Best browser to use on Mac that isn’t safari or chrome? Posted: 22 Sep 2020 07:30 PM PDT Safari doesn't support the programs I need for my classes, but I found chrome just kills my battery. Any other good alternatives? [link] [comments]
USB-C hub not working with Macbook 2017 after Catalina 10.15.6 update Posted: 23 Sep 2020 02:04 AM PDT Had my Macbook Pro 2017 (non-touch bar version) since the start of 2019. Always used a USB-C hub with it in order to connect it to an external keyboard and mouse, as well as a monitor. I also have a micro SD card in the hub to help out with this laptop's shockingly-low hard drive size. Occasionally had issues with the monitor going black for a split second while using this setup, but by-and-large it has worked nicely. Updated to Catalina 10.15.6 this morning and now the USB-C hub doesn't work. The port itself still works. Any advice on what has gone wrong or what I need to do to get this working as it used to? Edit: This is the USB-C hub. Realise it might be important. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07H4VQ4BZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 [link] [comments]

Printer preset settings for shipping label Posted: 23 Sep 2020 12:24 AM PDT Hi there, I ship a lot of stuff and I receive shipping label pdfs from the online retailer on a letter size sheet. The label itself is on the top half of the sheet. The bottom half is blank. I need to print that label on a 4x6 sheet and ignore the blank space. Today, I take a snapshot of the label and paste it in a new image file and then print onto a 4x6 size shipping label. What I'd ideally like is create a printer preset which would split the letter size page such that it prints the label portion directly on the 4x6 sized paper and ignore the empty space. Any tips? Tutorial on macs for linux user? Posted: 22 Sep 2020 03:10 PM PDT Hey everyone. I was due a new computer and my company decided to send me a macbook pro. Thing is, this is the first time I've owned a mac. I've been a long time Linux user (and am also pretty familiar with Windows, of course) so some of it makes sense, but there are also some differences I'm seeing like
As novel as it has been in the last couple hours to discover stuff on my own, I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a tutorial for MacOS for noobs who are not completely clueless about computers. [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Sep 2020 10:31 PM PDT I disabled SIP to use a patch and the patch works great (to install Sidecar on an older Mac). After re-enabling SIP, nothing on my Mac worked - finder, safari, all applications wouldn't launch. My MacBook Pro 2015 now only works with the SIP disabled. Does anyone know how to have SIP enabled and not have this issue? I've used the 'csrutil enable' formula in utilities after starting up the compeer on recovery mode. It was my first time using a patch and know very little. (please anyone, mansplain this issue resolution for me) [link] [comments]
How to map from a virtual to physical disk for a failing disk in a RAID 1 array? (10.15.6) Posted: 22 Sep 2020 06:39 PM PDT I have a 2x10TB RAID 1 array in an external TB enclosure. All kinds of problems since I rebooted the other day. I had an encrypted partition mounted on it when I did a "reboot" as root and when the machine came back up, the array was broken (one disk online, and it was rebuilding the other one). After 12+ hours of building, I was actually watching when it finished and it went from Then, I noticed this: So, it appears that one of the disks is bad, but I can't tell which one. How do I map from /dev/disk4 to one of /disk2 or /disk3? Then, I can find the serial number of the drive and reformat it and test it. Adding it back, if it tests OK. [link] [comments]
Will limiting battery charge with a script (charge limiter) preserve battery life for a new battery? Posted: 22 Sep 2020 10:15 PM PDT 2012 macbook air, tired of it but will be at least 6 months before I upgrade, I leave plugged in all the time when I use, coconut battery says I have 74% design capacity 801 cycles but it dies within 30 mins of taking off ac, it's useless. I got a new battery, will using the script to not allow it to go above 70% do anything? I know newer macbooks have better battery life functions and can do this natively but the script is the only way I can do it, al dente not supported on this macbook, I think plugged in all the time on this old one messed it up, but that's just how I use it. I’m having trouble installing Windows on my Mac Pro 2010. Help! Posted: 22 Sep 2020 06:02 PM PDT I have Mojave running on it, got a Mac+windows compatible graphics card (gigabyte RX 570 4Gb) Now I tried running bootcamp assist but it's telling me Bootcamp assistant cannot be used because my Mac doesn't support it. Anyways, I had an old usb where I had successfully installed a windows installer through bootcamp when I was on High Sierra. At this point I understand I have to restart the computer and hold Alt(option) until I get to startup manager. The problem is I do this and my screen goes black and doesn't do or display anything. In order to go back to Mojave I have to force shut the Mac and boot it again. I ve tried everything I've thought about. Can anyone help me install it? I'm very good with computers but this is just frustrating me. [link] [comments]

