Opinion: Technology is not an investment for most people!! Posted: 07 Sep 2020 09:26 PM PDT I see this a lot on different tech threads. It seems like people justify an expensive purchase or specs beyond what they need for the next 5 years as an investment. For the majority of people, it isn't. The base model can get you through it and lead you to the same place in the future as the spec'd out 16". (Speaking to college students). Even though MacBooks retain their value better than other laptops, it is a depreciating asset nonetheless. This doesn't necessarily apply to ALL people, however I do see many students justifying this as an investment. [link] [comments]

[Macbook pro late 2013, mojave] My mac has been making weird noises lately Posted: 08 Sep 2020 01:24 AM PDT Whenever I open my laptop there will be these clicking noises. And when I use my mac, there will randomly be the same noises. What's happening and what do i do? [link] [comments]
Hello everyone, Should buy MacBook right now? Posted: 07 Sep 2020 06:04 AM PDT Hi, I am planning to buy a new notebook, but I cannot choose Macbook or a similar notebook with Windows. I didn't know where to write, so I am writing it here. I use a notebook for Arduino programming, sometimes use Fusion 360, use Fritzing, processing, and Android Studio. Is mac os good? Ah, also I forgot to say I don't have iPhone or Apple watch. Honestly, I have Samsung S10+, Galaxy Watch Active, and Galaxy buds. My previous notebook is on windows from ASUS. Thank you for all [link] [comments]
MacBook Pro randomly shutting down Posted: 07 Sep 2020 09:53 PM PDT Hi. I bought my MacBook Pro a little less than a year ago. Since then, I have been only using google and a few small apps. About a week ago, I decided to buy a monitor and an adapter to connect my Macbook and monitor. Then since yesterday, my MacBooks randomly shut down around 15%. Then I have to plug in the charger to open it again. This happens with the adapter plugged in and not plugged in. So I can't tell if it is because of the adapter and the monitor, or if it is an issue in my MacBook. I get no error message or anything like that once I open the MacBook. Does anyone know the problem or how to fix it? Thanks. [link] [comments]
Should I get a MacBook Pro (16in) now or wait until the new ARM laptops to come out? Posted: 07 Sep 2020 07:16 PM PDT I'm starting university this week and I'm planning on going into a design major, specifically industrial or communications so I'm going to need a fairly powerful laptop. I don't think it's urgently necessary to get a laptop for my first year because it's mainly standard English and studio classes, but it would make my life easier to get my own computer instead of using my family's. Leaning towards waiting for the new models, but I wanted to hear input from other people first. Edit: also I read that the 16in ARM (which is what I would like to get) won't come out for a little while, I think at least next year. That's the other thing, I can't wait until my second/third year to get a high processing MacBook. [link] [comments]
New MBP, tons of issues with stock apps Posted: 07 Sep 2020 05:39 PM PDT I was wondering if anybody else had this issue, I have a brand new MBP the 4 thunderbolt port edition and the native apps such as safari/messages/system preferences are extremely slow and constantly give me the pinwheel or require a force quit. What would be the reasoning behind this? I have never had this issue with my previous MacBooks, is this worth investigating further or will the next OS update help with this? Appreciate any help! Thanks! [link] [comments]

Macbook Pro 2016 13 inch or 2017? Posted: 07 Sep 2020 11:40 AM PDT I have a 2016 12 inch Macbook, but I'm thinking of upgrading to a 2017 Pro 13 inch or a 2016 Pro 13 inch. Using it basically only for school. One of the reasons I want to upgrade is because the 12 inch has no fans so it gets hot quickly and slows down when using any program while using zoom. When coding in xcode, bigger screen would be nice, but it's not a big problem, just thought it would be worth mentioning. Would it be a good idea to upgrade to the 2017 Pro 13 inch for around ~800? Or should I just wait for the new 12 models? Which option would you choose? Option 1: 13 inch Macbook Pro 2016 for $750 Option 2: 13 inch Macbook Pro 2017 for $820 Option 3: 12 inch Macbook (Supposedly Releasing October) There's also a 2018 MacBook Pro 13 inch with 16 gigs for 900 on Facebook. The problem is the risk of buying it from someone on Facebook and not having any guarantee. [link] [comments]
App To Keep MacBook Pro Awake When Lid is Closed Posted: 07 Sep 2020 11:15 AM PDT I remember sometime ago that someone posted an app that would allow the MacBook to stay opened when the lid was closed, thus allowing incoming connections such as Teamviewer, etc. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Which MacBook should I get? Should I wait for the new one? Maybe not a MacBook at all? Posted: 07 Sep 2020 10:46 AM PDT Hi everyone, I'm in need of a new laptop and was wondering which would be the best option for me. I've been rocking the 2015 13-inch MacBook Pro for a while now and used it for my entire undergrad. I'm starting my Masters in October and have around £1200 ($1500) to spend on a new laptop (but I don't need to spend all that money). I do need a new one since my old one is on its last legs now. Just wondering what my best option is. I use it for your typical university student work (a lot of spreadsheets & note taking), nothing like graphic design and such. Leaning most towards the new MacBook Pro. Also considering going for something non-Apple, but since I have an iPhone and Apple Watch I think it makes most sense to stay within the eco-system. Any advice? Would be much appreciated. [link] [comments]
Can’t decide weather I should try to upgrade or just get a new battery for my 2012 MacBook Pro. Posted: 07 Sep 2020 02:44 AM PDT The main problem is my current Mac is working great. Exept the battery dies within a couple hours and it won't fully charge. Does anyone know where I can buy a battery? I thought about trying eBay. But i don't know how good an idea that is. MBP Lags Severely when Plugged in Posted: 07 Sep 2020 08:21 AM PDT Hi r/MacBook When I plug my MacBook Pro 15" 2017 in for charging, first the fan would get loud. Then the curser, video, browser, everything will lag...sooooo bad. The lags would typically last about an 1 hour. I brought it to the Apple Store for the technician to check up. They ran a diagnostic but the hardware was all in green. So really nothing they can do. It is driving me crazy. Any helps welcome, many thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Sep 2020 05:17 AM PDT When my MBP is not connected to anything, I can easily make and receive phone calls from the MBP using the iPhone (via real phone number, not FaceTime audio/video) However, when my MBP is connected via USB-C to my monitor and dock, I still do have a proper speaker set and a proper microphone (it's a Microsoft LifeCam which has a mic), I always get "Call Failed" when trying to make or receive an iPhone call. I know that my mic works because I can do FaceTime calls, zoom, audacity recording audio. The mic is fine. So why am I getting Call Failed when connected to my "desktop" setup? But it's fine when the MBP is by itself? Edit: Ok so while connected to my USB-C monitor, I changed the mic back to my macbook's mic and now the call worked. But when I switch the mic back to the Microsoft LifeCam why doesn't it work? This mic works fine for facetime/zoom/anything else.... Edit 2: More testing. Bluetooth headphones Sony WH1000XM3 also results in Call Failed. Edit 3: AirPods Pro work, but not when connected to the USB-C monitor and still using the AirPods as the mic...?!?! MBP 2020 13" for reference, if that is a factor. Any help would be appreciated, thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Sep 2020 04:02 AM PDT Hi guys I have a MacBook pro 2016 without touchbar. I don't understand why but my Mac is always to hot.. if I do normal web browsing it starts to heat up in the part above the keyboard. If I start watching a video (even on YouTube) it gets very hot with the fans that start very strong. I have tried to use different browser like chrome, Firefox or edge but it is always the same. I have tried to format the Mac but the situation is the same. There is something that I Could do or something that I should check? Thank you [link] [comments]
