Questions for anyone in the military who uses their MacBook to get onto DOD websites. Posted: 30 Sep 2020 03:53 PM PDT How in the heck did you do it? For reference my wife is in the reserves and about to deploy for a few months overseas. I thought it would be a good idea to get her a MacBook as an upgrade to her windows pc. I've been all over militarycac.com and have downloaded the certificates and everything to the keychain with no success. I figured it wouldn't exactly be easy but I didn't think I'd have such a hard time figuring this out. Any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments]

Simple question, saturated results Posted: 30 Sep 2020 09:12 PM PDT If I restore my Mac from System Restore from like two days ago, will all my newer backups these past few days be safe? I just want to make sure some files can be easily restored after I fix it. I'm on Catalina. Current version. Basically I accidentally removed some system files pretending some apps to work properly or at all. It's like the computer is blocking them because of something I accidentally removed. So after much frustration I'm going to just restore from only two days ago. As nothing I do seems to work. I just want to make sure my most recent backups won't be removed or erased from my time machine backups. [link] [comments]
2020 MacBook Air, mid 2009 MacBook, and a Thunderbolt Display. Posted: 30 Sep 2020 08:55 PM PDT This may seem like a silly question, I'm right around iOS and have used macOS for web browsing but when it comes to hardware or computers in general, I'm only good for general functions. As stated above, I have a 2009 MacBook and I'm getting a 2020 MacBook Air. I was curious to see if it's possible to hook up the MacBook Air to the Thunderbolt Display and daisy chain it to the MacBook? Not for any particular reason, I still like to use my older MacBook. I just wanted want to see if there's anyway to incorporate it into my new setup. I'm not really sure I understand the difference between mini display port and thunderbolt? One carries data and the other carries display only? [link] [comments]
Buying MacBook Pro + accessories as a gift: which accessories? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 08:49 PM PDT Hello all, I'm buying a 16 inch MacBook Pro next week as a gift. The person receiving the gift has an older MacBook Air (2013) with the dongle for VGA and HDMI outputs, and they use USB flash drives. From my understanding there is no USB outputs on the new MacBooks. Is this correct? Is the dongle output the same? If I'd like to gift the full package, what else do I need to buy so that the person can still use USB and connect to VGA and HDMI? Are there other "necessary" accessories? [link] [comments]

