Does connecting an external monitor to my MacBook Air drains its battery? Posted: 04 Jun 2020 12:15 AM PDT Hello, recently, I have bought a DVI-D to HDMI cable that I can use to connect my 2018 MacBook Air to an external monitor. Will having 2 screens drain the MacBook's battery? Or at least see some significant less battery? [link] [comments]
High Sierra Clean Install works perfectly from recovery mode but not from USB boot. Posted: 03 Jun 2020 09:59 PM PDT My USB has the complete 5.2Gb 10.13.6 file. And macbook pro is compatible with High Sierra (Mid-2010, but this has happened to me with 2012's too) Any ideas why it doesnt work from bootable? Im a tech advisor and frequenly install new SSDs or HDDs (or simply format old HDD). I always choose MacOs Extended (Journaled) as the erase format. I tried erasing volume, also disk, they are both verified and repaired correctly. Recovery Mode installs the exact same file with no problems. Meanwhile, the USB boot method always fails after several minutes installing with message: "macOS could not be installed on your computer" "An error ocurred installing macOS...'D' for Apple diagnostics" Much appreciated any help. Bootable was created with official Apple terminal command. And this does not ALWAYS happen to me, its like 1/3 of these kind of services.. random. So I'd like to be able to overcome it WITHOUT recovery mode. [link] [comments]
Spotlight type work flow for Safari? Posted: 04 Jun 2020 02:44 AM PDT Hey, I would like to launch safari tabs like I would launch apps in spotlight (using keyboard only). Basically from any app, Safari open or not, I would like to press a key binding, have a spotlight-like bar come up that behaves just like the safari address bar and once I press enter safari runs that in a new tab. Does this already exist? Any ideas how I would go about implementing this if it not? I code so i'm not averse to creating some hacky work around, I just have no idea how to go about it? Should I trimforce a crucial MX500 1TB SSD I Posted: 04 Jun 2020 01:24 AM PDT I have replaced my iMac's 8 years old spinning disk yesterday with a brand new Crucial MX500 1 TB SSD disk. MacOS, obviously, does not enable TRIM by default but I have an option to turn it on by using terminal's Crucial says this disk has trim support. But apple shows a scary warning when I try to enable trim support for that disk, showing that data loss may occur. Is that anybody out there who has enabled trim for dis Crucial MX500 family os SSD's? Is that safe to enable? [link] [comments]

Does anyone know why Apple have removed 60hz option in display preferences? Posted: 04 Jun 2020 12:53 AM PDT When I purchased my early 2015 MacBook Pro I read that it could output 4k@60hz via DisplayPort but now that seems to have changed. I recently purchased a 4k TV capable of 60hz, a HDMI 2.0 cable and an active DisplayPort to HDMI dongle only to find out you need 3rd party software such as SwitchResX to get 4k@60hz. I can confirm it works but SwitchResX seems to be causing a lot of problems with overscan. Without using a custom resolution in SwitchResX I'm limited to 1080p @ 60hz. I also tried the Display Menu app which doesn't seem to cause any weird overscan issues but again the highest resolution I can get @ 60hz is 1080p. Being limited to 1080p doesn't bother me too much but I have to set the resolution every time I restart the mac with the Display Menu app. So my question is why on earth can't I even change my display settings to 60hz on any setting below 1080p when using the normal display preferences window? Obviously the ability is there for 1080p @ 60hz but the only options I get are 24/25/30hz. I'm just really annoyed that this computer is supposed to achieve 4k@60 yet I can't achieve any resolution @ 60hz without installing apps that don't really work. [link] [comments]

unable to install 10.15.5 supplemental update... PLEASE help! Posted: 04 Jun 2020 12:25 AM PDT I tried updating from system preferences many times and it gets stuck on 2 minutes remaining for a long time and then eventually says it timed out. I even tried downloading the installer from apple and then I get an error "The installation failed. An error occurred installing the update." Restarting and updating in Safe Mode still provided the same errors. The disk space was not an issue, i have 390 GB free. Then, I contacted apple and they suggested reinstalling macOS in recovery. I tried that and got an error "An error occurred. The request timed out". Please help! [link] [comments]

Characters following quotation marks are screwy on my computer Posted: 03 Jun 2020 10:46 PM PDT if I type a quotation mark, the character following it will often come out weird. For example, a quotation mark followed by an 'e' comes out as ë. A quotation mark followed by a space removes the space Mid 2012 MB Air. Mojave. SOLVED: Changed my "input source" in keyboard preferences. In my case to "Australian" [link] [comments]
Need help finding a decent free or inexpensive download accelerator app Posted: 03 Jun 2020 09:16 PM PDT Does anyone know if there exists a decent free or cheap app that can accelerate downloads on Mac or a download manager/accelerator designed for downloading internet videos? Help please: moving files from folders Posted: 03 Jun 2020 08:40 PM PDT I've a folder which has many many sub-folders (100's) and each folder contains files, all in txt or srt format. There should be no duplicates file names in this selection Is there a way to run a command or automator workflow to extract all of the files from all of the folders and present them in a single path, effectively removing all the folders and only leaving the files? Posted: 03 Jun 2020 06:01 PM PDT Wondering if there is a quick and easy way to rename photos in iPhoto. Most of my pictures are stored in iCloud but I would like to have them with simpler names if possible without having to go through 1000s of photos and renaming them individually. Any suggestions? 10.15.5 Sporadic apps not responding/slow loading Posted: 03 Jun 2020 07:02 AM PDT MBP 16" 2019 Apologies in advance if I'm not explaining my issue clearly. About 7 - 10 days ago I started to notice that Google Chrome was VERY slow to load new tabs. So slow that I'd be prompted to kill the pages. What's really odd is sometimes this occurs when I'm opening a blank tab or viewing the page source). I initially thought this was a Google Wifi mesh system that I recently installed. But then I'd switch back to my old wifi network and the problems would still occur. I also disabled all Chrome extensions, deleted all cookies/cache/etc., tried in incognito too. Other apps that won't open or slow to respond: Apple Music, AppleTV (never tried to open until now) I reset the P-RAM, which seemed to fix EVERYTHING for about 24 hours. While I consider myself tech savvy, this issue has me totally lost. I don't know where to go for support. I've searched online and all I see are those crappy Q&A pages on Apple support. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]
How to search/filter in song view in music? Posted: 03 Jun 2020 12:25 PM PDT I really liked being able to do this in itunes. In the song view that has all the columns one can customize. I would search an artist and all songs with them would show up. I could then organize and sort them as i wanted. When you do a search now it shows the songs albums and artists. And you can click to show all, but that view has no columns and you cant edit etc. [link] [comments] |
