- I use this USB video grabber which seems to be perfectly recognized by macOS. But neither in VLC or debute Video capture I can open the stream of the grabber. As you can see VLC only gives me the FaceTime Webcam to open... not the grabber. Any ideas?

Posted: 04 Jul 2020 11:18 AM PDT Hello I have an old music tracker called PlayerPRO that i'd like to run on my mac (Catalina). When i try to open the program it of course says "PowerPC applications are no longer supported". What options do I have to run this? Emulators or something of the like? Would I have to buy or obtain a prior version of mac OS? Thanks Edit: Trying to get this to run on Catalina OSX https://github.com/MaddTheSane/PlayerPRO Edit 2: Stuck at building the files 'PlayerPRO.xcworkspace' or 'PPMacho.xcodeproj'. Not really sure how it works but it has a ton of warnings and the code seems to be incompatible with Catalina OS, though it said it built successfully and i don't see how to run it from here. Trying the virtual machine route and running the PlayerPRO 5.9.8 version there. Edit 3: I have Mojave running via Oracle VM Virtual machine (found an awesome tutorial here: https://techsupport.screenplay.com/hc/en-us/articles/360034975752) [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Jul 2020 09:14 PM PDT Hello all, I was tempted to install the Mac OS Big Sur , but decided to wait to public beta, so they solve most problems ... any ideas of when the public beta comes out? [link] [comments]
Brand New iMac stuck on start up Posted: 04 Jul 2020 06:23 PM PDT Opened my new iMac last night, I tried using the migration assistant to transfer info from my naturally in the middle of the transfer my internet went out for a second. I was able to restart both computers fine and made a second attempt in transferring the data. Everything came up as normal and by this point I decided to go to bed at let the transfer go overnight . I wake up and the process is pretty much the same as it was when I left it. I cancel it out and shut down. Now the mac won't start past the start up screen. Goes to 100% and nothing. I tried to safe boot but the mac doesn't seem to respond to the keyboard. What do I do? [link] [comments]

System Preferences can't be unlock (Big Sur Beta) Posted: 04 Jul 2020 10:56 PM PDT I recently got the beta for macOS Big Sur and everything worked fine for a few weeks but a few hours ago I realised I couldn't unlock anything in my system preferences. I click the lock icon, enter my password in, then it just shakes, indicating that it's the wrong password. I tried resetting my password but it still didn't work. I'm now back with Catalina 10.15.5 until I find a fix for that. Anyone else experiencing this or know a fix? Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Jul 2020 07:45 PM PDT I just purchased a MacBook Air, which has a native resolution of 2560x1600. Additionally, the operating system gives me 4 options for scaling the text between the largest and smallest. I was hoping for smaller text than they offer. When I hover over the option (system preferences, displays, scaled, then the right-most choice), it says "Looks like 1680x1050" below the monitor image. Is there any way to have everything actually present as it should for 2560x1600? I run some applications that benefit from screen real estate and this would be helpful. [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:07 AM PDT I already like Big Sur. It just list the files and does the parsing later such as default thumbnails, etc. Windows has been doing this for a while as well. This was a huge problem with Catalina because I have to wait until finder does some sort of parsing to show my files and that is slow. Question is, is there a way to emulate this behavior with Catalina? Now I have tried all the finder options to prevent any kind of parsing, but that was a no go. I think this is a system preference that hopefully can tweak. [link] [comments]

