[PSA] You can now return improper sized Solo Loops & Braided Loops independently from your Series 6/SE orders

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 05:33 PM PDT

Earlier today in a tweet, Prosser stated Series 6 and SE owners can now return the solo loops and braided solo loops independently from the watch, so you no longer need to return the entire bundle.

Here's the fun part- If it's your first Apple Watch order, because these bands are in short stock, they're giving out temporary sport bands until your solo loop can be replaced. They're offering these sport bands in "Surf Blue" and "Cactus" colors, which are both discontinued!

All you have to do to initiate a return is call Apple, Prosser says. They'll send you a temporary replacement sport band, collect your solo loop, and once supplies come back in stock, send you the correct size solo loop.

I created an Apple Watch Series 3/4/5/6/SE comparison table to share!

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 05:51 AM PDT

Hi, TL;DR: I'm sharing a fairly large comparison sheet of the different Apple Watches from Series 3/4/5/6/SE with particularly interesting specs around the size of each of the batteries and screen sizes and how those have changed from one series to the next. Hope you find it helpful! Link: https://docdro.id/HDTGrjx

Backstory: I learned yesterday that iFixit just did a tear down of the AW S6 and we learned that there are new battery sizes. This took me down a rabbit hole wondering what all the previous battery sizes were, how those compared to the screen sizes, and how those compared across different series Apple Watch. Next thing I know, I've created a simple comparison sheet, focusing particularly on the battery and screen (I have this one saved if anyone is interested in the simpler version). Then I started adding more info little by little till I ended up with this sheet. All the info from the first sheet is on here (and there's some fascinating data about battery sizes compared with screen sizes that's worth looking at). But I thought it might be either helpful for some folks wanting some comparison data in one place or other might find it interesting & want to take a look. So, I'm sharing it here. If you find mistakes, you can let me know and I'll try to fix it. I was going to share a copy that others could also add to (as a community resource) it but I'm not sure of the best way of doing that, so decided to start with this PDF. I hope you find it interesting or helpful!

    Hikers/Exercisers: avoid OS7 for now.

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 04:11 AM PDT

I use my watch for daily walks and hikes, as I live ten minutes from a huge mountain covered in trails. I use the hiking function in the Apple workout app. I have the 4th Gen watch.

On OS6, I never even paid attention to the battery. I'm accustomed to hiking 10 hours with the watch happily counting my miles and altitude gains and heart rate.

Yesterday I got the 10% battery warning after about six miles and 2,400ft of altitude gain, maybe three hours. The watch stopped functioning about 1 min later. It was a sunny day and the temp was around 65F. I had worn the watch a few hours before that, but it always "just worked" before. It has literally never went dead in one day, even on 15 mile all day hikes.

Literally only had the watch long enough to pair it with my phone. - Series 6

Can you prevent Siri stealing AirPods from the phone?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 06:27 AM PDT

I've just received the Series 6 as an upgrade from a Series 2 and I'm very happy with it!

Whenever I talk to Siri on the watch, whatever media is playing on my phone through (gen 1) AirPods will stop for as long as Siri is active - even if it's just showing the response. This is quite frustrating, especially since the phone audio often does not resume after I'm finished with Siri on the watch.

It appears the only way to unpair AirPods from the watch is to unpair them from all devices on that iCloud account. This is not a great solution for obvious reasons!

Is there a way to prevent the watch's Siri from routing through AirPods and "stealing" them from the phone? I've searched through the settings and come up empty.

Unable to check for update issue? It made me unpair my watch and now it needs to be set up again but it won’t let me do the update. Now I have a really expensive paper weight ... any solution?

URGENT: Apple Watch showed phone call was still on-going hours after I hung up with on cell phone. Confidential information was discussed during this time.

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 02:42 PM PDT

I'm freaking out. It said the conference phone call was still going on 2 hours after the call ended. I discussed confidential information during this time regarding clients, time sensitive material, plus generally embarrassing convos with my partner.

Is this a glitch? This was a conference call but I know that I hit hung up on my phone and the call ended. Did this just get saved to someone's voicemail? My cell phone only shows the phone call having lasted 6 minutes.

    I appreciate any help.

Edit: called wireless provider to confirm that there was no 2 hour call logged on my service. So looking now that it was truly just a glitch, but a glitch that has taken years off my life 😅

Graphite Stainless Steel Impressions after one day

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 06:28 AM PDT

I got the 40mm Graphite yesterday, with a size 8 green solo loop.

Because the reflective surface of the watch is so hard to photograph -- it depends so much on the light that's on it -- I worried a good deal that i wouldn't like it.

I'm coming from a stainless steel AW4, and the truth is I wanted something a little flashy. I lead meetings where showing a little "status" through something like a watch is not a bad idea, weird thought that concept still is to me.

The Graphite is like the stainless steel, but a lot darker. BUT not Space Black dark.

It looks great. It's NOT as flashy as straight-up stainless steel, but it looks great. It's more understated, which I'm liking.

So if you're wondering what it looks like, think 'halfway between Space Black and Stainless.' More understated, but looks great.

The Solo Loop has made me realize how much my wrist changes size during the day. Over at Daring Fireball, John Gruber posted a great sizing chart that compares the hole you use in a sport band to Solo Loop size (https://daringfireball.net/2020/09/more_adventures_in_solo_loop_sizing). According to him, I should have gone one size smaller, and there are times where it really does feel loose and I feel like, Damn, I got the wrong size. Then other times my wrist seems larger, and it seems to fit just right. I'm actually pretty baffled by the whole thing right now. I wish I had the smaller size for comparison.

Also, the green solo loop is a DARK green. Almost brown. It looks great, but the color doesn't "pop."

I hope this helps anyone else who's been baffled by the pictures of the Graphite watch.

People complain about the speed of their watches. At least you don’t see this when you go into the app.
