    Question in regards to an old iMac / GarageBand

    Hey guys, my boyfriend has a question in regards to an issue with his older iMac and getting GarageBand onto it despite the iOS being outdated. He doesn't have a reddit account, so I figured I'd drop this here and see if anyone has any answers. Thank you!

    Mac users

    I have an old iMac that isn't able to upgrade IOS anymore. (Highest update it has is El Capitan)

    It doesn't have garage band on it for some reason and I'd like to have it just to write / midi program while I'm away from my actual studio desk.

    Questions:

    1: new garage band isn't compatible with the El Capitan IOS. Is there a solution to this?

    2: is there some way to get an older version onto the Mac? It's not the end of the world if I can't but I'd like to have multiple places to do music writing and figured I'd make use of this iMac.

    If I can't get that to work, it's a paperweight that won't accept anymore IOS updates because Apple is greedy and wants you to buy new devices. Help.

    Compatible Stylus for Ipad Air 2?

    Hey everyone, I'm going to college next year and wanted to try taking notes on my Ipad Air 2, but nothing I can find on amazon (or the apple pencil) is compatible with the tablet.

    I was wondering if anyone here knew of a stylus I could use (that preferably has palm rejection).

    Up until a few weeks ago, FaceTime was working fine before suddenly shutting off.

    I've recently just updated the phone to iOS 12.4.7, factory reset, signed in and out of Apple ID, and still nothing. Two messages pop up over and over. "An error occurred during activation. Try again later". & "Unable to contact the FaceTime server. Try again".

    I'm tempted to wipe the phone clean and reactivate, but hoping to avoid this if possible.

    However, I am not using a wifi connection, only hotspot. But when using FaceTime to make calls, it was only ever with cellular data, and we never had an issue.

    Please help!

    iMac screen

    How do you fully change the computer name in Mac OS?

    So I just got a MBP 13 2020 running macOS 10.15.6 and I'm having issues getting the device name change to show up everywhere. In Settings>Sharing, I changed the computer name. Originally in terminal it was showing the old name but a restart fixed that.

    In iCloud settings it's still showing the old default device name (my name's MacBook Pro). Is there somewhere else I need to change the device name?

    Can't delete DMG created in Disk Utility (via recovery console) located in root directory

    OK here's a new one for ya.

    I will occasionally boot into the recovery console's Disk Utility and create a disk image of my entire hard drive and put it on a thumb drive. This evening I screwed up and accidentally told Disk Utility to create the image in my root directory (typically called Machintosh HD).

    So I boot into macOS and go to the root directory to delete this file and. I. can't. No option to move to trash. Moving to trash does nothing. CMD+DELETE does nothing. I can mount this DMG but I cannot delete it.

    I'm tearing my hair out. WTF. How do I fix this?

    URGENT! Please help! Pages frozen when trying to save, is there any way to fix this without losing my work?

    I have an early 2014 MacBook Air running OS X El Capitan (10.11 I think). It says this version doesn't support back up and sync.

    This has happened a few weeks ago, where I had forgotten to save for a while after pumping out almost an entire uni assignment and went to save. Upon doing so the spinny wheel came up and pages was coming up with force quit when I tried to look at options in the dock. I ended up having to force quit and only a small amount of my assignment was there from when I had successfully saved the previous time and basically had to redo my whole assignment.

    Now it has happened again where I was focused on my work and wrote 1000 words. I quickly realised and didn't want the same thing as last time to happen. But of course it did. Is there any way I can fix this without losing my work? Even getting it to scroll so I can take pictures of my work to retype it. It's really stressing me out :( Any suggestions are welcome

    Edit: also when I go into finder and preview my work it only has the older saved version

    Educator discount question

    My girlfriend, a middle school teacher, recently ordered a new MacBook Pro using the educational store on Apple's website. After ordering her folks surprised her with a new MacBook Air. Will she face any issues if she keeps the MacBook Air for herself and "sells" me the MacBook Pro she purchased with her educators discount? The discount would be nice but I don't want her to get in any trouble. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

    Issues with a mid 2012 Mac Pro

    Hello, I have had some issues with my Mid 2012 Mac Pro for a while now and need some help. My Mac has been frequently crashing when running certain programs, mostly games and such. What the Mac will do is that it will first start having these horizontal lines go across the screen, sometimes distorting the image. Then, it will start randomly freezing and unfreezing, until a long freeze and a crash. This crash usually has both screens turn a certain color (usually black or white) and one screen will have the horizontal lines and the other will be blank. Another issue I ran into occurred while I was trying to reset the VRAM, NRAM, and SCM. What happened is that instead of going to where it is supposed to go, it rebooted, showed the circle with a line through it, the Apple logo, the circle with a line through it again, and then booted up normally. Does anyone know what is going on here.

    Facebook password changed shortly after downloading qbittorrent (On a mac)

    Hi reddit, sorry if there's any Grammer, punctuation, formatting mistakes but it's been a long night

    So, I was staying at an airbnb with my girlfriend in Hungary, while there I was downloading qbittorrent.

    When I downloaded it I got the error message that it was not for the correct mac version, no problem I'll just download some older versions (all from qbittorrent being hosted on fosshub) when I finally found a compatible version it told me that It needed extra permissions to install, I told my girlfriend as much and she said she would handle it as it was her mac and I'm not all to familiar with them.

    We left it for awhile as we were both busy and she noticed that she was signed out of her facebook on all devices, she went to her Facebook on the mac and seen that it said (password changed 11 minutes ago) She can't log back in as she forgot the password to her email and doesn't have any trusted contacts on Facebook. She's convinced that I'm the person that changed it but I absolutely did not. As I'm not familiar with macs is there anyway I can prove my innocence? Or maybe something that I could have inadvertently done to cause this? Thanks for the help, will be happy to answer questions I'm a little desperate.

I’m probably being too bullshitty atm but I was filming a butterfly knife video and it got too close so sadly now I have a fucking dent on my iPhone 11 :( doesn’t matter though, life isn’t perfect and I should just be happy that I have an iPhone in the first place

    Something kind of haywire with MBP 16", audio interface no longer shows up after nvram reset..

    My MBP 16" has been not quite right over the last few weeks, my mouse was extremely laggy all of a sudden (magic mouse 2) particularly when using adobe software. I'd tried doing an NVRAM reset in hopes that would correct the issue, but that didn't help and instead my audio interface disappeared after the reset and I cannot get it to be found again.

    The thunderbolt interface is a Focusrite Clarett 8pre, when I connect it to the MBP I see a green 'thunderbolt connected' indicator light on my interface so it clearly thinks it's connected, but the mac doesn't see any device. I've deleted the suggested plist files from the manufacturer, no luck. Standard restarts of course, also no luck. I read about doing an SMC reset, tried that, no help with the interface (but now my mouse seems to be behaving normally?)

    A system report check does not show the Clarett audio interface. Nothing else has changed with this system. No updates, no out of the ordinary use. I've been using this setup exactly as is without issue for months.

    ?? Kind of desperate to get this recognized again as part of my work involves audio production.

    What I want is this:

    -Files folder -Apple folder Apple.jpg -Orange folder Orange.jpg -Pear folder Pear.jpg

    Anyway to easily do this? Thanks in advance.