Cannot upgrade or log into iCloud Posted: 04 Jul 2020 07:04 PM PDT So I'm writing this in hopes of getting some help. I sold my old mid 2012 MacBook Pro to a friend yesterday. Before so I took everything off and had to do a fresh os install with internet recovery. He tells me he cannot log into his iCloud account or update and is getting error 102. Any suggestions? Boot from APFS drive on High Sierra Posted: 04 Jul 2020 06:22 PM PDT I have a 2011 MBP that I updated to Catalina with the DosDude1 patch. However, im getting annoyed with its slowness in Google remote desktop and MacOS Screen Sharing (serious lag Im attributing to non-metal hardware emulation) as they're on the same gigabit lan and my other MBP is lightning fast. Problem is the main drive is formatted as APFS so I wanted to know if I could do an internet recovery and push High Sierra back on it without loosing the drive. Otherwise I need to do a full wipe and I dont think my TimeMachine would let me restore from the Catalina -> high Sierra.. i think i would need to migrate? which would be a pain... 2016 Retina Macbook - Internal drive not visible after trying to upgrade to Catalina Posted: 04 Jul 2020 03:59 PM PDT I have a 2016 Retina macbook that no longer boots up after trying to upgrade to Catalina. When I boot, I get a round circle with a bar through it. Support just says get a new logic board without much troubleshooting. I hooked up an external drive, formatted it to APFS and loaded Mojave on it. I did try formatting to Mac OS (journaled) first, but kept getting an error about a missing firmware partition. I am able to boot into the laptop that way. But once I am in, I still cant see the internal disk in disk utility of using the "diskutil list" command in terminal. I am fine with re-imaging the internal drive if I can get to it, but there are some files on there that I really would like to get access to if I can. Anyone have any ideas on what is going on here? Bad disk? HFS+/APFS issue? EFI corruption? That is what I have come up with through Google searches. [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Jul 2020 07:49 PM PDT Hi! Ok, So I was having issues with my Macbook Pro 2015 retina display 13 inch where the battery died so I got the status 'Replace No', 'Battery Not Charging' and all of that. So ofc it would only work on the power adapter and if I took it out it would stop working. So ofc to save myself hundreds I bought what I needed and attempted to fix the issue myself. The first thing I did was buy a new battery. After installing the new battery and doing an SMC reset, same status, same issue, no change. I then came across this article: https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/170568/New+battery+is+not+charging+and+condition+says+replace+now It mentions that if this issue occurred the guy at the show would recommend replacing the I/O board (btw I know this is for a 2011 macbook air, But I found a guide for a 2015 retina macbook pro and followed it and did exactly what it said). So yeah surprise surprise after buying a new I/O board now and replacing that and doing an SMC reset, again same issue. I have heard that with a new battery you need to calibrate it, however, I can't do that as that requires disconnecting the power and the computer just shuts off this way so it's not an option. The battery cycle amount is currently 0 counts however the battery health reads as 100% on 'coconut battery health' I'm fast running out of ideas... and the will to live and I'd really rather save myself hundreds of points by taking it to a repair shop. So if u guys have any fixes to this issue or other suggestions of what I need to try that would be massively appreciated as I've exhausted all my options. Thanks! [link] [comments]

macOS Catalina: troubleshoot - Books speech voice is different than system voice Posted: 04 Jul 2020 11:55 AM PDT Does anyone know why my Apple Books Speech voice would be different than my system Speech voice? I have gone to System Preferences > Accessibility > Speech > System Voice, changed the voice, and restarted Apple Books, but the voice that reads text in those books is still different than the system voice. I also tried switching the Siri voice with no luck. [link] [comments]

Is there a speed difference between Catalina and Big Sur? Posted: 04 Jul 2020 03:49 PM PDT I've noticed as I've upgraded from Mojave to Catalina my 21.5in mid-2014 iMac got way more slower. System Preferences would take around 20-40 seconds to load If it is slower then I don't want to update [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Jul 2020 11:44 AM PDT Hello! I want to find an app where I can teach from my PDF (annotated with side marked notes) but when I teach, the students can only see the clean version of the PDF ( no annotation, no notes), where the goal of the app is the sync scrolling between the two version of PDF (can be used on two computers.. idk), or only show the annotation to me. So I can tell what I'm supposed to focus on and talk about but the students can't see the annotation or highlights from what I'm presenting/sharing on the screen. [link] [comments] |