What’s going on with quick replies in Messages notifications Posted: 22 Sep 2020 08:29 PM PDT Before Big Sur it was super easy to quickly reply to Messages directly in Notification Center. It was fast and required on thought. Now you have to click "more info" and then "see more" before you can type your reply. It's so clumsy and feels like a massive step backwards. In fact, Notifications in general are pretty weak imo. [link] [comments]
IINA - Great VLC alternative, but where can you change playback speed other than down 0.5x or up 2x? Posted: 22 Sep 2020 09:25 AM PDT Title says it all. Anyone know the answer to this? Will have to abandon IINA for VLC otherwise :/ [link] [comments]
Tool bar showing in safari fullscreen Posted: 22 Sep 2020 06:11 PM PDT Just updated to big sur beta 8 and on safari it always shows the top tool bar in full screen. Is there a way to get rid of this ? Enabling "always show tool bar in fullscreen" does nothing. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Recommended music player w/ possible SC/YT/BC integration Posted: 22 Sep 2020 10:56 AM PDT I am looking for a music player that meets my needs after having been using Swinsian for a while now. Looking for something that will play FLAC files as well as the usual MP3/WAV. Ideally be able to manage tags as I currently use Yate for that. I do use Rekordbox for DJ sets and preparing a USB to export but it's not great on CPU and could not use it as a daily player. I seen an app a while back called AutoBeatPlayer which has Soundcloud and Youtube integration which seemed pretty cool, but it's sadly not available to download now. Having those features (and possibly Bandcamp) would be immense - I'm just unsure if there's a solution out there that has the functionality to pull all of my liked tracks on these platforms. Ideally be in a nice UI as well, has to be nice to look at I guess. Any help you can provide is most welcomed :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Sep 2020 02:37 PM PDT Trying to change the default calling app away from FaceTime, but it keeps reverting back. Similar issue found here, but with no solution https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7622624 [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Sep 2020 10:31 AM PDT Hi, after I updated to the above mentioned software, my macbook keeps restarting or panicing after doing anything. I wanted to create a backup over Time Machine and while the backup was being prepared my macbook just restarted. Is there a way to get rid of this restarting loop because I really can't do anything anymore? [link] [comments]
Cursor keeps disappearing from Sidecar after short periods of time, making it unusable. Posted: 22 Sep 2020 01:45 PM PDT I have been using my iPad as an additional monitor for a couple weeks now and it's been great. However, recently, after about 5minutes my cursor stops showing up on the iPad screen when I try to move it over. It only re-appears when I try to bring it back to my laptop screen, rendering the sidecar useless. I was wondering if anyone has found a solution to this problem? [link] [comments]

External Microphone Volume Keeps Auto-Adjusting Posted: 22 Sep 2020 12:28 PM PDT I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) running macOS Catalina 10.15.6 I use a Turtle Beach Gaming headset that has a pretty good mic. The problem is that it gets really sensitive and people listen to an echo on everything I play on my Mac. I tried going into Audio MIDI Setup and lowered the Value to 0.25 and -15.0 dB where it sounds perfect. It automatically slides back up almost immediately and I don't know how to stop that. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
