Ergonomics: any advice for keeping the top of the iPad Pro slightly below the eye level while typing?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 02:13 PM PDT

Hey there, I'm considering buying an iPad Pro with the Folio keyboard. But, although that combo seems to works well for occasional writing, from the ergonomy standpoint it looks not great for standard day work.

When the iPad is attached to the keyboard, it can be inclined to a quite comfortable angle to look at the screen, but the neck will stay bent to accommodate that position. That's the reason why I was considering buying a stand to raise the iPad so that the top side will be somehow below the eye line.

I have a couple of questions to ask for advice:

    • Can the Folio keyboard be used detached from the iPad, wirelessly, or it must touch the iPad metal connectors? I wish to avoid buying another keyboard for that.
    • Have you find other solutions to keep the iPad in a better ergonomy than the vanilla iPad physically attached to its keyboard

Note that also the new Magic keyboard for the iPad doesn't look it is solving the problem, in my opinion.

    Thanks a lot!

    Elementary Educational App Suggestions?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 10:16 AM PDT

With Schools in our area starting full virtual this year, I have purchased iPads for my kids to use as their school device. We used a much older iPad 2 at the end of last school year that worked, but was very slow and not able to be upgraded.

I am looking for educational apps for elementary aged students. There are TONS of options out there, but many that I have tried are gimmicky or poorly made. I'm hoping to find well designed apps for reading, handwriting, typing, math, science, etc. Anyone have hands on experience with any great apps for those areas? Certainly willing to pay for good apps.

iPad mini 5 Screen Pressure: Worry or no?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 02:24 PM PDT

Hello all, I recently purchased an iPad mini 5, and upon using the Apple Pencil, noticed slight discoloration on the display similar to when happens when pressing hard on a screen, but it occurs with (what feels like) not much pressure applied. My 2018 iPad 9.7 however, does not do this. I know this iPad has a laminated display where my 2018 iPad does not. I figured this may just be a side effect of the lamination to get used to and adjust accordingly, but I figure it can't hurt to ask for some secondary opinions. Thanks! iPad mini 5

Where to get iPad Air 2 folio case?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 07:10 AM PDT

My current folio case is starting to fall apart after many years. But even searching online I can't seem to find any decent replacements presumably due to its age. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Searching for a handwriting calculator notes app

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 01:17 AM PDT

Hi everyone, im about to buy an iPad for my wife and am searching for an app for her, where she can mix text and calculations, like in Soulver, but everything should be handwritten.

I've found Calculator 2, which does the handwritten calculations part but it's missing the general note taking capabilities.

So I guess it's something like Goodnotes with calculator capacities 🤷‍♂️.

I hope that someone maybe knows such an app. Thanks!

Build Quality: Why does the iPad feel so much more tankier than the iPad Pro?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 09:44 AM PDT

After test driving the regular iPad 2019 and the 11" iPad Pro, the pro feels like I have to baby it.

The Pro: If I were to drop it, the Pro feels like it would smash, or the edges might be soft enough that they would dent or chip. It feels like a well built slab of glass, but dropping it unprotected would be catastrophic to the glass screen, or denting what seems like soft aluminum. It also has the tiniest bit of flex if you apply pressure. I get paranoid putting it in a backpack; what if something pushes against it and flexes/cracks the screen? What if I put my backpack down too hard and it dents/chips the ipad pro?

Regular iPad: Feels sturdy. Hard to bend in your hands. Could probably survive a drop unprotected. The whole thing feels like one solid tablet and piece of metal, whereas the pro feels like a slab of glass. Doesn't feel like babying is needed, throwing it into a bag is a non issue.

    iPad OCD

    Posted: 25 Jul 2020 06:47 PM PDT

This is kind of a dumb post, but what is the proper iPad orientation in landscape mode? Since I use my iPad 7 naked without a case/kickstand forcing a certain orientation, I always need to have the home button to the right side of the screen. Does anyone else do this or am I just crazy?

Files – Wherefore art thou folder size?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2020 02:41 PM PDT

It drives me absolutely crazy that in Files folder size isn't displayed anywhere. Even the info panel doesn't show folder size. This is such a strange omission.

Have they changed this on iPadOS 14? https://i.imgur.com/dTHjlD5.jpg

Lightning port splitter thats good but cheaper?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2020 03:56 PM PDT

I want to get a splitter so i can charge my ipad while playing music through my lightning headphones. There's a belkin splitter on apples website but its around $40. There's some on amazon that are around $10 but I'm concerned about the quality for that price. Anyone know of a reliable and safe splitter thats cheaper than $40?
