister this when I get the chance. For now I will try to get some more sleep.

UPDATE: Neurologist just called. My mother's condition has gotten bad to the point where they are telling us to bring family. They will make an exception for visitors (due to Covid) and allow us to all see her. He blood pressure has just dropped too much. I had to have someone drive me home because I was just shaking so much. I'm goin got the hospital within the hour to say my final goodbyes. I might make a gofundme possibly because we have no funds for a funeral. I may have to get a loan but with my school tuition and my inability to work I'm not sure how I'll be able to get by with my sister. I may make a whole new post after as this one is getting lengthy.

Thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart. My mom fought leukemia for two years. She had her ups and downs. In the end, she wanted to live for me and my sister. Despite having a hard life my mom was just dealt a bad hand. I hope if she can read this she knows that we will always love her. And that even strangers who didn't know her offered their love and support.

    Thank you again everyone
