Apple Music Syncing but not showing (10.15.5) Posted: 28 Aug 2020 01:40 AM PDT Big confuse loading... To preface this, I have been experiencing this exact issue for over a year now. It started in Mojave and has also persisted through a Mac upgrade. Essentially I have cloud sync on, and my Apple Music Library is Showing, however, I cannot browse, search, or visit the for you page. The actual function of apple music is not there at all. The only thing that works is the 'Show Complete Album' option, otherwise, I can't even start a radio station for that matter. Is there a way to reinstall the app or some refresh that could fix this. My brain hurts. [link] [comments]

Virtualization for x86 Intel apps on ARM? Posted: 27 Aug 2020 11:32 PM PDT Obviously we can't install Mojave for running 32-bit apps on a volume or partition if it's an ARM Mac, and likewise we can't install Mojave on an Intel Mac that shipped later than the OS release, (since it would be missing the drivers) but could we potentially run Mojave or Linux (w/ x86 support) in a VM to run 32-bit and/or intel apps on an ARM Mac? Need to hide app from opening in dock and recents Posted: 27 Aug 2020 11:28 PM PDT So I need to hide only 1 app from opening in my dock and recents. I figured out how to hide the app from opening in the dock by editing the plist file with textedit , but it still opens in the "recents" section. I've done this before but I don't remember how I did it. Any help? [link] [comments]
my mac wifi is not finding any networks without restarting wifi Posted: 27 Aug 2020 01:34 PM PDT Almost every time I wake my mac from sleep it does not automatically connect to my router. In fact, it doesn't even see the network or any other network. I can connect to my phone but if I want to use wifi I have to turn wifi off on my mac and then turn it back on. This usually corrects the problem but it gets tedious having to do this multiple times a day. Any hints or suggestions? Posted: 27 Aug 2020 11:12 PM PDT Hey guys, having a bit of a problem with my E-gpu and my mac freezing all the time. The E-gpu seems to work fine, but I keep getting a black screen when booting up with the E-Gpu connected. Also, whenever I skip ahead when viewing a video in VLC, or quicktime, the screen freezes. No issue on Youtube or other streaming sites. I understand I need to be able to disable automatic graphic switching in system preferences, but the option isn't even there to untick. I've installed the app Gswitch, to try switching to the egpu permanently, but it doesn't seem to recognise that I'm using 2 gpu's??? Any suggestions? Mac Mini 2018 Catalina 10.15.6 Radeon RX 580 8 GB Cheers. [link] [comments]
Question: Catalina vs Big Sur Beta Performance Posted: 27 Aug 2020 05:53 PM PDT For anyone who tried Big Sur, how is Big Sur's performance compared to Catalina? Is it slowing down your mac a lot? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Aug 2020 05:05 PM PDT Hello! I have a Macbook 2019 13", the base model. This is my first Mac and it is also the worst experience I've ever had. The main problem is the temperatures. Talking in Celsius it reaches 90degree very easily, just, for example, sharing screen in a Skype call or browsing apple website with animations on it (every gpu activity brings it mad). I asked to Apple but I've never took it back to an Apple store, first because here where I live there are not so much authorized stores, then you know, coronavirus.. lock down and I went easily in smart working leaving my Mac always off and having a great life at work with my windows desktop pc.. I saw that people have this trouble also with 2020 models and some 16" macbooks (for example I saw that the apple chess game took them to 90 degree..). But I am just wondering what are your thermals and if you tried big Sur, are there any improvements? Like for example starting the fan before they reach the sun temperatures? Please don't take me wrong. The problem itself is not the cpu or gpu temperatures, but the palm rest becames very hot and (Tim) cooks (lol) your hands.. I think this is even not good for battery health.. [link] [comments]
Is it possible to wipe a Macbook clean when it has a firmware password? Posted: 27 Aug 2020 07:39 PM PDT Some 6 weeks ago, I resigned from a job (at a very large company) where I had worked for a year. I had been issued a laptop as part of that job. I went through all the proper steps to try and return the laptop after I resigned, but my former employer never got back to me. I followed up via email several times, and the last time I told them that I would consider the matter concluded after 30 days. So, let's assume that I'll return the laptop if my former employer ever follows up. In the meantime I'd like to put it to good use. It's a 2018 13" Macbook Pro. There's nothing much on the machine, but I'd prefer to have a clean slate before doing anything with it. The complications: it has a firmware password that I don't know, so I can't start it up in recovery mode. And while my original user account was an administrator, I seem to have screwed up by creating a new non-admin account and deleting the old one, so I don't seem to have access to an admin account. I do have an external drive with the Catalina installer on it. Is there anything I can do? [link] [comments]
Cannot restore Time Machine backup on external hard drive Posted: 27 Aug 2020 07:35 PM PDT I am getting this error when I perform a Time Machine restore on my external hard drive. I am having trouble understanding what the error means. When the error says "APFS systems can only be restored to internal SSDs", does it mean that I can only restore the Time Machine backup on the SSD that is soldered into my Macbook? Thus, I will not be able to buy an external SSD and restore my Time Machine backup to the external SSD? [link] [comments]
Internet Recovery MacOS Instillation Problem Posted: 27 Aug 2020 07:24 PM PDT I originally tried to install the MacOS BigSur beta but the update assistant threw an error and then I couldn't load back into Catalina so I figured I would completely reformat and start new. I erased everything on the hard drive using Disk Utility through Recovery but then my mac rebooted and threw another error. When it rebooted this time it loaded into the Online Recovery Tools menu. I choose to reinstall MacOS Catalina through there. Once I accept the terms and agreements the progress bar immediately jumps to 100% and it reboots, once again into the internet recovery tools. I looked at the error logs and have typed out what I see below. DHCP en5: INIT transmit failed - This repeats over and over again, about once every 1.5 seconds. DHCP en5: status = 'no server' - Every fifteen or so of the above error this one will print out. Inet_set_autoaddr(en5, 1) failed, Operation not permitted (1) - Seems to be random I have tried using a different WiFi network, using an Ethernet cord, and even using my phone's hotspot. All do the same thing and only gets me back into the internet recovery tools. Any help would be appreciated. I start classes on Monday and was not expecting this. [link] [comments]

Unusual no-desktop state in the morning Posted: 27 Aug 2020 01:39 PM PDT I'm not sure how to really describe this, but I'll do my best. I'm hoping someone else has experienced this behavior and found a solution. If I leave my MacBook Pro (Retina 15 inch Mid 2015) running Catalina 10.15.6 running 24/7, I discovered that when I come in in the morning, the interface (Finder) won't come up. The screen is usually black. When I leave it, it would have my account logged in and screensaver with password set and running. It is plugged into a USB hub and power. Sometimes it has the mouse pointers showing. When it's there, it moves around with the mouse. The system doesn't react, though; it doesn't prompt for login. I've noticed the keyboard backlight light is usually lit when this happens. I discovered that I can SSH into the Mac when it's like this from my Linux machine and tell it to reboot; the Mac reboots and comes up as if nothing happened. I've checked the logs, but I can't find anything out of the ordinary. No indication of what caused the interface to not work properly. I've rebooted into recovery mode and checked the drive multiple times and nothing wrong is found. Nothing standing out in the logs, only seems to happen overnight (so...*maybe* related to a nighttime housekeeping task run by the operating system?), only kills the display of Finder/graphical shell but lets the system keep running in the background, nothing found wrong with the filesystem, lets me reboot from the SSH login. I'm at a loss what to check next to troubleshoot and haven't had luck finding others who posted this problem online. Is there a way to check for a corrupted preference that would cause this, or something else to check that could be causing this? [link] [comments]
