If You Were Ever Curious About What Face ID on MacBook Would Be Like ...

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 09:21 PM PDT

All you have to do is use iPad Pro with mouse and keyboard. The experience is just amazing! I really can't wait for Apple to launch a MacBook with Face ID!

    Chrome, Yikes. (Browser suggestions)

Got my new mac the other day, been using chrome but I know it's not really suggested what's another good browser other than safari that works great with macOS. I've seen so many say chrome just kills your laptop.

Anyone have experience personally upgrading their MBP's battery/RAM?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 12:23 PM PDT

    Hi, all!

Title -- I have a 2011 MBP and have been thinking about upgrading my MBP to a newer model. Right now, my MBP serves it's purpose, I rarely have experience difficulties using it for what I need to use it for. Battery life (obviously, being almost 10 years old) is something that is not as good as it used to be.

Has anyone personally switched out their battery in their MBPs for a 3rd party manufactured battery? What were your experiences -- was your battery life noticeably improved? Also, I upgraded my memory to 8 gb a few years back and am wondering what the threshold is for people to upgrade to 16 gb.

Thanks in advance for your input. Cheers!

2020 base model MacBook Pro or wait?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 01:49 PM PDT

Deciding whether to buy a base model MacBook Pro or wait for new MacBooks to be announced.

I am going to be using it to learn swift and iOS development, plus possibly other programming languages.

Anyone else's 2015 Macbook Pro having slow wifi?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 06:06 PM PDT

I have a 2015 Macbook pro 15 inch model and lately I have been experiencing slow wifi speeds. I tried reinstalling macos, resetting smc and pram, but nothing worked.

Could this be an issue with the wifi card?

I have a few questions about the newer MBPs, and whether to wait until the next release for professional use.

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 05:43 PM PDT

My current MBP is a 2015 model, and I'm looking to upgrade to either 2020/2021 using a university discount this fall or maybe early next year.

The main questions I have is how to setup a newer MBPs work, since I don't remember how I did it 5 years back, for example, my current one came with Microsoft Office installed (Word/Excel/PPT) which I need for work, but do I really need to buy the package on a subscription basis if I want to use it on a new MBP?

Secondly, I typically use my MBP with a keyboard and mice, which is convenient since the 2015 models come with USB 2.0s on each side for that, but as the new models only have Thunderbolts, does everyone just walk around with a few adaptors? And do need to buy the $20 ones from Apple for that, or will non-OEM ones be fine for that?

Finally, I use my Mac to run a lot of niche/technical softwares, which is fine most have OSX versions. However, the manufacturer's only update them often, and I'm wondering if, when they do, whether there will be backward compatibility for Intel MBPs while ARM MBPs get developed in the future. I'm personally leaning towards an Intel MBP, but I'd also like to wait for a 14 inch MBP if they release one in Intel, does anyone know whether the 14' will come before ARM, or will the 14' only come in ARM?

    Mac Silicon

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 01:15 PM PDT

I have a mid-2012 MacBook Pro that works well, however I was considering buying a much lighter, new MacBook Air. Should I wait for a potential MacBook Air with the Silicon technology, or will I be waiting for 2 years?

Help macbook pro mid 2012 wont turn on

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 12:56 PM PDT

    Hello,

Recentley I replaced my ram in my macbook pro, (From 4 to 8 gb) Everything worked fine, until I plugged it in to charge, It said, not charging just having power to run catalina, the next week I took it to a repair company, they saw that the problem was at the charging port, (I damaged something, that why it wouldnt charge lol) They kew how to fix it, so i let them do it, when i got i back, it worked perfectley fine,

The next day i was doind a 12 hour stream, so it was doing intensive work, lots of multitasking.

The battery went from 100 to 30 in arround 3-4 hours, i didnt need it then at the moment, so the macbook went into sleep mode, at least, that what i thought. When i needed it, and hit spacebar to turn it on, it wouldnt turn on, so, i put it away to look at it the next day. I plugged it in, and saw a dimmed green light from the cable, I started to search it up, and stumbled upon a post on this forum, it said reset the SMC, so i did that, computer did go on, too the loging screen, (It was at 1%) Then i noticed that the trackpad and built in keyboard did not work, (external mice and keyboard did work though) I was to late t log in, so the macbook shut it selef down, and now it wont turn on, not even with the shift-ctrl-option way, i just wont boot.

I hope somebody can help me!

    Thanks in advance!

Brand new to MBA2020. Why does an app in my dock suddenly have a ? on it? (Didn't delete and it was working fine 12 hrs ago)

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 08:39 AM PDT

Title says it all really. I'm the only one who's used it. It's WhatsApp.

All the answers I can see online are "It must have been deleted, re-install", but I don't want to do that. Why did it happen in the first place on a Mac I've owned for 25 hours???

    Thanks for your help!

    How much RAM?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 11:53 AM PDT

Hello! I am about to purchase a 2020 MacBook Air. I have decided I'm gonna upgrade the processor to the i5, but now I'm concerned about the ram only being 8gb. I won't be doing anything that crazy, just schoolwork, PowerPoints and the occasional photo editing. It seems to me that 8gb has been the norm for quite some time and I'm afraid that it might not be enough in a few years. I'd like this computer to last a good 5-7 years so I want to make sure I get the right configuration, but also not spend unnecessary money. What do you think?

    Why did your macbook/laptop retire?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 07:11 AM PDT

I see a lot of people very worried about their computers 'overheating' over time and damaging its parts. Yet all the laptops I have had are still very much alive after >10 years but are just too slow to be useful so I have had to upgrade. Yes the battery has died but I have yet to come across someone whose reasonable quality laptop died because of spontaneous cpu / ram / gfx / motherboard from age / chronic overheating..

MacBook Air early 2015 not detecting Samsung evo plus 960 1TB

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 03:31 AM PDT

I have been trying to replace my 128 go stock ssd with a new Samsung 970 evo plus ssd. However my MacBook Air won't recognize it. I even bought an external enclosure but it still won't recognize it. I used diskutil and it doesn't show up there as well. I tried it on my friend's 2019 MBP with enclosure it shows up and I initialized it from that MBP but when I put it back on my MacBook Air it still doesn't recognize it. I am running beta version of MacOS Big Sur. Any help would be appreciated.
