A Picsew equivalent on macOS available for making long-tweet pics? Posted: 27 Jul 2020 12:05 AM PDT I love to make screenshots for the sake of note taking and stitch them vertically for future review. This is why I am fond of the the app Picsew on iOS and have bought all the in-app purchases to put it to maximal use. But there are times when I watch online courses and capture screens from macOS. I wish I can take note in the same way but I can't find anything like Picsew in the Mac App Store. Anyone have decent recommends, plz? [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Jul 2020 08:52 PM PDT I used a 90 day Logic Pro X trial on my mid-2010 MacBook Pro. The trial was fantastic, and I went to go ahead and purchase it, only to be blocked off by the Operating System requirements. "No problem, I'll do the trial again on my other Mac!" I went ahead to install the trial on my other, identical Mac (same OS, specs, also mid 2010), and I ran in to the OS requirement again! My questions is this: Why was the trial blocked on one Mac and not the other for OS if it was the same, and is there a way to get past this trivial barrier? When I was using the trial these past 3 months, it ran perfectly, and I made some great work. What can I do (that isn't buying a new Mac, thanks) to get my music back on the road? I was exited, I have a MIDI keyboard and all, but I feel as though now I've invested in something I can't even use. And no, I'm not using GarageBand. (one piano... ;-;) [link] [comments]

OWC Aura Pro X2 SSD vs Bootcamp/Windows 10 Posted: 26 Jul 2020 08:05 PM PDT Basically, on OWCs website they state that Bootcamp isn't allowed on specific Mac's with certain SSDs from their website. However, I saw that an OWC Dual Boot Enabler existed (they said for Aura, not specifically Aura Pro or Aura Pro X2), and was wondering if it worked with the OWC Aura Pro X2? That'd be pretty great if it did. If anyone has any insight, that'd be much help! [link] [comments]
2011 17" MBP, Bootable USB going to white screen after Apple Loading Bar. Posted: 26 Jul 2020 07:55 PM PDT Hi Guys, I have a 2011 17" MBP that I just swapped out the hard drive on (to an SSD) and my Bootable USB keeps going to a white screen after Apple Loading Bar loads up all the way, and then it just sits there. I'm not really sure what else I can try next. I reset SMC, PRAM, VRAM, tried to boot to internet recovery (does the same thing, except once it gets to the white screens the fans ramp up full blast and the computer gets hot as well), etc. I know these models have graphics card issues but I'm not seeing any weird graphical glitches, just the booting to the white screen. Any thoughts on this and next steps I can take? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Jul 2020 06:41 PM PDT I'm on the public beta 3 of Mac OS Big Sur and I'm having problems opening jar files. I know I have Java installed because I checked in terminal. Im using Mac OS's jar launcher to try and open the file but I keep getting an error saying no application can open this file. I've tried it with multiple jar files from different websites and it's the same issue every time. I've allowed the files to be open in system preferences too. Is anyone else experiencing this and or know how to fix it? [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Jul 2020 12:24 PM PDT Hi! I've acquired a Mac mini, my first Mac. I've upgraded it with an ssd but now need an iso of Catalina to boot and install from. I know how to do all this, just not sure where to get the download. Any suggestions? Thanks. [link] [comments]

What are folks using for optical audio devices? Posted: 26 Jul 2020 05:22 PM PDT My Mac doesn't have an optical audio out so I've been looking at a few usb audio adapters. Seems like most are super old and don't even support win10 much less macOS. What are folks using to get an optical out via usb? I've also looked at hdmi splitters however I was looking for something standalone. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Unable to do 60hz 4k on 2015 Macbook? Posted: 26 Jul 2020 02:51 PM PDT I got this monitor https://www.microcenter.com/product/484013/asus-vp28uqg-28-4k-uhd-60hz-hdmi-dp-freesync-gaming-led-monitor and initially connected it to my HDMI and I got max 30hz 4k. I then tried and bought an adapter mini display port to display port https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HNF0KF0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and plugged that into my computer then changed the settings to DP v1.2 and when I go into settings in my monitor it's still saying only 30Hz for my monitor. I tried going into display settings into my mac and there's no option to change the refresh rate. I also used the displayport cable that was included with the monitor (Hotron brand) Any advice?? Posted: 26 Jul 2020 01:32 PM PDT Say, I am working with app A. Then I start app B via Spotlight. Then I close app B. At this point I'd want app A be focused, but it is not the case. Is there some macOS configuration to get this behaviour? [link] [comments]
Poor font scaling on external display Posted: 26 Jul 2020 01:27 PM PDT Today my new 24" 1080p monitor came in and I hooked it up to my 16" MBP using the USB-C cable provided in the box. Unfortunately I found that macOS is doing something weird with text that is causing all text (and especially parts of the desktop environment like the menu bar) to become very blurry and otherwise oddly distorted. I've determined this to be a macOS issue since the text is significantly clearer when I boot into my Bootcamp drive and open up the exact same thing in Windows. I've tried using defaults to force font smoothing for all displays (defaults write -g CGFontRenderingFontSmoothingDisabled -bool FALSE) but that didn't really do anything as far as I can tell. I've also tried (defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 1) at all three levels and with that on it seemed to just exacerbate the issue even more by causing text to become oversized and blurry. I have also toggled the built in font smoothing option in General settings but that only seems to apply to some elements of the UI like the settings app and right side of the menu bar. Here is a closeup of the same window open in both macOS (top) and Windows (bottom) that hopefully shows what I'm talking about. https://photos.app.goo.gl/SDprxpUtZtqddz4F7 It is especially apparent that the text is blurrier in macOS if you pay attention to the link text in the center of each photo. If anyone knows of any other solutions please let me know. [link] [comments]
Catalina 10.15.5 Scroll Lag on Safari 13.1.1 after seconds of inactivity Posted: 26 Jul 2020 09:17 AM PDT Hi Guys! Happy Sunday! Catalina 10.15.5 Experiencing scroll lag on Safari 13.1.1 when I use two fingers upwards or downwards after seconds of inactivity. I had noticed the issue while reading on Safari without touching the MBP and then seconds after I intend to scroll upward or downward, there is an annoying lag for like 4-5 seconds and then it responds abruptly. As a "fix" for this annoying lag, I can avoid the issue using three fingers in upward direction (like doing the default MISSION CONTROL gesture but not doing it completely) and then scrolling with the two fingers upward or downward to continue reading. Is there any fix for this? 10.15.6? [link] [comments] |