Solution for two HDMI monitors and charging via one usb-c port on a MacBook 2017? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 08:15 PM PDT Solution for two HDMI monitors and charging via one usb-c port on a MacBook 2017? The only ones I could find on Amazon support the two monitors having the same image instead of 3 individual monitors. Does such a thing exist? [link] [comments]
New MacBook Air user - what is that multi-coloured spiral? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 08:01 PM PDT For the last five years I used and adored my Surface Pro 3 until early this year it developed the dreaded flickergate. I tried to work with it but after much back and forth between Surface Laptop 3 and Macbook Air, this weekend got the new Air I-5. I am working on Word today. Only other thing that's open is my Firefox. Suddenly, a multi-coloured spiral shows up and there's a clear timelag between when I type or click and the action. What gives? Is this something all Mac Users deal with? Also what's with the ancient 2004 menu on top superimposed by Apple instead of the Word menu? I am not a happy camper today and thought maybe I should connect with some long term users to put these disappointments in perspective for me. [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Sep 2020 03:43 PM PDT I'm a music producer and single thread speed is very important for the work I do, I don't want to delve into the specifics but single thread speed is more important for me than multi thread speed. I'm not the biggest techie, but does this decrease from 2.6GHz to 2.4GHz talking about single thread speed? I want the highest single thread speed for a 16" MBP but I can't get a straight answer on this. Thank you [link] [comments]
Questions about Macbook Pro 16 Posted: 30 Sep 2020 11:42 AM PDT I can't wait anymore for apple silicon or the possible 10th gen refresh , I need a laptop for studying specially after the pandemic with remote learning I'm going to buy the mbp 16 base model for 2150$ Here are my concerns, could you answer for me please
Some people here say they hardly get around 6 hours while normal use like browsing and typing while others say they get 10+ hours and can reach more with battery saving techniques ? Why is it inconsistent and how long should I expect for my usage (50% browsing 40% microsoft office word + powerpoint 10% youtube)
If I buy through amazon and ship it internationally (to Egypt) where we don't have officail apple stores but some authorised shops who service and sell apple products) will the 1 year warranty be valid here and If I have problems can they be solved here or I'll have to send it back to US for repair ? Can I contact apple directly for issues or it must be Amazon if something goes wrong with the device in the warranty period?
I can't afford every software so I buy cheap ones like 5$ and below but I use pirated copies of expensive ones like Microsoft and Adobe software , I really want to buy what I use but I'm a medical student and I don't have enough money or time to have a side job so I use pirated software on windows, is it possible to use pirated software on mac?
I see alot of posts complaining about hardware issues with macs after using them for few months like the right usb'cs stop delivering power or screen flickering Has anybody experienced such things and how common are they ?
I don't need the performance of mbp 16 but I prefer the large screen and fine speakers and I though about getting mbp 13 with external monitor but I find 16 way more practical since I stay in different places through-out the week So is there a way to undervolt or consume less power to prevent overheating and increase longevity since I intend to keep the device for 5-10 years *I have watched many many youtube videos about MacOs, I'm really into it and I don't consider a windows laptop an option anymore. How to get rid of “Other” in storage Posted: 30 Sep 2020 03:08 PM PDT Hello all, so I have 84gb available on my MacBook Air 2018, and I currently have 8mb left. I'm told a huge 48gb of this is other storage. Is there any way I can sort through this or delete this without paying for soemthing like clean my mac? [link] [comments]
Update Catalina and ethernet connection Posted: 30 Sep 2020 02:17 PM PDT Hey all. Since I have to work from home, I decided it was the right time to buy the Apple thunderbolt to ethernet adapter. Unfortunately I can't seem to connect my ethernet cable to my MacBook Air (2015). It keeps saying no connection. After looking around, I found out that others have faced the same issue since updating to catalina. I recently updated, so i am quite curious if that could be the cause. Anyone facing or faced this problem? Or tips on how to fix it? [link] [comments]
Has anybody not received their MacBook within the specified delivery window? As in, it arrived late? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 09:14 AM PDT Sorry to ask an annoying question but I'm wondering if this has happened to anybody who ordered a MacBook within the past few months? I ordered a base MBP about a month ago and am entering the last two days of the delivery window they gave me, but my MacBook still hasn't shipped yet. I know there are lots of delays and that they are working hard to get everything sent out, I'm just getting nervous because I'm a grad student and my old Lenovo laptop keeps randomly shutting down in the middle of my classes. Posted: 30 Sep 2020 12:18 PM PDT My macbook air has been working great. Last night I backed up all my data and did a wipe today. Reinstalled big sur beta 9 (was pretty good for me). After I got logged in I saw it say battery was 51% and charger was green not amber like usual when it is charging. I shut down and did the reset SMC steps...but no better. Battery is even lower and still green/not charging [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Sep 2020 10:38 AM PDT Hi, so I have a Macbook Pro 2020. The control strip stopped being responsive. I am able to edit it through the setting, but it is not responsive to any touch gesture. I have tried using the terminal to refresh it. I have had an Apple diagnostic test ran on it. Still no luck. What can this be a result of? Any suggestions? [link] [comments]

Has the 16" macbook pro "ghosting" issue been resolved in newer models? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 10:10 AM PDT I bought a "refreshed" 2019 mbp 16" from Amazon last week and the screen has been driving me a little nuts. I found various internet threads about ghosting and slow response times on the panel used for the 16" compared to some older MBP models and other laptops on the market. I previously had 2013 and 2014 15.4" mbps, and as I read content and scroll in the browser I really feel an inferior response time that bothers by eyes and makes it impossible to read text as it is scrolling, compared to how I remember my older MBPs feeling. I know this doesn't bother everyone but it does bother me, I'm wondering if I might have better luck with another newer unit or if it was definitely ever found out if multiple vendors were used for the panels and if so if some are better than others? Thanks for any info. -Kevin [link] [comments] |
